Uh, oh for Draco. I can't help but wonder if it was really an accident or if it was an attempt by Draco to end the situation. I'm sure it'll be interesting whichever way you decide, and I look forward to reading it. Author's Response: Hi, Ella. Thanks for reviewing. Sorry I've taken a while to get back with you...both of our computers went down with viruses and we were computerless for a few days. I've always thought that, as much as Harry missed his parents and thought of them, that it would be logical for him not to want to celebrate Halloween. More on Draco in the next chapter. Thanks again!
Ugh, Draco. He's so emotionally frustrating. One moment you want to hate him for the words he spewed, and the next you're concerned for the boy. I'm curious to see what's wrong with him now. It doesn't sound like it was a simple nightmare. Great chapter, and I hope that really soon there'll be some progress made on freeing Harry. Author's Response: Thank you, Ella! And yes, you're exactly right...Harry did need some time alone with Severus. And yep, that's exactly how Draco is right now, but that's how I think he would be acting. He has a lot of emotions and feelings, and some changes going on inside right now, but he isn't quite ready to admit guilt and remorse aloud yet. But since SC is primarily from Harry's POV, with a bit of Severus, it may not be quite as obvious what's going on in Draco's head yet. It's been pretty difficult to write, but I think things will begin to change soon. As for freeing Harry, well...there have been guesses about that, and some people have been right. I only hope readers won't feel cheated about my plan, but it has been in the works for some time now.
I love the idea of the little presents every morning. Very cool and shows Harry how much Severus cares for him. I'm sure Severus meant well with the Quidditch tickets. They may be a little push towards going back out into the world, but it's for something that Harry will really enjoy. Plus, everyone should be focused on the match rather than Harry. Maybe Sev has some polyjuice plans to make Harry feel more comfortable? I'm looking forward to seeing where you're going to take that and how Harry and Sev will handle it. As much as Draco is a villain in this story, I can't help but feel for him as well. He's been forced to live through horrible things that no teenager ever should. I hope with the realization that Draco and Harry both have suffered witnessing their mother's death, they may find some peace between each other. I still think Draco might be the one to figure out a reversal to Harry's slavery spell, so I hope he'll be included in that soon. He's rather bright, and sometimes that gets overlooked. Author's Response: Thank you, Ella! Yeah, I think Harry would have some deep-seated insecurities after all those years of being unwanted and unloved. It takes time and lots and lots of reassurances to heal from that. >>>I love the idea of the little presents every morning. Thank you. The idea of Severus giving Harry a little gift and them pretending it was from Hedwig was one of the first ideas I had for this story way back in its planning stages. I'm happy you like it. Interesting idea about Draco helping find a solution to the slavery spell!
The situation with Draco is at a bad time for Harry. I know it's tough knowing that Draco is good at potions and has always had a relationship with Severus. While Draco really needs Severus right now, it's hard for Harry to realize that the extra attention is a necessity not a choice of Draco over Harry. I knew Hedwig would think of polyjuice or glamours. *Pats self on back* I'm glad that the quidditch tickets issue was at least addressed. That's one thing off Harry's shoulders. Great chapter, and I can't wait for more. Author's Response: Thank you! Yeah, you've described exactly what's going on with Harry and Severus right now. They need to have a long heart-to-heart, don't they?
This chapter was a nice example of how Severus is changing throughout the story as Draco noted. He was very patient with Harry yet stayed his observant self. Then there's the nice bit of Severus introspection that got into his newer evolved psyche. We see that Severus' thoughts are starting to be dominated by what's good for Harry, instead of for himself or other, which is very realistic in recognizing Harry fully as his son. Then finally, at the end we see the shift with Draco. There's a bit of Sev's newfound patience, and then treats Draco with Harry in mind, knowing that Harry has to come first. At the end, the "Harry studies in the library in the mornings. Wait until lunch," bit was perfect. It really summed up the whole purpose of this chapter for me. Great chapter, and I look forward to what you've got coming up. I hope there's some progress on the slavery spell soon. Author's Response: Thank you, Ella! I loved your comments on how Severus has changed, but I hope I have also kept his true inner self the same, just had him reach his potential in becoming a better person. And of course Harry is Severus' main concern. He cares for Draco, but Harry is his son. As for the slavery spell, I hope you can be patient...did I mention that I had decided to incorporate the potential sequel ideas into this story and have it be longer? If I do that, I may have to change the timeline on certain things, such as resolution of the slavery spell. But it will be addressed in due time!
But then Draco stepped in. lol. It seems he's not too happy with the new situation. Hopefully, that'll work itself out without too much drama though Draco seems synonymous with drama in this story. I can't wait to see how this new situation shuffles up their lives. I hope we'll see some more Harry and Severus time and Harry forgiving Draco a little more, enough to work together. Great chapter, Kristeh! PS: There's a lot of blank space at the end of the chapter. Did Word create an extra page for you before you uploaded it here? Author's Response: Thank you, Ella! >>>I love how it was Harry reassuring Severus this time. It shows how much Harry has grown since the beginning of the story. That's exactly what I wanted to show in this scene, and to show that Harry can take an active role in helping to heal Severus too.
>>>...though Draco seems synonymous with drama in this story. LOL, yeah, he's good for that. Draco has issues of his own, definitely, but I hope to show him maturing and coming into his own too, as the story proceeds. He has a lot of potential, I think. About all the blank space, somehow I must have double-copied the chapter. When I pasted it onto the P&S site, it posted twice so I had to delete the extra stuff and it left extra space, I suppose.
I still love that you always make me feel sympathetic for Draco. At the end here he just wants some friends, and he's the outsider. I hope things work out for him. Any progress on the slavery spell? I'm hoping Harry will be free sooner rather than later. Author's Response: Aw, thank you, Ella! Yes, Harry does need his friends for lots of reasons. Ron and Hermione were his first family and have been there for him at times when no one else was. I'm glad you're feeling sympathetic for Draco. I've always thought he had potential, and I really wanted him to achieve it here. He's still got issues, definitely...witness his insecurity and jealousy of Harry's friendship...but he's getting there. I am debating the timing of the slavery spell resolution. If I incorporate the sequel ideas into this story, I might need to change the timeline I had originally planned. Or I might end it the way I have scheduled, and just write a sequel after all, though it might not be as long. I keep going back and forth on which would be a better, smoother way of writing it all. But I'll have to come to a decision soon. Thanks again.
With that said, I love Christmas chapters. They always feel more whimsical than real Christmases. Even if it takes until summer, I'll still be anxious to read it. I hope Harry gets lots of fun surprises. I'm anxious to see what Severus got for Harry and vice versa. PS: Congrats on reaching 1,000 reviews on this site! Author's Response: Thank you, Ella! Yeah, I think Harry has reached a turning point, too. He knows now for certain that most people are on his side and won't look down on him because of the spell, and that is a comfort to him. I love the Christmas chapters too, and hopefully it won't take me til summer, lol.
I'm anxious to see how it goes once they return to Hogwarts, and what awaits Harry and Severus there. I hope Harry continues on this forward progress and that soon he won't be so worried about the slavery spell one way or another. Great chapter, Kristeh! Author's Response: Thank you! Glad you liked the Disney tickets...I love Disney myself. You're never too old for Disney. Hogwarts is still a few chapters away, but a lot will happen in the meantime, for sure.
I'm happy Harry got out, and it was a successful outing. It seemed like a normal day until they portkeyed into Hermione's kitchen. Yikes. I hope nothing horrible happened although the blood seems to indicate something did. I knew it couldn't be that quiet for long. Author's Response: Thanks, Ella! Yeah, something's happened...I had to try to put some action in, just to keep things from getting boring. |
