Reviews For Harry Potter and the Potions Professor
Author's Response: Thank you! Glad you're enjoying it! I'll try to post the next chapter within a day or two.
Author's Response: Thank you again! I'm really glad you like "Potions Professor"! I have a few quibbles with canon, but for the most part I love JKR's books, and I really wanted to explore what might have happened if Severus and Harry had learned to get along, at some point. I have to say that I truly thought she might be setting up some kind of reconciliation between them when she had Sev teach Harry Occlumency (or attempt to) in the fifth book. So much of Severus' hostility towards Harry is because he confuses Harry with his father. Of course, he knows that they are two separate people, but he's so blinded by his hatred for James that he sees Harry as being a miniature version, with all of James' flaws. I always thought that if Severus could be made to see that he was wrong, that Harry really wasn't spoiled and conceited like Severus assumes, that they might could have a better relationship. I really would have liked to have seen that happen, so I decided to try writing it myself. Well, thanks again, and I hope you'll continue to read and enjoy!
I really like the way you have had the relationship develop between Harry and Severus. You set up the big change in Severus in the very first chapter when you had Dumbledore observing Severus and wondering if anyone else saw the hurt behind the mask - and showing how tender Severus can be with wounded Dumbledore. This keeps Severus from seeming OOC when he opens his heart to Harry - and once he has, becomes fiercely loyal, protective and caring. I love it! Keep the great chapters comin'! Author's Response: Thank you! There'll be more about Hermione's problems in the next chapter or two. I'm so happy you like how Severus and Harry's friendship has developed. I do think that Severus is decent at heart, and that a lot of his problems stem from his own abusive past and the fact that he never really learned to relate well to people. But yes, he is very loyal and commited once he's opened his heart to someone. I will probably try to write one more chapter on my new story "Slave Child", just because it's new and I'd like to get a little more written on it, and then write a couple more chapters on "Potions Professor." I hope to update "Slave Child" by the weekend, and then get back to "Potions Professor" by the first of next week.
Author's Response: Thank you so much!
But the living arrangements working out is so nice for both. And I loved that Severus complimented Harry on the progress of the DA. Really great interaction chapter and it goes without saying (though I will anyway) can't wait for the next! Author's Response: Thank you! Glad you liked it...Harry and Severus are great together now, and Harry did do a wonderful job with the DA...I'm still kind of surprised that Rowling didn't make Harry a Defense professor. I really thought that's what she was foreshadowing in OotP, and I still think that career suits Harry better than an Auror. But oh well,...
Author's Response: Thank you so much! You'll find out what's happening with Hermione in the next chapter!
Finally!! It's the weekend! YAAY! Ok, from the top... I'm glad the new living arrangements are working out just fine, but really didn't expect anything less than that. I'm also glad that Occlumency and Potions are still proving difficult for Harry to master...and that he's exceeding in his other subjects. It was nice of Ron and Hermione to accept Harry's situation and feelings towards Severus, like true friends!! And shame on Ron for continuously bringing up Severus' past treatment of Harry...although it is good to know that it truly is in the past now. Poor Seamus...loosing points for Gryffindor! Good Job Severus staying pleasent with the DA kids...it was a nice chance for them to see how much he has changed and accepted Harry. It is sad that the war has escalated to such an extent, but it's also a good thing that the kids in Hogwarts realize what's going on and are preparing accordingly, even if it is a battle. I really appreciate how in-character you keep Harry. I think his constant berating of himself for the death of Sirius is extremely accurate (at least with my version of Harry). And it's wonderful for Severus and Harry to have those moments after such a horrible dream...*sigh* Harry's half-conscious thoughts about Ron, Hermione, and himelf teaching were wonderful as was Severus' praising Harry on how much the DA learned last year...I blushed with the praise too! Poor Hannah, though. Is her mom's death canon? I can't seem to remember...and why does one-third of goldeness have to leave!? NOOOO!!! HERMIONE!!!! Please update soon! I can't wait to read more and hopefully I'll not miss this one, either! Author's Response: Thank you! I'm glad you like Occlumency and Potions still being Harry's weak spots...I figure first of all, everyone has strengths and weaknesses, that's only realistic. Also, I'm trying to build up to a moment where Severus and Harry will have to confront Severus' past treatment of Harry, and so I needed to show that in some ways, Harry's still affected. It's not that he's consciously resentful or scared, but it's also not a coincidence that Occlumency and Potions are the two things Sev tried to teach him back when the two were enemies. Harry was told over and over again that he was no good at those subjects and he's got a real mental hang-up about them now. Yes, I think Harry will struggle with feelings of guilt over Sirius' death for a long time...it's slowly getting better, compare this nightmare with the first one I wrote when Sirius was telling Harry that it was all his fault. Now Harry just sees it happen, but Sirius isn't blaming him. It's a small step. But the death of a loved one is something that affects a person for the rest of their life. I am so happy for Harry's sake though, that Severus is there for him. That's what will help Harry heal more than anything. I enjoyed writing the little snippet with Harry, Ron, and Hermione being professors. I can't write real humor to save my life, but maybe I can put in a little humorous touch now and then. Maybe the professors dream could be foreshadowing, too... Yeah, Mrs. Abbott's death is canon, it's mentioned at some point in HBP, and all questions about Hermione will be answered in the next chapter or two. Thanks again! *You'll never believe me when I say I'm not going to post anytime soon, after "Slave Child", will you? But I started writing and got carried away!
Author's Response: Thank you so much! I'm glad you liked everything!
I enjoyed that chapter a lot. I especially enjoyed Sev comforting Harry after his nightmare. Very sweet. And I couldn't help laughing about Harry's dream and Ron's..."it's all rubbish anyway" with the divination lesson plans. LOL It was fun to see the DA session as well. Good to see Sev is staying nice Sev during the lessons. Oh, and I liked that Hermione and Ron talked to Harry to make sure he was okay living with Sev. Okay, my review was a bit jumbled. Loved the chapter though! :o) Author's Response: Thanks, OE! I didn't have any trouble following your review, so it's not too jumbled! About Hermione, well all will be explained in the next chapter or two. She and Ron are such good friends, I thought they'd be concerned about it Harry is dealing with things all right and want to help him if he needed it. Glad you liked the DA! For some reason, I was a little nervous about writing that part. And all the little Harry and Sev moments are wonderful to write.
Author's Response: *laughs* Okay...go to class already! Thanks! |
