So bittersweet. At least the funny parts made up for the sad ones. Loved the 'friendly neighbourhood Quidditch fanatics', and 'playing they was dogs'. I was laughing like mad for a full minute at that. :)

Author's Response: yes I wanted a nice mix between funny and sad, since I can't stand doing a totally depressing fic.  Glad you liked my quirky sense of humor, I wanted it to be funny yet tasteful. Thanks so much for R & R ing!

Normality never suited Harry, not even when he was a baby. A side story in the Alea Iacta Est universe that functions as a one-shot. Entrant in the 2009 Prompt Fest. Prompts: Boggart Under the Bed and Candlelight.

Title: Chapter 1: A Forgotten Moment 27 Nov 2009

Hmm, I guess I'm missing quite something by not having read the original series. However, as it's a prequel - or so I assume - the storyline was easy to follow, and you explained the whole situation with Lily/Severus nicely for a reader who's clueless about your universe.

I've never really got the thing with renaming Harry, though. Somehow, his image is so strongly associated with his name (in my mind, that is), that I've a hard time getting used to him being called otherwise. Ah, well. I could - forced myself to, more likely - pretend for the tiniest moment that Hadrian was Harry. :P

Really loved how you described Severus as 'young father' who, even on the point of exhaustion and having his own goals in view (the Potions Mastery), is ready to abandon everything to help/save/protect his son. It was so... heart-warming, for a lack of a better word. Especially this place: "He’d kill the Dark Lord himself if it came down to it if it meant securing a happier world for his child to grow up in." Boy, that made me love Severus so much more, if that's possible! :D

All in all, very nice story, and you've definitely got me interested as to what exactly is going on in Alea Iacta Est. :D

    Good job!

    Author's Response:

    Yay a new reader!

I'm happy to hear you were able to follow the storyline without getting confused. I tried to put in the necessary details for people who weren't familiar with the main story, and it sounds like I was pretty successful at that.

As far as the name goes, in the main story it's discovered his legal name is Hadrian, but he goes by Harry and will for the foreseeable future. The name thing is a part that's better explained in the main story, but the explanation couldn't really have been included here. I picked a name close to Harry on purpose as a nickname for Hadrian could easily be Harry.

I always believed Severus had a heart, even if in canon it was kept hidden and tucked away. It makes him more human and I'd like to think that everyone has dreams and Severus was no exception.

I'm glad you're interested in Alea Iacta Est now. I hope you enjoy reading that as well. Be prepared for lots of twists and turns and once you read that you'll be able to come back to this story and pick up on the subtext that adds a tiny bit of sad tone to this moment. Thanks so much!

Very interesting take on an AU. Loved how the scenes with Weasleys were weaved into the story, and the last episode in the hospital was absolutely heart-breaking.

Argh! It's not fair that people should write side stories to their fics and get me curious about the longer versions! ;)

I was very intrigued by the thought of Bellatrix acting as a mother, because that's definitely something I've a hard time reconciling with her image as a psychopathic Death Eater, Voldemort's right hand, a person who enjoys causing others pain. Curious, so very curious. :)

Snape was adorable with Harry. I just don't know why would he hide from Harry the boy's true identity if Lily and James were dead. Though, I guess, I'll have to read the other story to get my answers, won't I? :)

    Author's Response:

Sorry, this story just popped out of my head. You don't have to read the long version.

Bellatrix is a person and I believe that depending on the choices a person makes, anything can happen. Of course, she is sort of crazy.

Snape wants to be Harry's dad. He feels that if Harry knows about James, he'll be compeating against him and Severus already lost an awful lot to James. He doesn't want to loose Harry too.

    Thanks for reviewing!

The idea of apprenticeship is great, but all those posh titles of Harry's got me laughing out loud. I mean - the owner of Hogwarts?

Nevertheless, I'm curious to see how the relationship between Snape and Harry develops.

    Author's Response:

The Owner of Hogwarts is not a title, it is just stating a fact. As in, because Harry Potter is Lord Slytherin and Lord Gryffindor, he is the Owner of Hogwarts.

    Thanks for reading and reviewing.

Great idea to bring in Sirius' mother (only, her name is spelled 'Walburga'); she spices the story up a little. I do hope to see more of her.

Hmmm... I was rather disappointed by Snape warming up to Harry so soon. :P Though I definitely don't like the 'mutual hatred' thing, I'd've loved to see how tutoring Harry morphed Snape's attitude towards him. I could deal with the Professor readily agreeing to accept Harry as his apprentice, but the 'apology' and Snape's instant 'oh, okay' attitude was a bit too much. Or maybe, I just like angst, conflicts and tension. :D

Voldemort wants to build an army of young, powerful, and virtually indestructible Death Eaters. How do Harry and Snape fit into that plan? Entrant in the 2009 Prompt Fest. Prompts: A Dangerous Game and Through the Keyhole

Ha ha! Go Moody! Trust him to say to Shacklebolt "Relax, laddie." :D Oh and, I loved this place: "the newly improved Dursleys". Improved, indeed. :) So, things are getting better for Harry? Why do I get the feeling that it's not for long? On to the next chapter, then...

    Author's Response:

Yeah, I could just picture Moody in the movie, turning to Shacklebolt and saying with his thick accent, "Relax laddie," and then taking a swig of his scot from his canteen.  Oh yeah, the Dusleys are improved. Animals are higer up on the kindness and compassion chain, then those worthless relatives of Harry are.

Things will get better for Harry, but it's going to take a little time.  Being with Snape is not going to be easy.

Very intriguing beginning. Can't wait to see where this goes. Towards a happy ending, I hope. :D

    Author's Response:

Aw thanks. Oh...you'll have to wait and see, like about fifteen minutes or so! :)

Ah, Dumbledore gets his way - again. But if that means Snape will try to make amends and be a little nicer to Harry, I'm certainly not complaining. :)

Author's Response: Well...it's always darkest before the storm, so Snape won't change instantly, but between the potion and the blood adoption, he'll get a little push in the right direction.
