Reviews For Harry and His New Family
Yes, Severus lost his temper and he shouldn't have, but I can see where he was coming from. Parents aren't perfect. --his
I'm not going to say the spanking wasn't deserved. It was not controlled, but it was deserved. Part of Harry's healing process is learning that he should value himself and his life and getting a spanking for trying to brew and drink a deadly potion would warrant that. I do not think, however, that he should have much else for punishment. This kid is an emotional mess. He has been forced to do so much stuff over the last few weeks and can't control any of it. He can't even control his own body with these panic attacks! I saw you mentioned you worked with kids like this. I think that's really a good thing. I'm one of those kids, but if I had this life that poor Harry has, i'd probably run into the forbidden forest yelling "come get me i'm here" in hopes of being stomped to death by a Centaur. I mean jeez, this kid just needs a break. I don't blame him for wanting his holiday break free. and I know you said he was just assuming, but Harry is an abused child, he should not be expected to just come out and ask questions about his future so quick after his abuse. For some people, it's 5 years and they still feel insecure and assume things about their life. He's only 13, the same age I was when I was taken away from my home too, it's natural to do some (very) stupid things in order to please the new people you are staying with so they won't "hate" you, as i'm sure you've seen with where you work. I just think they're too hard on Harry. Now is not the time to punish and be stern, now is the time to reassure and address issues both physically AND emotionally. I'm not saying he should get away with everything he does, but they have got to find a common ground for this stuff. And it doesn't help an abused child when so many people (Albus, Minerva, the twins, Alastor and Poppy) are involved with his everyday life. It has to be embarrassing for him. They know when he's in trouble and being punished and what he did wrong, it's too much. He already has these two parents he's learning to deal with, and two healers...and Albus alone needs to take a few calming droughts (as well as Poppy). Abused children don't want people in their business all the time, they want privacy. Ok, i'm going to stop ranting. I feel really strongly about this topic, and i'm sure you could imagine why. It's probably not a good idea for me to read a story about an abused kid if I feel so strongly about it lol. But, I think i'm placing the blame on you. Hey! Your the one that wrote such a good story! You actually have people arguing with you on your story and "poor Harry's" treatment! lol that means you are a fabulous writer! Your absorbing us into your story, tsktsk, i've literally been laying in bed all day reading your story! loool Author's Response: Wow! Longest review I ever got. Thank you! I have seen so MANY stupid parents. Parents that deny abuse, parents who are abusers, parents who demand too much of their children.... Severus and Ivy are just human and make mistakes. I'm sorry that you have been abused and I can see that you identify yourself so much with Harry. It's totally understandable that you suffer with him due to some wrong decisions of Ivy and Severus. Always remember this story doesn't show a perfect treatment for abused chidren. It's just like real life; never perfect! Thank you for your praise. It means a lot to me!
As a parent, I have been guilty of handing out a few swats in anger of something idiotic my kids have done. Severus was so worried about Harry, and I'm sure so exasperated with the fact that Harry still didn't understand that he is forever and always unconditionally loved. Yes, his punishment was harsh, but in no way was it abuse. I am glad that he apologized to Harry, though. I'm sure if he ever feels the need to spank Harry again, it will be in a much more controlled way. Anyway, loved the chapter. I'm anxious to see how Ivy deals with both Harry and Snape. Author's Response: Thank you very much for your review!
hope you update soon! :D Author's Response: Thank you very much for your review!
I can understand where Harry is coming from but I can also see that he is operating under a lot of misconceptions. Excellently written! Bravo! Author's Response: Thank you very much for your review!
I can only repeat what Elfwyn said: Please give Harry's caretakers some common sense and a bit more compassion for Christmas. Author's Response: There have been passed some time since the hidden marks and you don't even know what Severus and Ivy did in that time to assure Harry what is important and what not. Next chapter you will hear more about it. And again I can only say that Severus and Ivy are just human. They make mistakes and learn from them. Some things from your past will always influence you as much as you try to change. Therefore this was the way Severus reacted as impulsive as he did. Teachers and educators often are the worst parents. At least that's what my friends, who had teachers or educators as their parents, tell me. I must say I like Severus and Ivy like they are with their little mistakes. Many kids would be happy to have parents like them.

For smart people who have been around children for years they don't seem to know them very well. As well they might be caring for Harry's physical health but they don't seem to care much for his mental one. Please give your healers, teachers, and the Snapes some common sense and a bit more compassion for Christmas. Author's Response: Who said that Harry had to study all the time and especially on Christmas holiday? It's just what Harry assumed! There have been passed some time since the hidden marks and you don't even know what Severus and Ivy did in that time to assure Harry what is important and what not. Next chapter you will hear more about it. And again I can only say that Severus and Ivy are just human. They make mistakes and learn from them.
