Title: Chapter 17: A Different Approach 20 Dec 2007 9:50 am

You are trying to drive me insane, aren't you? ;-P

Yes, I did notice the abundance of cliffhangers. I told myself, "She did mention she was going out of town for the holidays so how better to torment us all than to set a record for the number of cliffhangers in one chapter and have to go for DAYS without another update." If I hadn't adored the chapter so much I would have sent you a fruitcake in punishment.

So it starts out all nice and happy (well, maybe not happy because Severus doesn't do happy, but you know what I mean). But their first lesson is going okay. And then:

"And then Snape’s features sharpened. “You told your friends,” he accused and instantly all of Harry’s ease vanished."

Doh! I got punched in the stomach! I knew Snape would find out and not be happy about it, but naturally you lulled me into this nice beginning to the chapter and I had to stop reading and sit back for a moment before reading again, because my stomach hurt.

    I loved this:

“He didn’t take anything!” Harry shouted right over him. “Voldemort and your mother killed my mum and I’m standing right here, Snape!”

Touche, Hary! Severus deserved that retort. Well played.

And Severus knowing so many of Harry's adventures that was completely unknown to Harry....BAHAHAHAHA! As a parent, I just love that.

That odd remark about Draco is intriguing. And what is the memory Dumbledore gave Severus (if that is indeed what it is). Curses woman, do you really have to go away for the holidays? Of course you do....we will just have to wait (impatiently) for your return and I'll have to entertain myself with the HP/OOTP movie in HD that I'm certain I'm getting for Christmas as well as the HP/OOTP XBox 360 game I'm hoping Santa leaves me under the tree.

The last scene was my favorite...I'm so glad that Severus followed Harry and tried to end their meeting on a less irritating note.

Wow, this review was long even for me. If a certain writer wouldn't give me so much to work with this would be shorter, hee hee.

    Happy Holidays!

    Author's Response:

Me?  Driving people insane?  Never.  :o)  Thanks very much for NOT sending me fruitcake though...yech!

I have to say, I did enjoy all the ups and downs of the evening for these two.  Harry starts out all comfortable and light and then things darken, then go light again.  That was great fun!   The pair of them are just so quick tempered though Harry, like Lily (well this Lily anyway) is quick to defuse his temper too so that will help things go a bit smoother at least.

Wow, that's what I like to hear!  Such a great reaction to Snape finding out that Harry had told his friends.  I think you must have a little Harry in you somewhere.  LOL

I'm so happy that you liked that line with, "I'm standing right here, Snape!".  That was one of my favorites as well.  Too bad Snape didn't get what Harry was trying to say...or did her.  :oP

Yeah, Harry is not going to appreciate Snape's odd ability to know about what he is up to, I'll tell you that.

Draco is intriguing, isn't he.  Just what is that boy up to!  You'll just have to wait for more clues, I guess.

Severus is trying really hard.  And, as one of my other reviews remarked, "Harry will follow where Severus leads."  And, that my friends sums up our little Harry perfectly.

I'm so happy you enjoyed the chapter so much.  Enjoy your OOTP.  And, I have already started in on the next chapter, so you just never know....how's that for a teaser!  Have a great holiday.

This is brilliant! Deffinetly one of the best I've read in quite some time.

Author's Response: Thanks so much!  That's quite a wonderful compliment!  :)

Thank you for another great chapter! Thank you also for your response to all my review concerns. I am so relieved! Now, I'm quite curious as to what role the Malfoys will play. I am so glad they will stay in character! You are right, Snape is noticing and observing Harry more closely and hopefully more fairly.

Love your Lupin and Ginny. That line about Snape being alone for so long was just so sad. What a tragedy for Snape and Harry... Keep up the great work! I really am enjoying this!

    Author's Response:

You're welcome!  Glad you liked it and yeah, Snape is in a pretty sad situation, isn't he?  It's good though that Harry is finally clueing in!  The whole situation is just utterly tragic, but that's the way I love it!  LOL

Ginny and Lupin are particularly favorites of mine.  I just couldn't get enough of them in the books, though they were not in them nearly enough, IMO.  Oh well.  That's what fanfiction is for, I guess.  :)

I'm glad you felt better after I responded to your review.  About the Malfoys, I mean.  The Malfoys have quite a large role here and Draco especially.  Maybe more will be revealed in the next chapter.....although maybe more bits of tantalizing teasers than anything useful.  :oP

Thanks so much for reviewing.  The next chapter will hopefully be up by tomorrow night.  I think you'll enjoy it.  It is chock full of Severus and Harry lovliness!

Ok, last one for this chapter, I promise! I just keep thinking of random parts of the chapter that I forgot to comment on and need to do so...

Letting Harry come to Severus' private quarters was amazingly placed. I also love how Harry was so surprised that he choked on floo powder, I love it!! It was also great for Harry to see a little more of who 'Severus' really is. As well as gaining the knowledge that he never stopped loving Lily...that means that somewhere deeply hidden from view, Ol' Sev never stopped loving Harry either, right?, right? Well, that scene was beautifully done and I still adore how differently Severus is approaching Occlumency Lessons this time around. Ok, I think I'm done now...till next chapter! Happy Tuesday!

    Author's Response:

Don't apologize.  I absolutely thrive on these reviews....it makes me want to jump right into the next chapter.

The Floo choking was fun.  It just seemed so "Harry", you know?  LOL  And, yeah this is a very important moment for Severus to have let Harry in.  The scene with Remus was pivotal.  Even Snape can't deny now that he cares about Harry, after trying to choke Remus to death for what he thought Remus was up to!

And yes, it was very important for Harry to see the physical evidence of Snape's love for his mum.  And here's where it gets tricky....Snape very much, just like with Lily, never stopped loving his little boy.  What he has to realize (and he slowly slowly is) is that Harry, this Harry is the same little boy.  He keeps getting glimpses and trying to tell himself that but he really needs to just GET IT.  It was as if that little son died with Lily that night, he grieved for him as though he had.  Harry Potter, 10 years later when he showed up for the sorting, was not the same boy Sev had lost, in Snape's mind.  Now, he is rediscovering his son.  *snif*.

One more thing...was Snape really NOT tortured that night, or did he just not want Harry to get all emotional and all? Just wondering, eventhough I don't really think that Severus would lie, but he is really good at it...

And Remus, he's just adorable. I want to give them all big hugs!!

    Author's Response:

Well, Snape didn't actually say he wasn't tortured, just that the Cruciatus Curse wasn't used on him.  :oP

Remus is adorable.  I love him.

"I will help you." Perfect ending!! My heart is aching in my chest right now...*sigh* I can't wait to see our favorite boys interact during their fist Occlumency lesson. I just know it's going to be great! Good luck writing it too, hopefully your muse keeps pestering you so we can get another chapter before the Holiday. That would be great!

Another favorite part: "Harry’s mouth fell open, unable to stop himself staring at the bluish-haired woman." LOVED IT!! As well as the conclusion that Severus came to, and I thought you handled it all very well. It was brilliantly played out! Oh, Remus, he's always getting beat up by Snape. I feel sorry for the guy, but at least he's still able to be around Harry and comfort him when it's needed. You're just so great at characterization it's mind-boggling!

Ginny, she's amazing. I'm so glad that she and Harry are having a real relationship here and that we get to see so much of them interacting. And, she's perfect as the one to give advise to Harry, or to explain what Severus' motives are, what he's feeling. She's also really intuned to Harry's feelings and expectations...they're just perfect together! YAY!! More Ginny!!

Umm...this was a really excellent chapter, and as I've said, I can't wait to see what happens with Harry's first (new) Occlumency lesson! Also, hopefully you're able to tie more of those pesky subplots in too. Happy week, and good luck writing!

    Author's Response:

Yay that you liked the last line.  That was fun to leave you all sort of hanging, but in a good way this time!  :)

Remus and Tonks are the best and I would have loved more of them in the books, so I get to treat myself here. LOL

Thanks for being so complimentary.  The characterizations, I think are the most fun.

Don't worry...there'll be lots and lots of Ginny.

    Occlumency is up next.

Definitely a step in the right direction chapter, right? Not that I don't expect them to falter a few times more, but at least it's a bit of progress.

At the risk of repeating myself again and again, I love your Remus. Any thought of a Remus-raises-Harry story after this one is done? How about if we beg you? Just an idea.

I loved the whole scene in Remus' quarters. First, Harry's embarrassment at finding Tonks coming out of Remus' room was priceless. I'm sure he's never stopped to imagine Remus as the type of man to actually have a woman in his bedroom.

Then, Snape's assumption as to why Harry was coming out of Remus' room, without a shirt on even, was so funny. Even funnier was the fact that Harry had no idea what Snape was thinking.

I, too, liked the fact that Snape kept the furnishings that Lily picked out. What a testament to how much he loved her. Very sweet.

Anyway, loved the chapter, as usual. Most definitely the highlight of my day. Thanks so much for sharing.

    Author's Response:

Yes, finally some progress!  Real progress it looks like too.  :o)

Oooh, I would love to do a Remus-raises Harry story.  There are so few of them around...at least that I know of.  Hmmm....ideas, ideas....

The Tonks part was fun to write.  We never really did get to see too much of them together in the books and I had so wished we had.  I love the two of them together.

The part with Snape's assumption was really pivotal for Snape, I think.  Such a strong reaction, that even Snape can't deny (at least to himself) the depth of his feelings for this boy.  And, once Harry stops to think about it, I think it will mean a lot ot him as well.

Now, Lily's stuff was the same sort of pivotal moment for Harry, though he did have some good insights in Remus' quarters.  Now our Harry has proof that Snape never stopped loving Lily.  It really shows that Snape really is capable of more.

Okay, now that my mind is reeling with thoughts of Remus and Harry...I'm off.  Thanks again for reviewsing.

Oh my god, I love Remus getting sprung with Tonks! That was so funny, I've never read that in anything before. And then how casual they both were about it, that was fantastic.

I also really loved when Severus said something about "Your mother". I don't know why really, but that killed me; it felt really personal or intimate or something, It made me happy anyway.

And I also really love the long chapter. It was a great one, I'm very much looking forward to the rest of the Occlumency lessons!

    Author's Response:

Remus does seem the type to be casual about sex, doesn't he? :o)  I love that werewolf, I must say.  And, I love Tonks so the two of them of course had to make an appearance here.  Hee hee.  I have some more plans for the two of them...so glad you enjoyed it.

"your mother"...yeah that was a heart wrencher.  Finally, some movement forward for these two.  That was a pivotal scene in Remus' quarters and then in Snape's own.  Things are looking good.

Glad you liked the long chapter.  I am hoping to get another out before we head out of town for the holidays so I am planning another long one with lots of Sev and Harry.  Occlumency is up next.  Thanks for your reviews.  You're awesome!

Poor Harry having nightmares (again) and thinking HE was seeing Snape tortured. I loved that he ran to tell Remus, and the scene he burst in on with Tonks was hysterical! JK never gave us much with Remus and Tonks (they weren't together and suddenly they "are" together but it's only talked about by other characters) and I'm delighted that you gave us "them" in person.

Can I give Remus just a big old hug? He lets Harry sleep overnight, ("magic wand"....HAHAHAHA!) and Snape jumps to the wrong conclusion. That was a riot! But poor Remus...maybe Tonks can kiss his neck and make it better. ;-)

Can you blame Harry for being nervous resuming Occlumency lessons? Ginny keeps it always in perspective for him. What would Harry do without her.

And Snape's private quarters are decorated with Lily's handpicked furnishings? Sniff, sniff... That Snape brought Harry to his quarters and is talking instead of bullying him is an incredible step in the right direction. I'm liking where this is going.

So I'm thinking I'm feeling some fanart coming your way possibly. There's just a scene that I cannot get out of my head (if you're inclined to like fanart as well as fanfics...).

Thanks for finding time to continue to write great chapters at the holidays.

    Author's Response:

Yes, Yes...I'd love to see some fanart!  That would be totally great.  I've never been offered fanart before!  LOL  I actually really love fanart and would love to see it.  I'm so curious now though, what scene you're thinking of.  Now, I feel like I've been given a cliffhanger!  :o)

I'm glad you liked the Tonks part.  I do have more plans for her.  I just love Remus and Tonks together and that is just another one of the things I wished that we could have seen more of.

Hug away, though I get first dibs for our favorite werewolf.  :)  I'm glad you liked the whole crazed Snape, thinking such things about poor, innocent Remus.  That scene jumped at me before I even began the chapter so I had to put it in.  I loved it.

Ginny is the best, yeah.   I can't get enough of her...and Harry.  Bliss.

Yay that we are finally seeing some moving forward for these two.  I think Severus was very affected by Harry being so okay with Occlumency again, showing him he would trust him, despite everything they have been throught, esecially during the last year.  And, it was very important for Harry to actually witness Snape's love for his mum.

I'm hoping to get one more chapter up before we head out for the holiday this weekend so wish me luck!  And, please yes for the fanart!  I can't wait!
