Reviews For Acid Reigns
I must protest the lack of an Evil!Albus tag here. I strive to avoid fanfiction that takes him out of character in such a profound manner, and the lack of such tags leads readers to feel mislead. I must say it is not done with particular grace here; the sheer idiocy and oafishness at show clashes horribly with the character. I daresay it is possible to put Dumbledore in an adversarial position without these things. A malicious Dumbledore would be much harder to get the upper hand on; certainly a child of seven wouldn't be able to spot "evil" body language through the kindly old professor veneer so easily, for example. If I knew it was this type of story, I would not be here to leave this criticism. Be that as it may, it doesn't overshadow my love for your prose. I had just been gushing to my friends about Grease & Lightning earlier today; It is with regret that I take my leave here. I'll gather up the compliments I was planning here, then. Author's Response: Well, I am sad to see you go, but I am afraid I can?t do without explaining that I did not write Albus here to be evil. He is adversarial and manipulative, yes, and is attempting to hold on to his most prized weapons of war, but this is not what I would have written for him if I imagined him to be evil. I also think that if he was a bit ham handed about his methods it is merely because he underestimates both Severus and Harry at this juncture. In any case, as for tagging, I am very much against excessive tagging and would generally prefer to opt out of such warnings. I prefer fanfiction to work like real books, where one doesn?t necessarily know what they are getting into from the dust cover alone, and I am loathe to spoil my own story in the tags. Where I have tagged things it is merely to avoid getting in trouble for leaving them out (e.g. content warnings for violence/kidnapping, all that). In any case, I do very much appreciate your thoughts on the series up until this point, and I regret that you don?t care for the continuation. I put my heart and soul into the sequel, only at the behest of my readers for I otherwise hadn?t planned on continuing, but hopefully G&L stands alone well enough on its own that the fact that you didn?t care for the sequel two chapters in doesn?t ruin it for later. It was designed to finish at four chapters, even if many readers didn?t feel we were finished yet. I loved it! I liked your characterisation of Dumbledore and how Severus and Harry both stood up to him. As a reader this really gives you a feeling for the developing relationship between these two. And I simply adored your Severus beeing so protective of Harry like sending him to the kitchen to get the milk or giving him this one side glance before he said that the Dursleys abandoned him. It's so good! Thank you :)
Good for Harry putting Dumbledore in his place. I loved the chapter, especially the tea service, reminiscent of the elf wine at the Dursleys. Thank you
So much love for this. |
