I really feel like I am right there with Harry. Just a major sense of unfulfillment and frustration even with Severus back. Though I usually don't care for these type's of chapters due to my annoying short attention span and patience levels, I did get a chuckle out of it for some reason. Harry got what he wanted - Severus back - but nothing really changed. He still doesn't know what is going on.

I'm conflicted on allowing Minerva to question Severus given her bias but if anyone could ferret out the absolute truth, it would be her. DD would be too accommodating and unwilling to ask the hard questions and follow up on vague answers. I'm so incredibly curious as to what was revealed and how Severus feels about the questions and his answers.

I hope you are feeling better: Your AN indicated you have been ill for quite some time. Being ill for an extended period of time sucks balls. It just gets so annoying...Like "come on already! I'm so done with being sick"

Harry turns to magic in an attempt to be free of his nightmares. He has found a ritual to summon the spirits of those whom one has wronged so that one may atone. But nothing involving the Boy-Who-Lived is ever that simple.

interesting idea. On the one hand, I love Snape as a character and never want to see him hurt. On the other hand, he has done a lot of bad and should atone for it.

If the spirits feel that an "eye for an eye" is the way to do that, then so be it. Though I hope once he's paid the price that is done and over. No coming back again and again or inducing guilt at a later date.

Since Harry hasn't really done much to need to make amends for, I wonder what would have happened if he had be allowed to complete the ritual?

Author's Response: Thinking about what Harry might have faced compared to what Snape is facing totally makes it worse, doesn't it.

Fuck. Poor Snape. If he's going to be tortured and judged, an advocate that is a bully himself and snape's personal tormentor just sucks balls. I have no confidence in James (or Lily) whatsoever.

How different would things be if Snape went to pick up Harry instead of Hagrid?

Snapshots of how things might have been through all seven years by season.

This is where in kids minds their opinion of certain adults in solidified. Why didn't Neville get detention? Why is Harry the target for harassment and sabotage?

Hogwarts offers an informational meeting for all the muggle-raised first years. Harry decides to go. The only trouble is that his relatives would never take him.

A very fun read, I loved it!

Author's Response: Thank you. I am happy you enjoyed it!

He would always be Snape's son. Discovering the truth made Harry an outsider in his own family, but he's got a very different year ahead of him...

A very interesting twist. I'm definitely hooked.

It's funny that Petunia insists the agreement is broken and Severus insists it's in tact...even if he doesn't want it to be so.

Author's Response: Yay! And yes, I quite enjoyed writing that bit :P Thanks for the review!!

When an Occlumency lesson goes wrong, Snape learns more about Harry’s past than he ever wanted to—and it changes everything. But change doesn’t come easily, especially for two who have spent five years loathing each other’s very existence. Can Snape and Harry come to a mutual understanding of sorts to defeat their greatest enemy—themselves? Spring of 5th year, A/U. Completely written and posted in chapter installments.

Whew! I imagine Harry is just as emotionally confused as I am. Quite the roller coaster.

First...LOL at the idea that Harry doesn't know the counter to the sticking charm. He can leave whenever he wants really.

Second: Detention with Snape after this doesn't sound good. Snape is Snape. He's cruel and can't really help but provoking responses and then beating a person down for it. Sort of like he sets harry up for failure and then condemns him for it. How is Harry going to get all his homework done if he has detention for a month? I can't imagine this is the only punishment harry will receive for this justified explosion.

Third: I'm actually happy Harry sort of snapped and pushed back against one of his many abusers. About time. It also has the happy yet scary side affect of exposing the abuse. Happy because he'll get treatment but scary since it's very possible it's already known and/or nothing will be done about it. Also scary that Snape now knows all of Harry's vulnerabilities and will most likely use them against Harry (at least from Harry's experience of Snape thus far).

    Should be interesting.

On the one hand, I'm gratified that DD didn't know. On the other hand, he is undoubtedly negligent in his self appointed responsibility "to keep harry safe". He totally dropped the ball which means he is unable to actually keep harry safe, leading me to believe that he shouldn't have this responsibility anymore. Harry is old enough to make his own decisions once he's given all the facts. That he is still making decisions for Harry without his input and without disclosing all the information is insulting and shows that he does't actually care, no matter how horrified he is.

His waffling on Umbridge and protection of Petunia (a fucking child abuser) for the sake of the status quo and his personal plans, rather than justice and harry's safety leave quite the bitter taste in my mouth.

DD isn't off the hook in my opinion. Nor is he capable of choosing Harry's protector at the Dursley's. I honestly don't think DD see's harry as a person; just a tool.

Love (read: hate) how Severus conveniently didn't show his own abuse of Harry and will come off as the Hero in DD's eyes. And when harry disputes this, DD will admonish him, leaving Harry feeling unheard and his justified complaints dismissed as unimportant. That the abuser is once again getting away with it, with DD's knowledge and consent. Just like Petunia and Umbridge will.

I seriously hope Harry doesn't just forgive and accept him. IRL, Snape would have some serious confession and atonement to do before any sort of halfway positive relationship could be formed. Forget about trust. IRL, that wouldn't happen for a very long time and only after a lot of work on Snape's part. I honestly don't think this Snape would be capable or even willing to do it.

Does Snape even really care that abused Harry? Or is it just a momentary feeling of shame that he was wrong and was forced to admit that?

Am I being too critical of Snape?

    Great chapter!

Well....you certainly painted a very vivid image of Harry's emotions and appearance. I could feel Harry's impotent rage, just the sheer unfairness of it all as well as Hate. Oh...the hate came through loud and clear.

One thing I always have trouble accepting in these types of stories is Snape's abrupt turnaround when he finds out Harry isn't what he's predetermined Harry to be, nor was Harry's upbringing what Snape decided it was with no evidence whatsoever.

So, according to Snape, his treatment of harry was perfectly justified so long as harry was a pampered prince, but once he find out Harry is abused, then his abuse of Harry is no longer justified and he's sorry for his actions. But he's only sorry once he finds out about the abuse. Not before. Snape in essence feels abuse is justified for people that are raised spoiled.

If that were so, they why doesn't he treat Malfoy and the dozens of other spoiled, pampered students like he does Harry? Rarely does either Snape or Harry acknowledge this is this genre of stories.

But, if order for anything to happen in a story, things must change, Snape in particular must change. It just sticks in my craw that Harry has to be beaten bloody for a decade in order for that to happen.

It's also funny that these are some of my most favorite stories and genre. Quite the contradiction I realize.

    I look forward to more.

Author's Response: I totally understand where you are coming from and I've heard that before. To me, I see it as Snape views Harry as James Potter, and in his eyes, James Potter was a spoiled, well-loved, well-cared for child (unlike Snape himself as a child). So, to me, it's not so much that he finds out Harry was abused by the Dursleys as it is that he realizes how much Harry Potter is NOT Jame storiess Potter. It's like the abuse/neglect opens his eyes. Maybe it's all the same thing, but to me it seems a bit different. It is a well-worn theme, though. I always encourage fan fic writers to write what they want to see; that's often what drives my stories. I see something that doesn't sit well with me, so I write my own version. Thanks for reading and your review!

Ok...maybe I'm too cynical but I honestly saw this as a performance of Snape's. Calculated and meant to negate Harry's justified anger and resentment towards Snape and his treatment of Harry. Perhaps a tiny bit was atonement for his treatment of Harry, but then he turned it around to make Harry feel indebted and guilty because Snape...a person that hates Harry...is going through all this pain for Harry's benefit. So, not really atonement at all.

Snape not having the potion ready when he presumably knew he would need it judging by his words of being better able to handle the dark magic. Why he didn't have Poppy as an assistant if both the patient and healer would be incapacitated with pain during the procedure if not to make Harry feel bad and be that much more dramatic. Even though this was all Snape's decision and Harry didn't ask for this at all, I'm sure Snape will work it so Harry feels forced to "repay" him.

At the very least, Harry's arm should have been immobilized. The scar ointment and pain reliever should have been out already and a bed prepared for Snape and Poppy should have been on hand to assist Snape since again....he knew it would hurt and he would be incapacitated.

It was all a performance in my eyes, but I'm sure that's not what you meant for the story.

LOL...I think I'm too jaded for this story. A normal abused kid would probably get quite a bit of satisfaction seeing their abuser in pain on their behalf. Being forced to endure it in order to heal the kid they abused not a day prior and is still pulling rank and demanding "respect", even when the abused kid is in hospital and he's done nothing to earn said respect.

I suspect (because I'm cynical remember) that this one act is supposed to soften Harry towards Snape and make Harry forgive him his sins and for some reason, forge a sense of trust towards Snape. Washing 5 years of abuse away and giving Snape a clean slate as it were.
