...and yet in this chapter, it seems like Severus has gone more than a little over the top. Up until this chapter, where we switched to Snape's POV, I had been pretty certain that what Snape was waiting for was cooperation, which is only understandable - that Snape isn't willing to care for someone who is in general surly and basically refuses to allow Snape to aid them.
Then you came out with the line where you say that even if Harry asks, Snape isn't certain whether he will help him or not. That doesn't really seem consistent with everything else that's gone on. If Snape isn't willing to give help to an incredibly ill child who asks him for it, he's worthless as a human being and suddenly unpredictable as a character. Now, instead of Harry coming to the realization that Snape is a responsible adult who will care for him no matter how foolishly he acts, we have the dynamic that Harry must somehow *win* Severus's affection - and that Severus's affection is quite possibly conditional.

Author's Response: yes, ouch. That would not be fun. Glad you liked it!

"He really wasn’t in the mood for this game that Potter seemed to be playing, but with nothing better to do he had no excuse to leave." it seems that Snape is the one playing the games here. Poor poor Harry. You really described the bag of mush well; I am feeling sick here just after reading about it. I love your take on Snape, unreasonable, forceful, making some less than nice choices yet not seeing anything wrong with them. Nice.
Author's Response: The bag of mush was even grossing me out, lol!
I'm happy to hear you approve of my take on Snape. As a Deatheater I'm sure he has little worry about regretting his choices. He does what he does and doesn't (or pretends to) not let it bother him. It wouldn't be as fun if he was really nice and approachable anyway. Then all that tension and mystery that I adore about him would be gone, and we would be left with someone like Mr Bean! ;)
