Good boy Snape! Lol, The Olculemecy lesson was great to read about! I enjoyed this chapter very much!

Author's Response: So glad!  I love those Occlumency scenes.  They are really fun!

Ok, I'm back!! YAY for Christmas Break, because that means MORE FANFICTION (especially now that the site is back up, YAY again!!)

Ok, so some more things to add... Out of curiosity, what does “Paro lemma solvo” mean? Snape says this after Harry creates the image of his dementor cloud and succesfully buries his memories within its murky confines. It is this spell that then causes Snape's flames to ignite Harry's image, correct? I was just wondering...now back to the story!

I love how you can see Severus' parentalness coming through here in this chapter, even. I love that he's becoming concerned with Harry's safty on a more personal level, although that's perhaps more Chapter 18 than here...and at least Severus is able to keep a level-head about Harry's abilities. It would be too out of character for him to tell Harry all about Draco and his plans, despite his lacking knowledge and skill in the field of Occlumency just because Harry is his son. Great job of characterization throughout the chapter, it was perfect!

I especially love how you portray Dumbledore...no words can describe how great it is...not entirely cannon, but believable, nice and grandfather-ish, and yet still extremely manipulative...ok, so there are words..

I do wonder what this "edge" that Severus speaks of is that Harry has against Voldermort...*sigh* I'm getting all the fics that I've read mixed up now. I'm going to have to re-read yours. *excited squeal* I'll go do that now...good luck with Chapter 19! And Happy Weekend!

    Author's Response:

LOL.  You're hilarious, reviewing this!  "Paro lemma solvo", was a spell to dissolve Harry's shield.  Snape was guiding him through raising and lowering his shield, but Snape was basically doing all the real work and Harry was just along for the ride.

This chapter was mostly about Severus keeping his earlier promise to himself to try for Lily's sake and not to let Harry or himself leave in a huff again.  And, yes he is very concerned about Harry being able to defend himself against the Dark Lord, and not only to save the wizardiing world or because he makes a promise to protect Lily's son...but becuase Snape is beginning to have genuine feelings for Harry.  A huge step for him.

Thanks for the compliment on characterizations!

I really see Dumbledore as much more manipulative than he is in the books.  I just like him better that way.  As if he really does care about Harry but he also has a pretty powerful agenda as well.

Oooh, you noticed the 'edge' comment.  Beautiful.  :o)  I love it when people notice little random, though important tidbits.  You'll have to keep wondering though, as we're not quite ready to reveal all just yet.  LOL

Thanks and the next chapter is in process but as I'm still with my family on vacation, it is still taking longer than usual.  Plus, I got a surge of inspiration for my What if? story so I've been writing chapter 3 on that as well.  Sigh.  LOL.

Excellent characterization and dynamic between Snape and Harry. It's nice to see them warming up to each other in a way that doesn't sacrifice believability.

On a personal note, I read your bio with interest. It's always a pleasure to see another mom in HP-fanfictionland. Although, I suspect there are more than a few of us around. I mean really, can you imagine a group more deserving of a break from reality than mothers of small children? lol...I can't...

Thanks again for the story and have a great Christmas. :-)

    Author's Response:

Thanks so much.  It's nice to hear that'll I'm keeping them real!  LOL

And, of course it's great to "see" another mom around here.  Though, you're right...there are quite a few of us around.  I've gotten to know some awesome moms through reviews and emails all of fandom.  It's been cool.  I agree to that this break from my mom life is much needed.  :o)

Thanks for the review and I hope you keep enjoying the story.  Happy Holidays to you as well!

Wow...let me take a few moments to absorb all that!...ok, that's enough!!

This was just brilliant! I can't say anything that other reviewers have, however...but perhaps through my mindless ramblings of a review I'll get to something meaningful.

I love your different take on Occlumency, it's described really well and makes sense. Or, as much sense as Harry can make of it! But, it's good to be in his mind, and I enjoyed it immensly! Hopefully, though, you let him gain further insight into the "Dementor Storm" I don't actually know if anything else could be said, but perhaps Hermione could add her two-cents worth. I think it's an interesting development! Must agree with the punch to the stomach as Severus learns that Harry told Hermione, Ron, and Ginny. *oof!* This really was an emotional rollarcoaster! And I love rollarcoasters...especially the emotional kind, and the ones that go upside-down!!

Harry's fit of rage and Snape's retorts were perfectly spelled out! I wish I could argue as well as the two of them! It was really great of Severus to calm down enough to finish their lesson, especially since it took a lot for him to do so. Luckally Harry saw the importance and now knows what to expect, at least a little, and was willing to continue as well. Hopefully, they'll be able to make more progress in future lessons with their relationship.

I also enjoyed Severus' reaction to Harry not liking all the attention from the wizarding world. It's always a great moment when Sev finds out that his son isn't as pompus and attention-seeking as he thought. Oh, yes, and I love how Severus was keeping tabs on all of Harry's activity through the years...does that mean that he was at least a little concerned for his safty, above wanting to keep the one hope for the wizarding world alive to kill Voldemort? Hopefully so, although I realize it's hard to not listen to people talking about Harry Bloody Potter and block them out...

Alas, I've run out of time, I've go to leave this depressing establishment of a dorm room and go home!! YAY!! But, I will finish later...

Enjoy your holiday and don't work too hard!

    Author's Response:

Don't worry, I love your rambles, and they certainly aren't mindless. You always give me tons to think about.

I'm so so happy you enjoyed the Occlumency.  I spent almost two days trying to get that part exactly how I wanted it but as soon as I did, the rest of the chapter just sortas flew from my fingers.  Kinda like, all my own thoughs had been sucked underneath Harry's storm.  LOL  Oh, and don't worry, Occlumency (as I'm sure you've alread seen with Snape) is a big part of this story.  I just really love the idea of it.

This chapter did have some violent ups and downs, yeah.  It was really fun to write so much tension and release between these two, as if they were trying to unleash the past five years of hurt, anguish and anger in just one evening!  Glad you liked the first 'oof' of Snape finding out Harry had told his friens, but at least he had already told them.  Hee hee...that would have been a lot more unpleasant otherwise (hmmm...is that even possible?).

They have lots more lessons to continue on with and some fun outside of Occlumency training as well.

I do love Severus having to take a deep breath and step back to see Harry in a new light, just like with the "wizarding world" comment.  He's sure got a lot of learning to do about his son.

I think it was more of a case of Albus keeping Severus informed, against Sev's wishes, though I also believe that even through all Severus' anger, hatred and bitterness, deep deep down under his inpentrable wall of fire, he still had some inklings of feelings for Harry bloody Potter.  :o)

YAY that you get to go home.  Have a great holiday.  And, don't worry, I'll enjoy my holiday and I definitely don't consider writing this story work as I've already got about 1000 words done with Chapter 18 plus a sizable chunk of my What if? story (chapter 2) done as well.  I just can't help myself.  :oP  Thanks so much for your reviews.  You and the others who take time to write so much really inspire me.  In that spirit, I'm off to help Severus get over some of his recurring jealousy.  *hints*  :o)

“Voldemort and your mother killed my mum and I’m standing right here, Snape!”

I completely loved that and oh so true! But of course Severus didn't listen to the important part of it. Well maybe he did file it away for later.

And that last bit, where Severus makes sure Harry doesn't leave without an apology. That's progress right there, ladies and gentlemen.

Thanks for the lack of cliffhangers! I hope you have a great Christmas and holiday!

    Author's Response:

YAY!  That line was one of my particular favorites.  It was just so much fun.  Harry really has a temper, doesn't he?  But, wow can he get to the heart of matters while in those fits of rage.  LOL

I think maybe you're right...Severus probably saved that little tidbit for later. Or maybe, he heard him loud and clear and that's why Harry didn't leave for the fourth or fifth time in a fit of temper.  :oP

Yep, progress.  Slow but sure.  Severus is doing all right, I think.

Happy Holidays to you as well and you're very welcome for the no cliff hangers.  I wanted to so bad after Snape through down that box of Floo Powder but I just can't be mean only days away from Christmas!  LOL

Wow! This chapter was a bit like being on a see-saw. Emotions up, emotions down. Emotions up, emotions down. I'm glad things ended on a semi-positive note.

I really liked your occlumency lesson and the explanation of the shield. Harry's shield is perfect. It makes me sad to think of how different things would be if Snape had actually tried to teach Harry properly last year and Harry had actually listened. I think Dumbledore was asking way too much of both of them, though.

Speaking of Dumbledore, the man is absolutely maddening, isn't he? His unshakeable calmness is infuriating. And his meddling truly annoying, to say the least. But, he definitely adds character and plot to most stories.

Loved the chapter. I hope you have a very Merry and blessed Christmas.

    Author's Response:

Yep, emotions were all over the place though Sev's were neatly tucked away in his mind.  Sigh.

I know...it is hard to take how things would have been if only Severus had done what he was supposed to do last year.  He must have a lot of guilt about that, seeing as he did how much Harry blames himself for Sirius.  Oh, the angst.

The Occlumency part of the lesson was so hard to write at first but then, once I got started, it all just kind of poured out.  It was fun. Glad you liked it so much.

Dumbledore is quite annoying, yes.  I think though, in the end you'll appreciate him.  And as you see, Severus tolerates him very well considering what he suspects Dumbledore kept from him for 15 years. Hmmm....wonder why that is?  :oP

Happy Holidays to you as well.  Thanks so much for your awesome reviews!

You are trying to drive me insane, aren't you? ;-P

Yes, I did notice the abundance of cliffhangers. I told myself, "She did mention she was going out of town for the holidays so how better to torment us all than to set a record for the number of cliffhangers in one chapter and have to go for DAYS without another update." If I hadn't adored the chapter so much I would have sent you a fruitcake in punishment.

So it starts out all nice and happy (well, maybe not happy because Severus doesn't do happy, but you know what I mean). But their first lesson is going okay. And then:

"And then Snape’s features sharpened. “You told your friends,” he accused and instantly all of Harry’s ease vanished."

Doh! I got punched in the stomach! I knew Snape would find out and not be happy about it, but naturally you lulled me into this nice beginning to the chapter and I had to stop reading and sit back for a moment before reading again, because my stomach hurt.

    I loved this:

“He didn’t take anything!” Harry shouted right over him. “Voldemort and your mother killed my mum and I’m standing right here, Snape!”

Touche, Hary! Severus deserved that retort. Well played.

And Severus knowing so many of Harry's adventures that was completely unknown to Harry....BAHAHAHAHA! As a parent, I just love that.

That odd remark about Draco is intriguing. And what is the memory Dumbledore gave Severus (if that is indeed what it is). Curses woman, do you really have to go away for the holidays? Of course you do....we will just have to wait (impatiently) for your return and I'll have to entertain myself with the HP/OOTP movie in HD that I'm certain I'm getting for Christmas as well as the HP/OOTP XBox 360 game I'm hoping Santa leaves me under the tree.

The last scene was my favorite...I'm so glad that Severus followed Harry and tried to end their meeting on a less irritating note.

Wow, this review was long even for me. If a certain writer wouldn't give me so much to work with this would be shorter, hee hee.

    Happy Holidays!

    Author's Response:

Me?  Driving people insane?  Never.  :o)  Thanks very much for NOT sending me fruitcake though...yech!

I have to say, I did enjoy all the ups and downs of the evening for these two.  Harry starts out all comfortable and light and then things darken, then go light again.  That was great fun!   The pair of them are just so quick tempered though Harry, like Lily (well this Lily anyway) is quick to defuse his temper too so that will help things go a bit smoother at least.

Wow, that's what I like to hear!  Such a great reaction to Snape finding out that Harry had told his friends.  I think you must have a little Harry in you somewhere.  LOL

I'm so happy that you liked that line with, "I'm standing right here, Snape!".  That was one of my favorites as well.  Too bad Snape didn't get what Harry was trying to say...or did her.  :oP

Yeah, Harry is not going to appreciate Snape's odd ability to know about what he is up to, I'll tell you that.

Draco is intriguing, isn't he.  Just what is that boy up to!  You'll just have to wait for more clues, I guess.

Severus is trying really hard.  And, as one of my other reviews remarked, "Harry will follow where Severus leads."  And, that my friends sums up our little Harry perfectly.

I'm so happy you enjoyed the chapter so much.  Enjoy your OOTP.  And, I have already started in on the next chapter, so you just never know....how's that for a teaser!  Have a great holiday.
