Oh, that part about pretending to be a cat was so cute. I love toddlers at that age, right before they can talk. So sweet, just barely able to pretend - I bet Harry makes a very darling toddler.
Great job trying to capture the feeling of Harry looking at the pictures. He remembers some, but again, at that age it is so hard to understand anything adults are saying. Love how Harry thinks of Snape as the batman. "The batman, the batman" - how scary!
I really like this story, and I;m looking forward to reading more.

I like the beginning. I enjoy stories when the narrator shifts from one person to another and then back. A caution - make sure the voices sound different so no one gets confused. You did it welll here, but the challenge will be continuing it throughout the story. Snape as the adult will be more critical, using longer sentences and more complex thoughts. Harry as an eight-year-old will think simply and use trite language to describe his feeling. The dotted lines help, but remember to focus on the language.
Anyway, keep up the good work. I look forward to reading more.

The first six and a half chapters are already written, and Harry\'s voice is very mature... I have my reasons, and would love to discuss them more once you\'ve read some of the other chapters. I\'ll be posting them soon.

Like this chapter. I think Snape needs to step in and take control before Harry distroys himself.
I would like to see longer chapters though. You get us into the story, and then it's over. (pouts). Give us more, give us more!

Good chapter. I like where this is going. Draco helping babysit - could Snape be any meaner? I also like how Snape does things as he talks, but Harry is so preoccupied with what he is saying that he does not notice what Snape is doing. That doubling seems very Slytherin to me, but it's a great way to get things done without people noticing until it's too late.

This is a great start. We don't often see a lot of Harry grown up. It will be interesting to see where you take this.
I can't wait to see what Hogwarts will be like with Snape in charge. Maybe a straight-laced institution where all students march in two lines to classes and meals, looking straight ahead without smiling. Or will the students rebel, and Snape put everyone in detention until Christmas because they won't behave? In the first instance, the student might whine and complain to Harry for sympathy, and if he approached Snape, the new headmaster could threaten to make him march at the head of the lines. Or in the second case, Harry could be caught between the rebellious students and furious Snape, not knowing who to support. Let the good times roll!

Thanks for your thoughful review! I wrote this story a few days before HBP was released. I did intend to write a sequel, but HBP made it so completely AU that now I\'m not sure I\'ll ever write it. I don\'t have much interest on AU stories. I\'m not saying I won\'t do it, but it\'s not one of my priorities now. You gave me good ideas, though. Thank you!

Harry has trouble coming to terms with Sirius' death and finds himself once again having to take occlumency with Snape. This is the beginning of their growing relationship as Snape starts to see the green eyed wizard in a different light. Snape finds himself being a father figure to both Harry and Draco as the Dark Lord's power grows.

Yeah, this was a pretty tough chapter to swallow. Child abuse even in the teenage years seems really hard to get a feel for. Everyone seems overly emotional and out of control in this first chapter so I am a bit skeptical at this point. Lucius hits Draco, Draco goes to Snape for comfort, Draco also tries to kill Harry, Snape hits Draco. If I were in this fanfic, I would be ducking every time something went wrong, sure I was about to be hit or punched or thrown against a wall.
However, as I said, it is a first chapter. You could show how everyone, including Snape, matures and grows and develops over time.
So, I'll save my thoughts and comments for later chapters. Some times a writer needs to grow into the story and takes a chapter or two to stretch his or her wings. I'll wait to see where this flies.
