Author's Response: I\'ve always thought him a rather interesting character. <g> I mean, he\'s the mysterious man in black--and there must be some pressing reason why Dumbledore trusted him so much. He can\'t be all vindictive snark and anger... 10 year old Harry is kidnapped along with his aunt and cousin after Vernon finds money that belonged to powerful people. Snape eventually steps in to save the day. Severus later adopts Harry though a ritual to make Harry his biological son. Harry just wants to be normal but that isn't possible with escaped convict Sirius Black on the loose! Harry's first year at Hogwarts but with a slight twist to it.

Think about it. When you talk to your friends, do you use complete, perfect sentences? You cut words off, combine words, like 'couldn't've' or 'wouldn't've', and you use slang. So does Potter universe. Anyway, good story so far. Can't wait to see where this goes. Author's Response: Thanks for the revirew! I never really thought about the slang and such but I will try to remember that in the future. Snape and Harry are locked in the Room of Requirement by Dumbledore. Harry's magic works, and Snape's doesn't. Will they kill each other? In response to the 72-Hour Challenge.

I've one question/idea/point, I dunno. One something. See, Harry's a pretty defiant boy and all about being independent but reckless - anyway, I know several people (me being one of them) that when they were walloped, they just got more angry/rebellous. Especially if it was over something that they (we) felt was right for us to do. I think you need to take that into consideration. If Harry were to do something he FELT (and he's some pretty radical views on what's right and wrong) was right but Snape wallops him, instead of breaking down into apologies, he could react different. Corpal punishment is effective (on the right kids, and Harry's one of them), but sometimes there're those times when the kid's just like 'NO, I didn't deserve that'. Unfortunately for my parents, I was like that EVERY time (coupled with the 'that didn't hurt' phrase)and it became so ineffective they had to have me sit absolutely still in corners ('cause I hated sitting still for any period of time). Anyway... Just for your developing thoughts and consideration. Author's Response: *shrugs* I've never been walloped, so I suppose I can't relate... LOL. But yeah, you have a point. In chapter 16 of this story, I implied that the spanking didn't go over so smoothly without actually spelling it out for everyone. Harry says something like, "No, this is ridiculous!" when Snape pulls him into his office to punish him, so I suppose that would be along the lines of "No, I didn't deserve that..." I actually don't think this version of Harry breaks down into profuse apologies after he's punished. In the beginning of this story, he's pretty defiant. But he's also on emotional-overload. Most kids don't have to deal with hearing voices in the walls, etc. when they're twelve years old. At the time of his spanking in Chapter 9 (and the swats he received in the chapter before that), Harry is upset/overwhelmed over what he's experiencing. It's mostly that, coupled with the chastisement, that brings Harry to tears. I don't consider Harry (in any story) to be a horrible brat. He's rebellious, yes, but he's also not used to having anyone care enough about him to punish him properly when he deserves it. I wanted to portray that small bit of 'shock' in his character every time he's scolded/punished... But as for the corporal punishment as a whole in this story, it's not necessarily the focus, and in my opinion, it's used more sparingly as the story progresses. However, I appreciate your thoughful opinion on the subject. It's touchy. I agree. And I find it rather refreshing to have a reviewer point certain things out to me without being nasty. So thank you. And thanks for the wonderful compliment on this story in general. :) What if Voldemort had marked Harry intentionally? Arousing the anxieties of either side desperate to claim him for its own, Potter could care less about their power struggle--until fate plays sleight of hand to his expectations, forcing the young street magician to take a personal interest in the outcome...

Author's Response: The Venerable Aged Author congratulates Kelsey on her positive reception of the story, and hopes Kelsey shall continue to give such accurate accessments of fiction (viz. 'brilliant') in the future. The VAA must now confess she has never read Pratchett, and never finished 'Hitchhiker's Guide' due to its soporific effects. Chagrined pause. Having confessed the latter, the author shall apparate off before her readers stop gawping and shooting Avadas her way.. |
