Hi, I'm Jan. :D I love Snape and Harry fics, and just mentor fics in general. I first started Potions and Snitches (P&S) as a safe place to find Snape & Harry gen fics without stumbling into Snape and Harry slash (aka Snarry, or HP/SS).

Fandoms that I like to read fanfiction of include: Star Trek, Star Wars, Kung Fu : The Legend Continues, Dragonball Z, Stargate SG1, Batman, Angel, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. I like Gen and Mentor fics mostly. I love hurt/comfort, angst, whump, drama, raw emotions, and vivid descriptions best.

I know how to make and edit graphics, icons, and layouts (html and css). I am a master web searcher. XD

My dreams? One day I'd like to be able to run up a mountain effortlessly, or at least easily. :) I'd like to see Potions and Snitches host every single good Snape and Harry Gen fic there ever existed. I'd like to have people who post here get 100 reviews a chapter. I'd like active-to-the-bursting challenges and contests. I want the site to be a great, fun place that readers of Snape and Harry fics loved and knew as active.

After 1st year, Harry is warned by Dobby not to return to Hogwarts. He runs away and is gone for nearly a year before he is tracked down/rescued by Snape. His enrollment is revoked, so he can only stay at Hogwarts if he's taken on as an apprentice. Can Prof. Snape's firm hand mentor him and help him prepare for his future?

    I'm so glad you enjoyed my "social services roulette" line, lol. That's one of the most fun parts of writing Snape, he is so SO snarky!!

    I loved this chapter. Snape is so comedically out of his depth. Harry is a very in-character 12 year old. I have a feeling that this apprenticeship is going to be severely testing Snape's patience. Muah hahahaha!

    So did Harry leave his Owl at the Dursleys locked up? Why didn't Hedwig find him? I'm sure Dobby would have prevented any mail from getting to Harry even after Harry ran away.

    I bet Hedwig is peeved at Harry for leaving her behind. Did she just hang out in the trees on Privet Drive until Dumbledore arrived?

    This is such a great story, I'm loving that I can read so much all at once. Thank you for writing and sharing!

    I'm glad Harry is getting a haircut! And I'm so glad that Harry broke down and told Snape the reason why he ran away in the first place.

    I'm not sure Harry really trusts Snape with his safety yet. I look forward to that feeling and trust growing.

    I hope Snape has some pepperup potions or missing sleep potions to take. With all these late nights he's got to be tired.

    Poor Harry is worn out. I wonder if he doesn't see the invisibility cloak as a security blanket after sleeping with it for so long when he was on the run. I bet it's filthy too unless it has magic keeping it clean.

    Do Harry's old clothes still fit him? Will the Gryffindor badges on his robes be changed back to whatever they were before he got sorted?

    Fantastic story and development so far! I appreciate you leaving the chapter were it is. No cliffhangers.

    I really look forward to seeing how Snape will get the Potions group to allow him to make Harry his apprentice. Would mentioning Harry's orphan state and that Harry is the son of Snape's oldest friend help? Or will it be based purely on potential? I can't wait to find out.

    Author's Response: These are all great questions and they will DEFINITELY be addressed in the upcoming chapters. I'm working on them now, and I'm smiling because we will get a fun few Snape and Harry interactions as they deal with all of these things :)

    You hit the nail on the head with the cloak. It was his only piece of "magic" that kept him safe-- and you're absolutely right that it became a security blanket. Plus it helped him feel connected to his dad. I don't think this is the last we'll be seeing or hearing about this cloak :)
     
    I've been writing like a fiend this week- so hopefully I'll have another chapter up soon. This story has come to me in a huge wave and I can't seem to get it out quickly enough. Thank you for your detailed and thoughtful reviews- it helps me stay motivated and excited to write this story and know that it's not going completely out into the void! 

    Sidenote: Snapes not the only one, I think I need some pepper-up, lol.

    I see you used described Harry's cloak as a security blanket. :)

    I really liked reading all of Snape's musings about his apprenticeship. Will he go meet his old master in person? Travel to his old apprenticeship home? That's got to bring up a lot of memories and feelings.

    I wonder how their conversation will go.

    And I wonder if Harry will be able to seek around without being caught or not.

    Yes, his cloak as a security blanket was definitely a shoutout to your observations :) This is what is fun about writing fanfic with feedback as you go. I love it. 
     
    We will definitely be meeting Master Barclay. It should be very interesting for Snape. He's been on his own for a long time but this is the one man whose approval he always wants and needs. It will definitely bring up a lot of the feels.

    Author's Response: I wish it was canon too. I will always believe it is. They never found a body. And I don't believe that the youngest Potion Master in England and not have an antidote to Nagini's venom.

    YES! I love it! Ron being mature is a much needed character development for him. Poor Draco though. Shouldn’t his head of house, a house elf, or the school nurse be taking care of his hygiene needs?

    I really liked Harry’s idea of using the Prefects bath as a pool.

    Dumbledore spying and seeing Ron’s maturity is a plus.

    I love this new development. And Ron says it all about not wanting to owe Draco Malfoy anything.

    Woah fantastic start! Poor Harry, he's in a new place but having a difficult time. I bet he's desperate to keep his jb so he can get money to eat. Are the Dursley's really not feeding him? At all?

    I really like your original characters, they are just developed and described enough. I really liked Severus' disguise as an old man.

    I loved reading from Snape's point of view. It makes sense that he would love being alone at night as his form of socialization. As an introvert it makes sense. Same with staying up all night, and sleeping when most others are awake.

    I loved how Snape spyed and followed Harry. It must of been a big shock to realize Harry is living next door. Haha!

    Great story so far! I am really enjoying it. Thanks for writing and posting another one!

    Woah! What a develoment!

    I love how Snape left Harry food on his trash bin. So sad that Harry would still eat it even if it were poison.

    Vernon really beat him up. :( I'm glad that Harry knew of a safe place to go. I really hope that Harry's belongings aren't burned.

    I love at the end of this chapter how Harry was told of the adoption open house. I bet Snape shows up. Ha! That would be a nightmare for Harry once he sees Snape, even if he's in disguise first.

    Fantastic chapter. I am really loving this story. Thank you for writing and posting!
