Left with partial paralysis after being tortured by Voldemort, Severus is sent to Bell Point, a secure location on the seaside owned by the Order of the Phoenix. However, he is not the only one who will be there, for Harry, refusing to express his emotions regarding Sirius’ death, has unknowingly invoked an ancient kind of magic that will force him to deal with them. Deaged to four years old, he has to contend with a bitter and broken Snape, who, like Harry, is being forced to live in a body that does not work the way it used to. These two vastly different people have beat the odds many times over, and somehow prevailed in a world that has tried time and time again to destroy them. But the challenges they now face are nothing like they’ve ever seen before. Will they rise to the occasion, or become prisoners within themselves?

I love the chapter. Brilliant! Especially the ending. I wonder what Dumbledore will do?

Author's Response: Glad you liked the ending! Yes, it is rather puzzling as to what Dumbledore will do. I suppose you shall find out soon enough!

I like that Dudley for once does something good. And his spelling is atrocious...

    Author's Response:

I dictated the letter to my eleven year old niece and asked her to write it as if she was Dudley. Thats what she came up with.

Someone slips Harry a potion that has irreversible, life-changing effects. Now, he’s somehow ended up stuck with Snape for the summer -- going to summer camp!

That's an idea I haven't seen yet. The only vaguely similar fic I can recall was on AO3 but died up, and in it Snape couldn't speak due to Nagini's bite.

Anyway, I will be following this one intently, as I am hard-of-hearing too (100 dB).

Author's Response: thank you, I'm glad you like it! You'll have to let me know if I mess something up then - I am generally relatively knowledgeable about hearing loss and related, but as I have pretty average hearing myself, it can be a bit hard to translate book knowledge and secondhand knowledge into a story.

First, I'm sorry I won't be able to help you with BSL/ASL, I'm Polish and I don't know any sign language.

Second, you get a lot of brownie points for including kids who both speak and sign and for making a distinction between d/Deaf and HoH. That's two traps loads of people fall into - assuming all hearing-impaired sign exclusively and that they all identify as Deaf.

Third, I can definitely sympathize with Harry feeling isolated and lonely - I've been there myself even though I use hearing aids.

And now for some things you might consider for future chapters:
    1) I've found that water is conducive to better hearing - dunno why, something about the way the sound propagates and the water's properties. Anyhow, as you have a lake there, you could use it :)
    2) Did Snape ever consider hearing aids? Why/why not? I could tell you loads of reasons for both (even though I've used hearing aids since 9 months old), but I have to cut this review short :P
    ***
If you want to know something, just ask - I have loads of firsthand info. And secondhand, since I happen to be writing a thesis on the topic of hearing-impaired.

    Author's Response:

Thank you so much for reviewing, and for letting me know where I've gone right! And thank you for the suggestions - I never would have thought of the water thing. I'll have to see whether it will ever fit, but it is definitely an interesting thought. As for hearing aids, I believe I mentioned in the story that I am working off the idea that hearing aids and cochlear implants would be too 'delicate' electronically to survive around prolonged exposure to magic. So although simple electronic devices might work around limited amounts of magic, something more complicated like a hearing aid or a cochlear implant would not. So it might work for a little while, but would eventually break down, even if it's not at Hogwarts where the place is completely suffused with magic. Does that make sense? I thought it did, hopefully it does to others too. I partially felt like this made sense for the world of Harry Potter, and partially felt like getting into hearing aids and implants just added an entirely new dimension to an already fairly complicated story, and I did not really want to deal with it. I know other people have found ways to get electronics to work at Hogwarts or around magic (although Harry's watch working in the books is never really explained...), but I chose not to go that way.

Thank you for the review and the advice! I'll let you know if I have questions.

This is my contribution to the Summer Ficfest. This short story will chronicle Harry's summers from birth to the summer after fourth year (maybe longer not certain).

I aww'ed when I saw Ally and Nev mentioned...

Author's Response: hihi, good. I figured, just because their in hiding doesn't mean Harry has never met any other magical boys. Who better to be his friend than the other boy in the same predicament as him. :)
