When Harry finds an injured Snape on his doorstep and must hide him from the Dursleys, he has no idea that this very, very bad day will be the start of something good.

Harry and Snape are thrown together by annoying relatives, a series of strange dreams, and Voldemort's latest hunt for Harry, but their greatest challenge may well be surviving each other. This will be a long summer unless the two can find a way to work together. A slow-burn enemy-to-mentor story.

Alternate 6th summer (and part of the school year): post-OotP; ignores HBP and DH.

"It requires a certain level of trust between teacher and student, a level of trust which I insisted to the headmaster innumerable times last year that you and I do not possess. Could never possess, as a matter of fact."

AWESOME. Although I admit that they don't trust each other, I think that maybe Snape is in the best position out of all the adults Harry knows because firstly, Harry knows (or thinks XD) that Snape doesn't give a damn about him, and is probably a little bit more open around him than anyone else. Purely because there aren't really any consequences to telling someone who hates you that you have bad dreams, or whatever, and also because that person is less inclined to act anything other than professional (or, you know, a step down from professional, whatever you call that) towards you, so there isn't any weird emotional baggage.

Um, yeah. The point of that was that I luff XD Seriously.

ALSO I really like how Harry is like this perfect mix of bad communication, stubborness, dry humour and general teenage-ness. "And there had better not be any singing." Le sigh. So perfect XD I love it when Harry still comes across as funny and like a normal teenager. I can't tell you how many stories I've read where it's been like, My name is Harry Potter. I live on the planet ANGST, in the town of ANGSTville, and I go to ANGSTwarts school of ANGSTardry and ANGSTcraft. Oh yeah. I'm totally ANGSTY and not fun :C

Also your Snapey ... so perfect. I luff XD If I didn't think he'd totally hex me into next week I'd give him a big fat hug. You get a million points, Snapey, because Kirby Lane has written you awesomely. And you are totally made of something more awesome than awesome (actually, that applies to both of you - Snapey and Kirby Lane XD)

    XD

    Author's Response:

I agree with your analysis of Snape's ability to be what Harry needs. Well thought out!

I laughed when I read your ANGSTastic summary of those ANGST-overload stories! ;)  (Not to bash them - I admire every writer who takes the time to put their stories into words. It's the only way one can learn to grow as a writer, after all.)  I do try to put some lightness into my story, because not only does it make it fun to write, but I don't want to ever delve so far into angst, despair, what have you, that humor can never be found again.  After all, the world may not be easy all the time, but it certainly doesn't have to always be taken drastically serious, either.  :)

And thank you for the awesome awesomeness radiating from you!

When Harry appears at the Welcoming Feast wearing a glamor only Snape notices, Snape decides to find out what the glamor is hiding. His investigation leads to a number of shocking revelations---both about The Boy Who Lived, and about Snape's understanding of himself. Sixth year AU.

Wow. This is like ... REALLY good. Go Snape XD. He and Harry are very IC, which is awesome, and also I really like how this story is written in present tense, which really grabs my attention. Wow XD

Great chapter! The only thing I don't really get is how Harry managed to get on the Hogwarts Express without the glamour, since he can't use magic outside of school and there are old bruises that have been covered up by the new ones. Or maybe the old ones are pretty faded, and he's gotten the new ones like right before he goes to Hogwarts?

Ah, what the hell, this is a great story

"I know what a car is, Potter, I am a wizard, not a troglodyte."

I just want you to know that that is probably the most perfect sentence I have ever read.

If there is one thing that Severus Snape definately can do, it is introduce a fangirl to a whole plethora of new vocabulary XD (and it inspires me to write long words, lol). You rock!

Yay, really good. I like how you've portrayed Dumbledore as a concerned old man/grandfather figure rather than the meddling old fool that a lot of authors seem to favour. Plus, the characterisation and details of the different relationships between Harry, Snape and Dumbledore is really quite something.

The relationship between Severus and Dumbledore is so nicely detailed! I luff them XD

I knew Dumbledore had it in him to to make threats XD. And Snape! My new favourite character (well, not exactly a new favourite - more like a long-standing favourite that I am currently falling right back in love with XD)

Oooh, cliffhanger. I know people hate cliffhangers, but I love them (even though the next chapter is like one click away, but whatever). I love how Snape is all like I'm-trying-to-pretend-I-hate-you-and-keep-my-reputation-intact-even-though-I-don't-really-hate-you-any-more-and-I'm-having-serious-doubts-about-whether-or-not-I've-ever-really-hated-you. Yeah. That was a really long run-on sentence, but it's about 3 o'clock in the morning here and I'm determined to finish reviewing this story XD

Author's Response: You are an absolute gem :-) I love you for reviewing every chapter. And your run-on sentence is about the best summary I've seen yet of Snape's feelings for Harry in my story, so don't apologize for it. :)

Wow, fantastic ending! Though I was surprised that it was in Harry's POV (surprised but definately pleased

Arg stupid idiot of a thing cut off my review - anyway I just wanted to mention that I am dying to know what Snape's reaction is (because I just know he was waiting anxiously beside Harry's bed the entire time he was out - or maybe that's just the fangirl in me XD) and hopefully I'll read about it at some point in the sequel, except I'll save it for when I've had a decent sleep and an injection of caffeine XD

You really are a very fantastic writer and I can't wait to read more.
