About me:

I am currently a business major hoping to work join the peace corps upon graduation to help work toward better economic development in other countries. I would also like to manage non-profits eventually. I love to read and like to write though I'm not great novelist. I'm making a return to fanfiction after a long, long, long absence. I haven't read or written anything since high school that could be considered fanfiction. I missed the weird little community that is Harry Potter fandom. I love being outside and have a very, very old beagle who is my baby. I love to edit work but it's been awhile on that, too. [Report This]

*smiles* You know, I started reading this story a long, long time ago when it first came out when I was in high school still. And then I stopped reading fanfiction for awhile and I kind of forgot about it. What a joy to rediscover it and get to finish it. A great plot, excellent characterization, and good writing. One of my favorites of all time, truly.

It wasn't that hard. Write an essay about what he had done wrong- surely Potter could not fail at something so simple.

Very potent and sad. I liked it a lot. Poor Harry.

When Harry is inexplicably deaged while working a case undercover, his children are suddenly left without a place to live, as Ginny died a few years ago in a tragic Quidditch accident. After an array of problems with other family options, the kids end up living with their paternal grandfather, Severus Snape, whom they've never met. Severus must learn to live with James, Al, and Lily, as well as explain to them why he and Harry remained estranged, even after learning that they were blood relations.

This is very different. I generally avoid stories that are epilogue compliant but this is a very interesting concept. It definitely got me interested in what will happen and what happened with Harry and Snape.

Lily is so cute. I like the dynamic between the kids. Poor Severus just wants to be left alone. I like Kreacher, too. I find this . . . more realistic, I suppose, than some other fics. I love fics where Harry and Snape reconcile but it does require you to suspend disbelief a bit.

One thing I noticed: “I miss him to, Lil.”

    Too, not to.

    Good chapter.

Rather than allowing Harry to stay at Diagon Alley after he blew up Aunt Marge, the Ministry sends Harry back to the Dursleys. Harry returns to school after a terrible summer, to find that he's not the only one with this kind of secret. A student has been killed by his family. New screening measures are put into place by the Ministry: Every student must be given a medical exam and interview to look for child abuse. With Dumbledore facing an inquiry, Snape is entrusted with the task of making sure EVERYONE receives one.

I know you've gotten a ton of reviews - rightfully - but I just wanted to tell you that I loved your story. Read everything you have in one day. It kept me up until two in the morning finishing up and I dreaded to see the end come. Just . . . pitch-perfect characters. And you write with such authority and knowledge/research that it really brings the story to life. And I know it's just fanfiction, but you treat the subject of child abuse and suicide with such respect and care that I just have to take a moment to applaud your efforts.. I think the subject of abuse is treated rather flippantly in fandom. And I know that's all in good fun to cause the hurt to get to the comfort and that angst is interesting, but rarely is the psychology SO spot on. So lacking in glamour and so fierce in its determination to strike true to reality. I found Ginny's bit in this story very hard to read as well as Harry's suicide attempt . . . I have had problems with mental health during my lifetime including a misguided suicide attempt. It was so real that truthfully it was a bit triggering even now, but it was also GRATIFYING to see the subject treated with such understanding. From a writing perspective, you have a well-thought out grasp on the world you're writing within and there aren't any plot holes or anything that jump out at me which is a problem with a lot of fanfiction. Aside from a few typos, the whole thing is super polished which makes for more pleasurable reading.

As if you didn't already hear enough of my life story, I haven't read any fanfiction in AGES. I mean, since high school and I'm almost done with college. I found myself a few days ago bored with all my books, missing the days of harry potter where an entire volume could be read in one day and then flipped back to page one for a rabid rereading. That wasn't just me, right? So I thought I'd see if there were any good stories out. And I happened across yours. Problem is now I don't really want to read anything else, lol.

    ...

Anyway, now that I've revealed myself as a newfound raving fangirl of yours . . . The mandatory OMGPLSUPDATESOON! Seriously, though, for whatever little it may matter, I think you have a gift. And seriously, update soon. And sorry for the novel of a review.

    Author's Response:

    You are very kind.

I'm trying very hard to keep it real, as it were, while staying in universe. I write largely for my teenagers and their friends, so its important to me that these things are not glamorised. I know too many teens who think that with suicidal gestures, one is either perfectly fine, or dead. THat there is no dreadful recovery period.

Will be updatig soon. RL has been keeping me away from my keyboard.

What happens when a brain damaged Harry and a transgender Hermione both get sorted into Slytherin? Snape's not sure, but he thinks it's likely to be an interesting term. This story follows various first years through the trials of their first year

Very, very interesting. I can honestly say I haven't read anything like it before? In fact, I almost didn't give this a chance, but I'm glad I did. It kept my attention this first chapter and I like the different styles of the teachers and the tweaking you've done to the characters (okay, well, Harry was a bit more than tweaking) . . . I'll definitely keep reading. :)
