A near tragedy and a shocking discovery lead two bitter enemies to much soul searching and eventual acceptance of each other. Much angst along the way though. Some Ginny and Harry.

This was a good chapter. Interesting to see Snape's affection and concern for his son continue to grow. I could understand his concern about Harry and Ginny's relationship. I could also understand why he acted so irritated. However, I was disappointed in Harry's anger and rudeness towards Snape. I would have hoped that his growing happiness ast having a father would be helping him to control his temper. I was surprised that, once he'd recovered his equilibrium, that he did not apologize to Severus. I guess you could say that shows his growing ease with Snape as a father, but I still found it disappointing. I expect more of Harry. Intresting too that Snape did not insist upon an apology. I think he would have a few weeks ago. At the very least, it would have escalated into a real argument. Author's Response: Thank you for your review and I do appreciate the fact that you do continue to read, despite the overlong time between updates. I have to admit that this story was updated on fanfic on the 1st April. I forgot to update over here and that is partly due to the fact that I don't get a very good response over here. But then I remembered to update and I reaalise that there are readers over here who do follow the story and it does not matter that there really are so few. They appreciate the story as much. I will be updating from now on at the same time as I do over at fanfic. I see where you are coming from with regards to Harry. And perhaps he should have apologised but as Sev and Harry were getting on so well afterwards, he didn't think about it. He would have thought about it if things had escalated because Harry gets upset when he thinks his father is really upset with him. Also, Severus was not entirely upset about HArry and Ginny kissing...he was already in a foul mood because of his worries about the next day. So, he wasn't being entirely fair either. He is worried about how far Ginny and HArry have gone, but their kiss of the moment was not really the problem, it was the catalyst to set him off. Harry explained that he ahd been interacting with Hermione and Ron just before Severus arrived. But you can be sure the two teens will be more circumspect in future. The two wizards are certainly advancing nicely with their relationship and they are both learning as they go. Don't forget that HArry is not used to being chastised because someone cares for him and wants him to learn, rather than being chastised just for breathing! Lesley~ A duel with Draco leads to drastic and permanent consequences for both Harry and Severus.

Poor Harry. Author's Response: Thank you! Poor Harry, indeed. The next few weeks will be pretty rough on him, poor kid.
Good story. Author's Response: Thank you! Glad you approve of Harry. I agree about him...he doesn't want to that spell to act against him, for sure, and it's a little different with Severus, too, now that he knows Severus has all the power and there really isn't much Harry could do to protect himself. You're right about Severus...right now, he's entirely too focused on having his own life upset to be terribly concerned about Harry...but he'll get there.
I do wonder how Harry will handle Snape's apology. How quickly will he be willing to accept a new Snape? I would imagine he will probably verbally accept it, but I would think it will take a long time for him to truly accept that the new Snape can really be trusted. Author's Response: Thank you! I think you're right about how Harry will handle the apology and Severus' apparent change of heart. He's too wily to openly deny Severus' apology, but I don't think he'll take the words at face value, either...I mean, this is Snape, here, after all! Severus will have to earn Harry's trust.
Harry's thoughts are pretty dark, though, and he obviously still distrusts Snape and is very cautious with him. You are writing this very well. I'm glad that you're going to make your characters work for their future relationship. Please keep updating! Thanks. Author's Response: Thank you! Yes, Harry is still pretty distrustful (and who can blame him, really?) and it will take a while before they become close. Thank you for reading!
Harry is definitely cowed, but it is beieveable that he would be in this situation. Good job with this story. Author's Response: Thank you! Yes, Severus has accepted that he was wrong about Harry and he really does want to get to know him better. He really is reaching out to Harry as best he knows how. Glad you think Harry is believable here. I know he is a bit meek, but so much has happened to him lately, and he really is severely depressed, so I hoped it would make sense. Thanks again!
However, I do think that your Severus is changing much much too quickly. I understand that he feels somewhat guilty about the incident in his potions lab and about accusing Harry unjustly about the diary, but that doesn't give us enough reason why Severus would be already starting to care about Harry. Guilt (in my opinion anyway) doesn't create warm feelings. Severus needs to get to know and understand Harry in order to start to care for him. That said, I do think your story is an interesting one that gives the reader lots to think about. Do please keep writing. Author's Response: Thank you! I think the slavery spell, plus feeling responsible for Sirius' death has had a big effect on Harry's personality, but as I said earlier I also tend to see Harry as being more humble and quiet than some people see him. I don't know about Severus. This part of the story is probably the most difficult for me. I think it's tricky trying to write this stage of the relationship where they're not enemies, but are not completely close and comfortable around one another. I don't know; maybe Severus is changing too quickly, but I've also had reviewers say that this part is dragging, too, and that Harry and Severus seem to be stuck. What's that saying about 'you can't please everybody', lol? I just have to do the best I can, but I certainly do plan to keep writing!
Harry is still not willing to trust, but that is very natural. Good chapter. Author's Response: Thank you! Severus did begin to understand a little bit of what Harry is going through, and that empathy will help later on. Harry doesn't trust Sev yet, but maybe the armor inside is beginning to crack just a tiny bit.
Author's Response: Yeah, he probably should have, lol, but the variety of circumstances in Harry's life have all converged at once to cause such a deep depression. Thank you!
The "Wronski book" scene was very touching. It's interesting that Harry asked if he had permission to play and Severus gave it -- underlines the slave relationship that they have even though they do not discuss it much. Author's Response: Ha, you'll never take me alive! Lol, actually I'm pretty easy to find, I suppose. But no worries...I will work on the next chapter soon. I'm so glad you liked the Wronski book scene...that was my favourite part of the chapter. And no, they don't discuss the slavery relationship often, but it's never far from Harry's mind, at least. They will have to talk about it more in the future for Harry to start the healing process, though. |
