About me:

Hi, everyone.  I'm a long-time HP fan, but new to reading and writing HP fanfics.  Of course Harry and Severus are favorites, but I really like almost all the characters.

I'm a preschool teacher, and happily married with two children who also love HP.  Other things to know about me?  Hmm, I love horseback riding, reading, and spending time with my family and friends.  I love coming to talk with other fans on the internet, and I love reading fanfics.

Severus Snape and Harry Potter think that they know everything about each other. However, when Headmaster Dumbledore persuades his Potions Master to give duelling lessons to the youngest Triwizard Champion, events unfurl which will change both their lives forever. 2010 Challenge Fest entry. Great chapter! Severus could be a really good teacher, if he could get over his petty vindictive attitude, that is. I liked the reasoning behind his clothes and the book is a nice touch. Hopefully he and Harry can learn to get along better soon.

Author's Response: Thanks :) Yes, Severus' problem really is his attitude but, appeasing Voldemort's spies aside, it's a bit of a vicious circle; if the children treat him with disrespect/disobedience, he'll terrorise them and, of course, certain children will respond in kind. I'm glad you like the reasoning behind his clothes; it's always struck me that his close-fitting 'film' outfit is perfect for duelling.

Oh, no! Just when things were going so well, too! It's certainly a bad situation. I do feel so sorry for Severus. He made a dreadful mistake, more than one actually, in choosing to follow Voldemort and in telling him the prophecy. But no one feels more anguish over his past than he does, and he has done everything possible to atone for it.

But on the other hand, one can hardly blame Harry for being upset and angry. He has always grieved for his lost parents and everything that he has suffered, from being raised by the Dursleys to being targeted by Voldemort, stems from that prophecy. I can't help but think that Harry has a right to be upset, and that Dumbledore should also recognize that.

But of course, I am really hoping that Harry and Severus can make amends and that Severus won't be lost in that corridor forever.

    Great job!

    Author's Response:

Thanks; it's a bit of a rollercoaster chapter, isn't it. I think the reason that Dumbledore was so stern was that, although he knew Harry had a right to be angry, he did not want Harry to take that anger out on Severus because striking someone's achilles heel tends to have disasterous results. (Of course, at this point, Dumbledore did not know that Harry had already verbally attacked Severus) I'm glad I managed to get over both sides of the story, however; I didn't want either character to be percieved as being in the wrong for the reasons you've mentioned

    Another wonderful chapter!

I think Harry is a little hard on himself, but it is very in character for him to feel great remorse after hurting someone. I hope he can find Severus and the two of them make amends.

Ah, Ron...well, he was certainly being an awful prat in the beginning, to even consider going to Rita Skeeter, but he doesn't deserve to be left to Voldemort's mercies! I hope Dumbledore and company can figure out how to save him.

Author's Response: Thanks ^^. I knew that this particular plot device, Ron's decision to talk to Rita Skeeter, would be controversial, which is why I spent a good few paragraphs outlining his state of mind and also portrayed him as giving a long line of excuses; yes, Ron does know that what he's doing is wrong but he's hurt, angry and resentful. However, as you say, he doesn't deserve to be left with Voldemort.

It's always so interesting to see how you come up with the phrases and words that snakes and parselmouths use. Really cool and inventive!

I'm not so sure about Myrriden here though. Yeah, Harry hurt Severus and perhaps he shouldn't have, but I still think he had valid reason to be upset. It was just a bad situation all around, and it's too bad that Severus and Harry met right after Harry had learned the news. It would have been better if Harry had had some time to think it through, perhaps talk with Dumbledore, before he and Severus came face to face. Unfortunately for them both, that's not what happened.

As for the rest of their history, Severus is more to blame for that than Harry, I think. He mocked and humiliated Harry from the very beginning, long before Harry had done anything to him. It's really no wonder that Harry disliked someone who was blatantly cruel and emotionally abusive to him, for no reason that he could see. Harry did not always behave well with Severus, certainly, but Severus is the one who began their enmity and as the adult and a professor, I can't help but place the blame on him.

But I do feel badly for his pain. Severus is definitely hurting. Underneath his collected exterior, he's a mass of raw pain and insecurity. He's done all that he can to atone for the past, but he needs to forgive himself. Hopefully, Harry can help him to do this. I think if Harry forgives him, that that would mean a great deal to Severus.

    Looking forward to more!

    Author's Response:

Thanks for the review. Yes, as an adult and a teacher, Severus should not have allowed Harry's physical resemblance to James to prejudice him against the child and, even if Harry had been a carbon copy of his father, Severus should have reacted proportionately. However, as you say, Severus did begin and perpetuate their enemity and, as the adult, he must be held almost entirely responsible.

However, when I was crafting the character of Myrridin, I did not want to make the man a saint. This, of course, led to a quandary; what possible flaw could I give to a man who was brave. selfless, benevolent and strong enough to martyr himself? The answer was to make the ancient Headmaster a man who, in Dumbledore's words, 'had every virtue save compassion for the mistakes of others'. Moreover, as Myrridin is a guardian, he has a duty to protect his charges and, as Severus is, quite frankly, an emotionally immature, passionate and vulnerable man, Myrridin will not release him unless he knows, for certain, that Harry is mature enough to understand. Therefore, Myrridin charges Harry with his mistakes and does not allow extenuating circumstances, forcing the teenager to take full responsibility for his own actions. Of course this is unkind and unfair- as Harry and Dumbledore both comment- but a. I did not want to make Myrridin 2D, b. his fierce, unyielding and subtle nature make him a great guardian and c. there's a certain charm to giving Harry, whose challenges, thus far, have been suited to a Gryffindor, a task which relies on patience, guile and planning, all typically Slytherin skills!

Oh, really great chapter again! So Severus and Harry are making amends and Severus is back. Thankfully Ron is safe; just hope Sev is too!

Author's Response: Thanks ^^ I'm glad you liked it :)

AU GoF. Fake-Moody kidnapped Harry before the first task. Now Voldemort is dead, Harry and Hermione are the only ones who know how he died, and the Death Eater Severus Snape has vanished without a trace. 2010 Challenge Fest entry. Response to Student Snape by Foolish Wishmaker.

A great chapter, Bil! I'm glad you updated again. The bond between Harry and Hermione is so real...they are everything to each other, but of course that can have a downside too. They are both so wounded that it's bound to cause trouble from time to time, but of course they could never stay angry for long.

I like how Erasmus is slowly coming around, especially the part with Crookshanks.

And the flashbacks are haunting, so tense and so painful. Yet I can't wait to find out what happened, how they escaped and how Voldemort died.

I'm looking forward to the next chapter!

A beautiful chapter, so well-written, but painful; the emotions are so raw. I'm so glad that Hermione figured out Severus' identity (and that Minerva helped as much as she could). Erasmus needed to know, I think, before he can fully heal.

Hermione is right about Dumbledore...he does love, but his great flaw of always trying to manage everyone, disregarding their own feelings, is so difficult and hurtful for those who are affected.

The flashbacks have been hard to read...I hate suffering...but finally, a sign of hope in it all. I can't wait to read the rest, though I will miss this story once it's finished!

    Looking forward to more!

When Severus Snape is left in charge of Hogwarts over the Christmas break, he is less than pleased to discover Harry will be one of his charges. Events force him to face that Mr. Potter may not be quite what he has assumed all these years.

I'm so glad you're posting this here too. It's ironic...I've just been reviewing your story on FF.N, but I'll review here too.

I have to admit that I've been a bad reader...I've really loved this story for some time, but just haven't gotten around to reviewing before now. I'm really sorry about that. I usually do try to review stories that I enjoy, but it's been a busy summer.

Anyway, I'll have to make up for that. I love your characters, the insight into Severus and Harry, and your Hufflepuffs, too. I like that Severus has that strong protective streak and a good heart underneath his stern exterior. I like how Harry is strong, despite his vulnerabilities, and that you have made him a conscientious (sp?) student. I like how Severus came to see and accept that he was wrong about Harry and is taking such good care of him.

It's a wonderful beginning to a wonderful story!

Oh, I'm so glad that Severus has found out about the blood quill and that he is being so protective. I would have really liked to have seen that happen in canon.

Thankfully Harry is starting to heal and hopefully, a new and better relationship with Severus has begun. It was nice of Severus to let Harry know that his essay was good and also how to improve it. He really is acknowledging that Harry is different from what he had thought.

And loved that Severus wanted post-its!

Oh, it's really good to see Harry and Severus getting to know one another. I love a gentle protective Snape, and I'm really enjoying yours!
