Being sent to stay in a psychiatric ward at St. Mungo’s isn’t exactly the most enjoyable way to spend a summer, so naturally, Harry’s pretty angry when he finds out that’s his destination, regardless of whether or not it might be good for him. Facing a full summer of being cut off from the Order’s plans, Harry’s even taken to envying Snape, because at least Snape knows what is going on. But when Harry arrives at St. Mungo’s and discovers that a fire has changed his destination from the teen ward to the adult ward, everything is turned upside down. Enter his roommate - suicidal, depressed, and none other than Severus Snape. They are both willing to bet that their summer will be a total disaster, and maybe it will be, but even the surest of gamblers are not always right.

    Hi Whitetail!
Thanks for the great chapter -- it’s dangerously captivating, and literally awesome. And I mean every word. :)
I might be completely wrong with this, but I sensed a bit of a 19th century literary style in Snape’s inner thoughts, especially in the first few lines. Anyway, he must be pretty ahead on his descent into madness, because I’m sure a mentally healthy Severus would be ashamed of (and angry with) himself for breaking down like that, for appearing weak in front of another person, whoever be the witness. As for Harry, he seems more okay-ish, but then again, physical self harm might just be a different route to the same pit…
I can’t wait for the update!

Author's Response: Howdy Annora! Awesome to hear your thoughts! You are most welcome for the chapter, and thank you so much for the long, detailed review. Hmm, 19th century literary style - yeah, I can see that! Haha, it's funny how sometimes books I am reading influence my writing! I've read a lot of old poetry and such (and write lots of poetry myself) so it isn't all that surprising it bleeds through. Ah yes, and Harry. Next to Snape he does look okay, doesn't he? Harry suffers from one of those issues that makes a person look mostly okay and feel okay a lot of the time, but the trouble is that it's those few times where the anger gets dangerous and the urge to feel pain gets too strong that really makes things difficult. Easy to pretend everything is all right, but really, it isn't. So yes, he does seem okay-ish - and that's what Harry is strugging with too, admitting he has a problem! Thanks again for your thoughts, and I can't wait to update too! Next week, alas.

    Hi Whitetail,
Sorry I haven’t written a review in ages - I didn’t lose interest, only I’ve had a really busy couple of weeks. But now I’m gonna reread your story and still looking forward to more. :)

Author's Response: Hey Annora! Oh that's alright - everyone gets busy sometimes! Awesome to hear you're still interested!  Thanks for the review!

Over Christmas break, Harry and Snape are attacked by a Ghangzou, a rare, magical genie that shows its victims what life would be like if one thing changed.

What they see will alter their relationship forever, if they'll let it.

(Originally meant for the Christmas challenge, but it sort of took on a life of its own)

A brilliant story, reminds me of Supernatural’s episode ’What Is And What Should Never Be’ but in Potterverse it’s a unique plot and your writing sytle is simply amazing!

    Author's Response:

    Hey Annora!

That was actually part of my inspiration for this story! Good catch.
