Author's Response: I think Snape sees a little of himself in Harry, which is why he's not so bad at anticipating Harry's needs, like you say. And yeah, Dumbledore has good intentions, but doesn't always see the other side. Sequel to A Time and Place to Grow - After spending a summer with Snape, Harry begins his sixth year at Hogwarts. But Snape is keeping an eye and a firm hand on him, and a new teacher, split loyalties and a looming fight with the Dark Lord await Harry.

When Harry finds an injured Snape on his doorstep and must hide him from the Dursleys, he has no idea that this very, very bad day will be the start of something good.
Harry and Snape are thrown together by annoying relatives, a series of strange dreams, and Voldemort's latest hunt for Harry, but their greatest challenge may well be surviving each other. This will be a long summer unless the two can find a way to work together. A slow-burn enemy-to-mentor story. Alternate 6th summer (and part of the school year): post-OotP; ignores HBP and DH. I'm glad something has finally reached Harry, as he was beginning to get on my nerves, as canon Harry tends to do. It is sad though that it had to happen to such a sweet person. Your Snape is wonderfully portrayed. I would love to see the two of them start to get closer. The mirror episode was perfect and I expected Harry to soften more, but he is being especially stubborn and doesn't seem to be trying very hard. If I were Snape, I would be concerned about the future of the wizarding world about now also. While your Harry makes sense, one still needs to believe that this young man can save everyone...with this mentor. I believe in the mentor that you've portrayed, I trust in you to make me believe in the savior given the great job you've done thus far! Looking forward to more! Arwen Author's Response: I am so happy you discovered and like my story! I make no apologies for Harry - he'll have to do so himself. ;) As much as I don't want you to get too frustrated with Harry, I hope you'll excuse me for being kind of glad that you are. See, when I started this fic, I knew right off that I didn't want him to have everything together. He is smart, empathetic, and has great potential for power. BUT he's a kid, with all the immaturity, stubborness, impulsiveness that implies. My purpose for portraying him as such (other than it simply being realistic of someone his age) is this: If Harry had it all together...if you could already see the perfect savior of the wizarding world in his 16-year old self... What would he need Snape for? Snape and Harry are locked in the Room of Requirement by Dumbledore. Harry's magic works, and Snape's doesn't. Will they kill each other? So, Harry is truly Gryffindor, with a strong smattering of the Slytherin; Snape shows how noble the true Slytherin can be, and Dumbledore plays with people's lives like they are pieces in a Wizard's Chess game. Great story telling!
The summer after 5th year, Death Eaters find Harry abandoned in the Dursley house and bring him to Voldemort. Will one particular Death Eater give up his position and his hate to save his enemy's child? Eventual Snape mentors Harry fic.
