After Harry is caught for exploding a cauldron in 2nd year Potions, Snape insists he keep a firm hand on the boy he must secretly protect. However, he discoveres that there is more to the twelve year old than unruliness and disrespect. Similarly, Harry learns from and gains a new perspective of his professor.

What a lovely chapter. You did a good job following up on Harry's breakdown. I'm so glad he told Snape what was going on.
Author's Response: Thanks so much for reading and reviewing! Yes, Harry keeping it all inside for a moment longer would have just created unbearable tension...lol. I couldn't do that the the readers...or myself.

Can't wait for more! I love how you've got Harry laughing at Draco one moment and then pretty clearly apprehensive the next. The image of him backed against the wall, trying not to chew on his thumb was so well done I felt like I was Harry. Or Snape. There, in any case.
Cheers.
Author's Response: Oh, goodness, thank you for the review, lyra! I'm so glad you're still following the story :) Congratulations on finishing Reading the Signs. It's such a beautiful story...

I know you finished this story months ago now, but I suspect that I didn't leave nearly enough reviews as I should have.
I love this story so much. So very, very much. I just re-read it (for oh, the 3rd time) and I must beg for a sequel.
Well done!
Author's Response: Thanks, lyra :-) It means a lot that you've taken such interest in my story. I love YOUR work, so it's a huge compliment. I plan on beginning a sequel over Christmas break.
Harry and Severus struggle to come to terms with their painful history. A glimpse of an AU of HBP.

Awww. That was so sweet. I love the mush. LOVE.
Author's Response: Oh, thank you! I'm happy you liked it! I adore mush (in case you hadn't noticed!).
After the Dobby incident at the beginning of the second book, Harry runs away, and Snape kidnaps him. In an old-fashioned house with no comforts and a huge black dog, Harry finds himself at Snape's mercy as Snape plays mind games and makes Harry live through different scenarios. Though Snape seems crazy and psychotic, Harry begins to see reasons behind Snape's sporadic behavior. There is corporal punishment, but it is different from what I've written before. This is a Mean!Snape story for the most part. If you're looking for a cuddly story, go elsewhere please.

Man, Snape is so behaving is such and incredibly confusing way in this story -- I love it! It's an incredibly creative way to get to the father/son roles without the standard formula.
I particularly enjoyed how much this chapter reveals about Snape and Harry. While Snape's questions under the veritaserum make it seem like he's looking for affirmation of how good he is at being nasty ("Do you fear me?"), I think he's actually wanting to hear that Harry *doesn't* fear him, that he *does* like living there, etc.
With Harry, we learn that while the above may not be precisely true, he is more conflicted than either of them probably imagined.
This was a truly lovely story and I'm dying of curiosity to see it's ultimate resolution.
Cheers.

I can not tell you how much I love this story, and this chapter was the best yet. I have to say that I *almost* expected harry to call Snape "father" of his own accord when they were hugging, though.
Loved it to pieces.

I haven't reviewed on this fic in a long time, but I've been reading all along. Such a fantastic premise, I loved it. It was unconventional, no doubt, and Snape could be hard to take, but hell, it's *Snape* after all.
I would have loved to see some of the intervening years, but as a writer of fic myself I understand that sometimes a story just has to *end* or it will go on for 99 chapters and interest wanes. I think you picked the perfect moment, and the epilogue gave us enough to know the "Happily Ever After. (Sort of)."

Ooooo. I'm intrigued. Is Harry in the past, or the future, or some strange alternate universe?
Very well written. I'm looking forward to more!
Author's Response: Lol, I can't say, and as your second review seems to indicate...I don't really need too

Heh, it looks like some of my questions are answered -- helps to read the summary I suppose :)
But still very intriguing.
Author's Response: Gah, I have been meaning to change the summary in forever...I suppose now is as good a time as any. It seems no matter what I put in there, it gives away something I don't want it too. I am pleased you are finding it intriguing nevertheless =)
