What really stands out in your story is Snape contemplating his own behavior toward Harry after seeing how his relatives and Umbridge had treated the boy, and Snape realizing he had been nearly as bad with his cutting remarks. Many stories have Snape dealing with other factors, but ignore his own behavior. Good focus!
