Fun fact, an A is an acceptable, and has no more merit than an E, which is Exceeds expectations. However, potter never actually got either of those grades. He maintained a Poor average in Potions. Except when Professor Slughorn came to teach Potions. Miraculously, Potter knew how to brew a proper potion, which leads me to believe he just didn't care when it was Professor Snape.
