- I can see some of the broken bits of Draco being put together with each explanation that Hermione gives him as well as her acceptance of what he explains to her. Also, I like how the three different forms of apology not only highlight the differences in Harry, Hermoine and Ron but also highlight three different aspects of Draco's personality. It really emphasizes that he's a real, interesting and complicated person, just like every other character in this story.
I like the Thermos Theros potion; too bad its only fictional as I'm one of those people who get urge to go for picnics in the dead of winter and everyone thinks I'm crazy.
I love how Hermione is oblivious to Harry's stte of undress till the very end of the first scene and then how the boys all play Madame Pomfrey in supportof Hermione's picnic idea. Marauder's Redux, indeed.
It doesn't seem that much is happenig here as far as action goes but there's a lot of things happening internally. I really liked how Draco figured out a humourous and non-embrassing way to settle Ron's minor upset about Hermione giving Slytherin points. That little devilish glint in his eye tells me that his wicked sense of humour is still there despite everything. And his impression of Severus was priceless!
I assume that Severus has Draco's wand? For some reason, the idea of Dumbledore having it makes me uncomfortable. Perhaps it's because I feel that Severus is keeping it from him until he is more emotionally stble while Dumbledore, for all his kindness would be keeping it to use as a bribe to get Draco to agree to spy (even though if I recall correctly he's already agreed to it during his talk with Severus that time in the Hospital Wing). Severus' motives seem more... pure? kind?

On to the next chapter! Oh, by the way, my earlier comment about so much action taking place in a month wasn't a complaint. I know quite well how events--expecially unexpected ones--can fill a month even in the real world.

*sigh* Yes, but you'll notice it's soon the end of the school year. How did that happen in a month, I ask you?
Willing suspension of disbelief would have one say, 'well. Just because there's the Leaving Feast doesn't mean that no time passed in between...' And that was how I meant it, but it REALLY doesn't come across that way. It comes across as BAM! 1 mo = 1 yr. Because I, the author, do declare it! ;)
Does Severus have Draco's wand? I don't remember, but it is safe to say, given my view of events that Dumbledore definitely does NOT have it.

- Well, I can see why you would have felt like you'd just run a marathon emotionally while writing this (and you didn't even have an army of Persians at your heels!) after writing this chapter.
The scene between Severus and Remus was absolutely wonderful. And here we have blatant evidence for those who won't believe that Obscura is really a very unbalanced double-edged sword. Hmmm. Peter, Remus, and Lily still being Sev's friends... Oh, my muse is humming now. Maybe she'll actually consider letting write a complete story based on that idea... one where Sev till ends up a spy...
You're not the only person to get into the spirit of your stories so emphatically. I do it, too. The last time wasn't an HP fic but an LOTR fic that I'm still trying to complete.
As far as what really happened here goes, I'm not sure. The comparison of the Obscura to a tumor brings back that double-edged sword metaphor again... this time with a slightly more positive spin on the results. You know, I really like the ambiguity you've given this spell. It is a wonderful example of how despite intent, the use of any spell (even one as "innocent" as Wingardium Leviosa") can have positive and negative consequences--both intended and not.
I really admire Severus for having the nerve to Revealeo his Obscuras. He's held some of them for so long that it's probably more like doing major surgery without anesthesia than ripping off a scab from form a cut. Like Harry told his son in the epilogue to Book 7, Severus is definitely "the bravest man I ever knew".
I have no problem with you not writing the scenes you mention in your author's note. As you said, they would just be filler and wouldn't move the story along with the same emotional intensity.

- I know there are 8 chapters left but this has to be one of the best, most intense and emotionally ravaging Harry-Draco climaxes of any story I've ever read. I think the thing that makes it work is that it doesn't ignore the dark emotions and connections that make up personal relationships. A a real friendship takes even the things that are, shall we say, less than stellar into account. All the petty (and not so petty) jealousies, dislikes, and non-altruisitic feelings and actions as well as all the good stuff. If Harry had been able to hold back his horror at the Dark Mark from the link Draco would have felt it and it would not have been good. I think that the spell formalizing the life debt would have probably punished him and the harm to Draco would have been irrepairable. I know things aren't all sunshine and roses now (far from it) but Harry's honesty about EVERYTHING probably made it easier for Draco to let go and reelase what he needed to as well. The wound in the relationship is still there but it looks like the bleeding has stopped and healing has a chance tobegin.
Now I am worried about what happened ot Narcissa. Draco had said that he wished that he could have been a Gryffindor and tried saving his mother. Did he mean saving her from having to take the Mark? Or saving her life? I have a bad feeling that it is the latter (but I might be wrong--you've surprised me with things throughout this fic and I may be reading subtet that isn't there). I suspect that Draco still has to come to terms with his father's death, despite his intimation that he had no respect for Lucius' cowardice in taking a day to have the guts to turn an effective Killing Curse on himself. Given that it seems that he had emulated his father in looks and behaviours from the time we met him at age 11 in Madam Malkin's, his actual feelings concerning Lucius now can't be anything but complex and confusing.
No, Draco's problems are far from over, this breakdown really only releases those feelings about the part of his life that are connected to Harry in some way. He still has a lot of other issues to bring out of the vault before he has any right be called healed.
Whew! I think my review might rival one of your chapters for length!

Draco is still pretty messed up, but at the same time he's been through so much it's hard to see anything fazing him after this. I see him now as the type of character who can face any challenge with confidence.
Narcissa is dealt with more in Geas of Gryffindor than here.

I really, really liked the way you developed this chapter. So many stories make Ron a 2 dimensional bottomless pit oblivious to anything but the obvious joke. But you have given us the REAL Ron, who's flaws ate in their own way assets. Wonderful character development and I salute you.

- I just want to hug Draco and make everything all better for him right now. Of course, I know he'd probably immediately hex me.
And Severus is wonderful in the way he handles this, regardless of his sometimes less than stellar personal skills.
There are so many ways that this could have been written and I think you worked out the best possible way to do it. When Draco said the Deatheaters and Voldemort were waiting at the Manor I shivered with dread. When he said what he did about wishing he was a Gryffindor so that he could think of some way to keep his mother from dying, I had to go get the Kleenex. I have to say that I'm glad that the reason Narcissa had come to get him from Hogwarts was was due to Lucius being scheduled to be Kissed instead of her insisting that he be Marked.
Oh, the heck with it! I'm going to give Draco a hug anyway!

- Well, you said we were down teh Rabbit Hole and I guess we are still free-falling or maybe its a ride in Gringott's cart's . All I know is that I am breathless and can't wait to read on.
I aqbsolutely love Ron here. Despite the jealousy issues in 4th year with the TriWizard Tournament, he has always been at heart a very loyal person (I figured his leaving Harry and Hermione in Book 7 was due more to the effects of the locket Horcrux than anything else). Here we are also shown the fatal flaw of the intellectual in Hermione's response to the situation. I can sort of understand Harry. He's feeling incredibly betrayed. There's a lot of betrayal going on here, actually. Draco has possibly been betrayed by his mother and forced to take the Mark, Harry is betrayed by the fact that Drao now has the Mark and despite the flowering friendship still is programmed to expect the worst from anyone in Slytherin, and Ron feels betrayed by both Harry and Hermione for their apparent disloyalty. Wow!
I've promised myself to check out your story recs once I've finished reading this story and your sequel. Everything you've mentioned sounds incredibly intriguing.

- Oh, no! I admit that I suspected that was what was going on with Draco. The only question I have is whether or not he willingly received the Dark Mark or not. Given his parents (and even though or maybe even because Lucius is in Azkaban) it could be that he was imperiused to ensure he would tke the Mark now so that he could no longer be contminated by Harry and the other "Muggle-lovers". I suppose I'll have to wait and see. Right now I want to make sure they both survive the fall.
Though I wonder is Draco unconscious because he really wasn't in any real physical shape to play Quidditch or is he still attached to Harry through the Imperius connection. The massive hurt that Harry is experiencing could easily be strong enough to transmit through the link and knock Draco out.
I'm hanging on to my hat, this ride looks like its gong to get even MORE exciting!

I could feel Harry's, Ron's and Hermione's friendship really solidify as he finally told them his secret.
I'm glad to see that there is a solution for the Quidditch problem despite Harry's impulsive decision to Re-Sort himself.
I just realized how short a period of time has passed in this story, since this is the first full moon since the one on September 1st, it's barely the last week of Septemeber! Goodness there's been lots going on in only one month!

- Ah, yes! The first class!
I really liked how Harry handled the First Years, particularly by giving points to the student and not their House. And I was rolling on the floor laughing (well, figuratively anyway--I don't want to wreck my laptop) at his consternation with the 3rd, 4th and 5th year girls. I'm sure he was expecting some trouble with the upper years but not that!
The scene between him and Severus was perfect. I can't think of anything that needs to be added or changed. It delighted me to see them interacting in this manner. I think My favourite line was Sev's "Of course I could" in the matter of making hte potions taste better.
Bravo once more.

heh heh! Of course any students would love to make time with the famous Harry Potter, and how better but to angle for a detention. Then, when you and HP are all alone, and he's very stern and you're oh-so-penitent... yeah, right, but I could imagine the average schoolgirl spinning an epic romance from that alone.
Glad you liked the Severus-Harry interaction; those scenes were some of the most fun ones to write.

- Oh, my! What a chapter!
I really liked the way Harry and Snape were bantering when he went up to sit in Lupin's chair.
However, I think that re-making the Sorting Hat was not a good idea, though Harry's case of being Slythindor may have turned what could have turned out disastrous into something helpful (at least to some people).
And what is Harry being Sorted into Slytherin going to do in regards to the Gryffindor-Slytherin Quidditch match? If Harry is in Slytherin for a week and the game is in 2 days... oh, this is going to be interesting!

I think remaking the Hat was a terrible idea. But I also think it's hard for some people to let go of what they consider tradition. After becoming a teacher myself (after having written this story!) I can clearly see members of the community saying that they just can't *imagine* Hogwarts without its Houses, and hinting that they would stop supporting the school if the Hat were not re-made. Slytherin parents would demand to know how they could be sure their child were associating with the 'right' people, Ravenclaws would ask pointed questions about the right kind of study environment, and Gryffindors would make dark comments about exposing their children to Dark Arts practitioners in training. DDore probably wants to keep his eye on Slytherins, himself. I see this as a wrong decision, but I understand how he could make it without being Made of Evil.
