Excellent ending. As I was reading the three stories, I had felt this one might be nearing the end, and your final chapter felt very "right." Overall, some truly strong writing and characterization. I love the way you kept everyone very much in character.

Voldemort's forces are growing stronger and more organized. Despite warnings of this by the Order's spy, Harry Potter is captured. When he's rescued, will Snape be able to prove that he is useful as more than just a spy to the Order?

I've just been reading your story and am very much enjoying it. This chapter is very much like some theories that I and a few others have toyed with over on the Harry Potter Lexicon Forum. You might like to look on the Forum under the thread Snape As Lone Crusader (you have to scroll down toward the lower third of the threads to the Theories section). We were in particularly trying to reconcile Dumbledore's comments that Snape "rejoined" and "returned" to the good side, and that he referred to Voldemort as Snape's "employer" rather than master. Anyway, it's an interesting idea and actually does work with canon. Until DH tonight at midnight tells us differently (if it does), the idea that Snape was ever a *true* follower of Voldemort is really just an assumption.

    Author's Response:

Oooh, thanks!  I'll have to check that out.  He's such a forceful character that I couldn't help thinking of him this way.  I'm curious if the thread agrees with my later take on matters.

More to come but...DH comes out tonight and since I work at a book store AND have to read the book, this week will be hectic.  In fact, I should be getting into costume for the party right now.  Yikes!  Enjoy!

Another good chapter. As regards the inner thoughts... You go about inner thoughts in a more narrative fashion rather than establishing a distinct inner voice for Harry and Snape. Hm. Maybe you have more of a "voice" for Harry's inner thoughts. So far it's worked fairly well. The actual turn that their thoughts take is believable.

    Author's Response:

I'm glad that it's believable.  I don't mind reading stories where Snape goes out of character if there's a reason for it or a logical chain of events leading up to it.  I really think he genuinely dislikes Harry but takes his responsibilities seriously all the same.

Good observation.  I had to think about it for a while but I really do tell it from a third person trying to describe their thoughts than anything.  I'll have to toy around with that.  Thanks so much for the review.

I don't know if I've reviewed yet, but I am very much enjoying your story. I liked the way you had Harry notice the subtle signs of Snape being upset about the dead boy. We see JKR give those subtle signs sometimes in the HP series -- clinched hands on a chair, face turning pale, etc. Good IC characters.

Author's Response: Thanks!  Being in character was one of the things that concerned me.  I'm always afraid that every character is just going to end up a charicature of an aspect of myself, so I'm really happy to hear that everyone's in character.

Another great chapter. I like the way you're using things from canon to help Harry get to know Snape better. Like having Snape have notes in the margins of books that Harry looks at, or having Snape explaining how to create spells and Harry asking if Snape had ever created any.

Your explanation for how spells are created was *really* well done. JKR never explained this, but your ideas make such good sense and can apply to all of the various kinds of spells we see in canon. I wish your explanation *was* canon, it's so good. Then everyone would be using it.

    Author's Response:

Thanks!  That spell explanation was trying and I'm really glad it came out as well as it did.  I spent a lot of time looking through the books trying to find info on that even though I was pretty sure there wasn't any.  Then I just said the hell with it and sat down for an hour and made it up.  I wish I could ask JKR if this is what she had in mind.

Does the HP lexicon have a theory section?  Maybe I'll send it over there.  LOL

Anyway, glad you're enjoying this and thanks!

I particularly liked the inside view of Snape's thoughts about the Order. The part about the Order probably not being willing to stand up for him was especially good. And Harry's reaction to seeing Snape so angry was also great. I hope we get to see a continuation of this evening'e events.

    Author's Response:

Ah, I am soooo glad you mentioned that and liked that part.  That was my favorite part of that whole chapter.

This evening is not over yet.  The next chapter will pick up where this one left off.  Still working on that one.

     Thanks and Enjoy!

Very well done! I especially liked your switching points of view, which usually would get confusing as often as you did it, but this time it worked quite well and really helped move the action along.

And Snape was just excellent! Hope you can update soon as this chapter was so well written and exciting I can't wait to see the next.

    Author's Response:

Thanks!  That was a worry when I was writing this...the multiple points of view.  I'm relieved you think it came out well.  I like to do the third person, but I find it necessary to pick a point of view to write it from, at least in battles.  And that wouldn't have worked if I had just chosen one of them,  Whew!

I will update as soon as possible.  The next chapter is being written now and is only slightly less than half way done.  I feel very encouraged now!  Thanks!  And enjoy!

I've been looking for an update for this story pretty hopefully for awhile and was very happy to see this! Excellent chapter. I loved the interplay between Lupin and Snape, and the way Snape wanted to avoid reacting to Harry in line with everyone's expectations.

    Author's Response: Thanks!``I'm`really`glad`you`liked`those`parts.``They`were`fun`to`write,`not`least`because`everyone`expected`Snape`to`flip`out.``Hehe!``Love`hearing`from`you.``Thanks`and`enjoy!

The summer after 5th year, Death Eaters find Harry abandoned in the Dursley house and bring him to Voldemort. Will one particular Death Eater give up his position and his hate to save his enemy's child? Eventual Snape mentors Harry fic.

Hm. Quite a cliffhanger. What could be up with Snape? I'm guessing he's been effectively silenced temporarily in order to get Harry to follow Dumbledore's directives? But it's hard to see Dumbledore doing this to Snape, no matter how much he might want to manipulate the situation. I mean, if Dumbledore did this intentionally to get around Snape's objections to his plans, he'd lose Snape's trust completely. He'd be a fool not to know that. So I guess now I'm wondering what's wrong with Dumbledore (assuming he did this).

    Great chapter!

Can't recall if/when I've reviewed. I am really enjoying both of your stories. Don't know how you're keeping up with two at once, but they are both great, IC reads.
