Author's Response: I always get rather worried when I read dark stuff and the writer doesn't say they're doing ok. This story did not come from a dark place in my personal life, just literally a prompt off 2 sentence horror that fit the Potter-verse well. That and a recent interest in necromancy (for the purposes of DND, I promise!). I almost went for gore on this, but ... sometimes things are best left up to imagination.
