About me:

I'm an *insatiable* bibliophile--I started scribbling fanfics in spare notebooks when various canon couldn't keep up with my too-fast reading. Then--I discovered Fanfiction, On The Internet...!!!! ::drooling happily over my keyboard:: OBOY!! I hadn't known it was called fanfiction; hadn't ever shared a word with anybody else...finally got the gumption up to post something a few years ago (on another site), and discovered there are folks who *like* my writing. Wheeeee! And even better, now I have all these un-known stories just begging to be read, too! Heh.

I'm not really into LiveJournals, or chat-type sites; I just log on enough to download fanfics to read on my bus between routes; or sometimes to post my own stuff. I drive an hour one-way each day just to drive a school bus all day long...I MUST be Crazy. ,'=}

Oh, now that's a MEAN cliffie!! ::bawls for thirty seconds:: Now we've gotta wait until the next chapter for Harry's funeral...! ::blubbering turns to snickers:: Harry's certainly a normal narrow-focused teenager! Poor Severus is gonna have an aneurysm over him...!

When Harry wakes one morning, he discovers a badly injured Snape in his living room, and tries to hide him. But Petunia discovers them and reveals a secret she has kept for thirteen years--one that will change the course of Harry's life forever, and Severus's as well. AU, pre-GOF.

Oooo, I *like* fics where Vernon gets his...! ::very large, toothy, evil dragon-grin:: This story is handled very nicely. Snape's obviously got a few years of bad habits regarding his treatment of Harry to get around, but personally witnessing what Harry's lived with was probably the single most important thing towards changing his view of the boy--especially with his own background, as Petunia told it.
Hmmm...I wonder what Snape's going to say to Dumbledore, for leaving Harry there--no matter *whose* son he was... >=] Heh. I hope the Headmaster has good insurance on his office, if Snape finds out he knew anything of the abuse!

Author's Response: And he will be getting it, trust me! And yes, witnessing the abuse for himself has changed Snape a good deal, as had the revelation that he is Harry's father.  As for Albus, God help the man if Severus finds out that he knew about what went on and did nothing is right! Can anyone say wizard posicle?

Desperate to escape his guilt and nightmares after the third task, Harry transforms into a hawk by accident and ends up breaking both wings and suffering partial memory loss. He is found by Snape, and while the professor nurses him back to health discovers the truth about Severus and who are really his friends and enemies at Hogwarts.

::sniffle:: Very well done! Having just lost two cats in the last four months (cancer, and liver failure), it got me all teary-eyed. Of course, when Professor Snape finds out the real identity of his new familiar...oooooh, boy! Flak jacket time! Where's the bomb shelter, he's gonna blow!! =]

Draco, especially, ought to catch it *right* in the teeth, somehow. Snape in full temper hissing a scathing lecture at him until the little snot wets himself in terror would be a good start... Maybe Draco should be made to scrub the Owlry down with his toothbrush? *And* assist Hagrid in caring for some Hippogriffs and such for the rest of the school year, to learn to be respectful to animals, Or Else? Crabbe and Goyle would of course have to be along for the fun; maybe it would convince them to not blindly follow Draco's "great ideas" any more. Heh!

I'm really liking this story. I hope it's not near done yet!

    -Crazy

    Author's Response:

Aww, I'm so sorry to hear that.  It's awful when a pet dies.  My cat died over four years ago and I still can't bring myself to adopt another one.  But all cats and dogs go to heaven over the Rainbow Bridge.

You're exactly right about Severus blowing a gasket when he does find out his hawk's true identity.  He will be understandably upset.

And Draco will be catching hell from Sev, have no fear and so will the other two.  Sev won't be letting them get away with anything, not in this life!

We have a long way to go yet, so I hope you'll continue reading!

Heh heh heh. If that doesn't get it through Draco's thick skull to at least not cross Snape, nothing will! There might be hope yet for Crabbe and Goyle, too, if they decide to go follow somebody who uses their brain a bit more. I can't wait to see their House's reaction...! ::snicker:: Even if they're likely to not broadcast it to the other Houses, I'm sure *somebody* will notice.

Is Dumbledore going to catch a clue at some point? The ol' geezer's about as sensitive as a *rock!* ::shakes head:: I kind of hope that when Harry's restored (and Snape's out of the Hospital Wing with a replacement gasket, or two!!) he and Snape can stay bonded, and tell Dumbledore just exactly where he can go when he tries to send Harry back to the Dursleys again...

Communication potion next chapter, eh? Ooooh, that's got possibilities! It should certainly make it interesting; whether Severus figures things out before or after Harry is restored to himself. I am *so* glad you don't post monthly or longer; the wait would just kill me!

    Author's Response:

Yes, they'll be wondering why those three are cleaning after hours and stuff, and I'm sure rumors will be floating all over, as usual.  You can see Slytherin House's reaction in my next chapter!

Well, the old man tends to look at what he wants to happen, rather than what is actually happening.  Yeah, that could happen, and probably will, since Harry is going to find out some things about his Headmaster he never knew before, as well as Severus.

being able to talk to his familiar is going to make Snape's life very interesting, to say the least.  And Sev will start to suspect before Harry comes back.

I'm glad you like my speedy updates, I too hate waiting for a story to be updated and wondering if it's been abandoned or something.

Title: Chapter 7: Hawk Speak 01 Apr 2009

::climbing back onto chair fallen from when I laughed too hard:: You made Harry groom Snape's hair!!! ::faux scandalized look, spoiled by returning hysterical laughter:: Thin-skinned as a teenager, indeed...! I loved the snarky banter; I hope they'll learn how to retain it once Harry's himself again. I think those two could terrorize even Dumbledore in five minutes or less if they got on a roll--I mean, Severus might *smile!!!* Pomphrey doesn't have enough beds for all the peope who'd pass out.

Heh heh heh...sounds like you've got Severus headed towards realizing that yes, actually, he does *so* give a darn about the Potter brat; right before he realizes that the kid's wearing feathers and sitting right on his shoulder. The question must be, is Harry going to develop enough of an understanding for how Snape's put together to interpret the explosion for what it is? (I'd imagine next chapter ought to bring home that Snape's life ain't been all rosy, and they've got a whole lot in common--even if Harry doesn't remember yet) And more importantly--will Harry keep his new Name??

Oh, it's gonna be so much fun to watch! =]

    Author's Response:

LOL! You're right.  if those two eve rmanage to get together, i think the whole school would need a Calming Draft!

I just loved the part when Harry groomed Snape, I felt it was so appropriately . . .hilarious.

And yes, Severus will eventually admit that he cares for Harry, and Harry hopefully will recall Snape's insecurities as well when Severus realizes just who he's been pouring his heart out to all those weeks.

You're right about the next chapter, though.  I'd advise you to get some Kleenex.

Nicely done! No gratuitous blow-by-blow description of impossible-to-survive torture by Voldemort, but still got the point across quite clearly--thank you! It was tastefully done.

And the opening scene with Ablus--::cracks up in hysterical laughter::

I'd imagine after this, if a restored Harry recalls clearly his time as Freedom, it won't matter if Snape goes bonkers at finding out Freedom was Harry all along--Harry's still gonna kill Voldemort, specifically for Snape. Saving a living person you care about gives a whole lot more motivation than vengeance for someone already dead who can't be hurt anymore, and I don't think Harry had any least idea before what exactly Snape goes through in his spying. He didn't want to think about it. And if Snape did it all for Harry's Mum--Harry's a forgiving sort; he can put himself in somebody else's shoes and empathize with their choices, whether he agrees with them or not, even if he sometimes needs a jump-start to do it for folks he's developed a prejudice against. Snape's "protective coloring" is awfully hard to see through, even for adults.

And Harry is *so* gonna be pissed off at Albus Dumbledore when he's human again!! That is a scene I'm *really* looking forward to reading!

...I really, *really* hope you continue writing more stories when this one is finished. ::big sad pleading puppy dog eyes::

    Author's Response:

Good, I don't like protracted torture scenes, I mean I have a good enough imagination to supply what went on without having it graphically spelled out.  The same with sex scenes.  You're right about Harry now having a more personal reason to kill Voldemort now that he sees exactly what Severus does for their side on a regular basis.  I think that part of Severus's duties is sort of overlooked by a lot of people, it's always well Snape went to spy on Voldemort, but what does that really MEAN? Well, basically it means going through hell, having to pretend to enjoy killing and torture and all those other awful things and sometimes having it done to you as well.  I often wonder how those CIA and FBI guys do it when they work undercover for counter terrorisn, which is much like what Severus does.  How much copunseling do THEY need when they finally come home? And are they appreciate for doing a job most people would never be able to?

You're right about Harry being a forgiving person, and once he recalls everything, he will understand Severus much better and know that his initial reaction might not be what he actually feels, but a cover, as will his own.

And yes, he really is going to have words with the Headmaster, LOL!

You mean maybe a sequel to this one?

    SEQUEL! SEQUEL! SEQUEL! SE--
A-hem. ::coughs to clear throat:: Where was I...? Oh, yeah--next review. ::grumbles:: Ya got me too excited there! Do you know, I've never reviewed so many chapters of a single story before?

I like Poppy! I can just imagine how she must have let Dumbledore have it when she informed him of Snape's condition. Heh--I'd bet Fawkes bailed on him and went to hide out with the owls! The gargoyles guarding his office probably scramming along with the bird. ::snicker:: I liked the affirmation of Snape's bonds with Hagrid, Poppy, and Trixie--and Poppy's assessment of Dumbledore.

I get the feeling that Snape's next summons might be a trigger for Harry to get his memories or/and human form back. ::winces:: That, or if he's flying again, he manages to go
    *with* Snape. ::double wince::

    Author's Response:

Hmm . . .I take you want a sequel? *burst out laughing*

    Really? Wow! I'm honored. *blushes*

Uh, yeah, Fawkes knows better than to stay under fire, LOL! And she was plenty angry, so I think she roasted Dumbledore, so to speak. Good for her, since evry so often he eneds the reminder.

It could be . . .and that would be really bad for both of them.

    So glad you're enjoying this!

Freedom is flying now, check it out!

Title: Chapter 10: Freedom's Flight 05 Apr 2009
Reviewer: CrazyDragon (Signed)
Yay! Sev's finally found somebody who won't leave him. I hope it makes a difference in the looming explosion when he learns the truth about Freedom! Heh. That’s going to be *so* much fun to read !

Harry has the sense of true loyalty that his mother seemed, to me, a bit short on. (I saw many signs that she simply wasn't that good of a friend to Severus. She wasn't Gryffindor enough to decisively put an end to Marauder bullying, for one--Hermione certainly would have managed it!! And Hermione *certainly* wouldn't have started dating one of the two prats most responsible for doing it, without definitive proof *from the victim* that it had stopped! Grrr.) Harry’s learned about loyalty and its value the hard way, so it stuck. Come hell, high water or even Snape’s own exploding temper, I believe Harry will now defend him to the death--and even from Ron’s bad-mouthing. Which ought to provide some entertaining verbal fireworks, and a properly stunned look on Snape’s face if he witnesses it! Especially if it’s in the Great Hall, during dinner--with the whole school watching! ::snicker:: That would certainly set Albus to twinkling at super-nova brightness!

Hmmm...Albus is going to be rather put out to realize that Sev's familiar, who's been so...antagonistic to him, was really *Harry* all along, isn't he. I just hope he hasn't really been aware of the Dursleys' treatment of Harry. It seems like you've set him up more as the willfully blind but good at heart type, doing what he feels he has to, and desperate to not think about the "little" consequences. The eternal optimist, who can’t understand that sometimes their own family can hurt a child worse than anyone else--sometimes even physically... Personally, I tend to prefer that treatment of the character, as opposed to the evil/manipulative type of Headmaster who arranges for all the bad stuff to happen to Harry, and even Snape, in an effort to shape people as he needs. Though when done well, that can be interesting, too.

I like learning about things in a story, too, as you’re teaching us with falconry. It’s not gratuitous, thrown-in filler; it’s necessary to explain Snape and Freedom’s process of bonding. ::hunkers down to wait eagerly for the next chapter::

    Author's Response:

It will, believe me, as soon as Sev calms down enough to think rationally, that is.

Harry does, and I agree, in canon, Lily dumps Severus awful quick for being his best friend, surely she should understand that he was embarrassed and said something he didn;t mean, and yet when he comes to apologize, all she does is rag on him about the "new crowd" he's hanging out with.  Well, what about the bullies she starts to hang out with? You're right about Hermione, she would have beaten up all the Marauders and stuck by her friend, so maybe Severus would see that he still had someone who cared about him and didn't need Lucius's lackeys to feel wanted.

Harry will defend Sev to the death, as soon as he gets over the shock of relaizing who's care he has been in and how good it was.  And there will be a scene where Harry and Ron go at it once Harry is restored to himself.  And in public too! can't wait to write that part!

Yes, Albus has been willfully blind to what harry endured at the Dursleys, he didn't know what went on.  But there is something else dark in the Headmaster's past that will shock you, you'll see once we get up to that part.  Dumbledore made a very big mistake and it's going to come back to haunt him in more ways than one.

I'm glad you enjoy my little lessons on falconry, and you're right, knowing that is necessary to explain Freedom and Severus's bond.

    The next chapter is up!

Title: Chapter 11: Hawk For Dinner 08 Apr 2009

Oooooh, I'll never look at strawberries the same way again! ::snicker:: Ummy certainly had that coming, though. Too bad Freedom couldn't do a fly-by while she was standing on the Astronomy Tower...::deep, mock-disappointed sigh:: He sure livened up that staff meeting, though!! =]

Nice way to slip in a foreshadowing prophecy, there. Two hawks...either Snape's going to go animagus, or maybe it's referring to his hawk-like soul...food for thought! Gotta love prophecy--it's so ambiguous, until hindsight renders it "perfectly" clear. Though it sure seems Snape and Harry together are needed to off ol' moldy-shorts--to "teach death to die".

Hm. Methinks Draco's gonna get in hawk-trouble again. Is Crabbe scheduled for rehabilitation? Ooo! OOOo! I know! Minerva can convince *Vincent Crabbe* to become Snape's new apprentice!! ::falls over laughing:: The kid might be dens--er, stubborn enough to stick with it, if Snape "saves" him from his old man's displeasure; and he'd certainly drive Snape batty within two weeks!! ::snickers::

I can't wait for Freedom to start mentioning his returning memories to Snape. Countdown begins! ::making sure my blast shelter is ready to dive into::

    Author's Response:

I know . . .but we wouldn't Harry arrested for murder . . .though it could just look like a slip and fall. *snicker*

    He did and then some!

Yup, that's the beauty of prophecy, it never means what you think it does . . .until it happens.  And I would say, yes, both of them are needed to kill off Voldy.

Great idea.  Poor Sev would definitely be insane, but you're right, Crabbe would be grateful if Sev saved him from Dad's wrath.

    Yes, the countdown is coming! 10 . . .9 . . .8 . . .

::bouncing excitedly in chair:: Goody-goody-goody! Another chapter!! ::manic grin:: 'Scuse the super-hyperness; too much coffee, not enough chocolate, and Spring Fever in the kids on my bus... I had numerous flying arms narrowly missing, great imitations of ADHD behavior, and one punching this afternoon--all *BEFORE* I even finished *loading* my elementary kids for the trip home! (I will not mention my high schoolers. Let's just say I was channeling Severus at his worst within ten minutes of leaving school...::sweat-drop::)

Poor Freedom. He's getting a third-person-view of his former life as Harry, and being forced to acknowledge some things he'd never considered about himself before. Heh--I have a feeling it's going to take some doing to get him to want to go back to being human-Harry! I can't wait to read what he learns from Ron, Hermione and Hagrid! (Not to mention Dumbledore's nastiness!)

    Author's Response:

I hear you! As a former educator myself, I KNOW how fast those kids can push buttons.  That's why I've always sympathized with Severus . . .anyone who's taught kids of any age . . .or dealt with the public in retail (like me) knows there are days when you just want to strangle someone or beat your head in against a wall!

Yes, he is, and it's not at all like he imagined it would be.  It will, especially since some of his former life was so terrible and he doesn' t know if he could bear going back to it and if anyone will protect him this time around.

he'll be learning a few unexpected things and Dumbledore will be dealt with in two chapter, I haven't forgotten about him!  A reckoning is coming.
