    Aw... poor guys.

Not sure what Draco's game is, though. Could be he just doesn't want to disappoint Severus, but I'm not entirely convinced...

    Good chapter!

Author's Response: I think that Draco doesn't want to disappoint Sev, but I do think that he is starting to feel a little bad about the way that he's treated Harry in the past. Time will tell at how sincere he is.

I felt really bad for Severus, having to relive that memory, but at least i think Harry has a better understanding now of why he shouldn't drink, or drink to excess. It was a hard lesson, but I think he has learned it.

I also think he's starting to soften towards Sev and want to make him proud of him.

I liked how Draco stuck up for Harry, even if Harry doesn't know what to think of it.

It would be funny if Harry gave Sev a bottlecap!

    Author's Response:

Yeah, it was really difficult for Severus having to relive that, but I think that Harry needed a hard lesson here. Hopefully, he's now learnt his lesson.

I think you're right, he's starting to care for Severus, and wants to please him.

Yeah, I don't know if Draco and Harry will ever be "good" friends, but it would be nice if they weren't at each other's throats all the time.

Could you just imagine Snape's face if Harry actually gave him a bottlecap. I'd love to see that. Hmm...maybe he'll do that as a joke!

Good chapter--I especially liked the description of how they got into the penseive. It was very original and cool.

Harry--STOP GETTING INTO TROUBLE! Good grief! This boy is making me want to pull my hair out! Christmas is coming and I so badly want it to be a good break for Harry, but if he keeps getting into trouble, it's just not going to happen. Grr.

I'm glad Snape and Harry are going to discuss Harry's previous abuse though and I'm glad that Harry finally told someone, even if it was inadvertent.

I look forward to reading more father-son goodness soon!

    -P.G.

    Author's Response:

     Oh thank you!

Don't worry PG. They are going to have a very interesting Christmas (evil cackle, hee hee).

Oh yes, Snape is not finished with the discussion about Harry's past abuse--not by a long shot!

I'll make sure to put in extra just for you!! :)  I love Harry and Snape "talks" too.  I love when they reach this stage, after it has taken so long to get there.

Well, the memory certainly had an impact on Harry...it's to be hoped that impact continues. I know from experience that it like talking to a brick wall when it comes to recommending restraint as far as drinking goes. They all think they are immune to any long term effects. And Harry is so devil-may-care in every other aspect of his life, I would be surprised if he never touches a drink again. And it is definitely the hardest thing of all to restrict yourself to one or two drinks if you are partying and are surrounded by a room full of friends in various stages of inebriation. Still, it is to be hoped the message gets through.

I know what you said about Hermione having to put her responsibility as a prefect ahead of her loyalty to her friends, but I think she (and Ginny) went about it the wrong way. And now she is acting like the wounded party. Ginny is no better. And I am not sure if I was HArry that I would be willing to break the impasse. If they are both happy to continue with the cold shoulder, then I am not sure that I would want to give them a break and crawl back into their good books. Hermione is just a little too self righteous for my taste. And if Harry thinks Ginny is no longer interested in him because his looks have changed, then he should wait and see if she comes to him. No point forcing a relationship that isn't going to go anywhere. If she is happy to stay away from Harry, she can't really care for him very much.

What's with Malfoy? And would that idiot Adams have really attacked Harry again after what happened the last time?

I just find it frustrating that Harry may go running after the pair of them, he will probably say he is sorry and how very wrong he was and Hermione and Ginny will condescend to forgive him in their sanctimonious way. I also have to say that I am not entirely sure that students drinking is the end of the world. As has been stated before...Harry is of age' as is Ron and Hermione is acting as if they are recalcitrant children. Their own suffering (without giving them anything to cure their hangovers) and some detentions should be the end of it, I think. They are hardly the first students to have a drinking party. And telling someone they can't do something is a sure way of making sure they do it again in my humble opinion.

    Author's Response:

Well, I think that Severus is just worried that Harry will folllow in his grandfather's footsteps. Whether he is overreacting or not,  the danger is there and Harry has used alcohol to forget his problems, not just to have a good time, so Severus is worried that Harry is becoming dependant.

Well, I think that Hermione considered all her options here. Okay, so there were students as young as thirteen and fourteen at this party, drinking alcohol and partaking in illegal Muggle drugs. This was not just a case of a few seventeen year olds having a little party and a couple of drinks, there was a very real possibility that one of the younger students, or even Ron and Harry could have put their health, or even their life in danger. Imagine, a third year student, who is way to young to gauge how much alcohol it takes before he ends up in a coma or dying from alcohol poisoning. How would Hermione feel?  And for that matter, how would Harry or Ron feel if something bad happened to younger students, that they are supposed to be role models to.

A boarding school like Hogwarts has to have a strict policy for all when it comes to drinking and drug use. If they allow the older students to drink, but not the younger ones, there is no level of control here. As Severus pointed out, Harry could have gone with his seventh year friends to a pub in Hogsmeade, had a couple of drinks, and he wouldn't have been breaking any Hogwarts rules, but the fact that he exposed younger students to danger through his actions, well that just can't be overlooked.

I do agree that if Severus had of simply told Harry to stop drinking, it would have been ineffective. This is why Severus felt it necessary to let Harry view some of his very painful memories, to bring home the message that excessive drinking can lead to alcoholism and since it's already in the family, Harry is at a higher risk than normal. This is one of the reasons that Severus was careful to tell Harry that he couldn't drink at all, just to try to excercise better judgement, next time around.

First of all, Ginny is not withdrawing from Harry because his appearance has changed, but she does feel a little uncomfortable. It's hard to look at a stranger, and yet know that this is the man that you love. It's a little strange for her to connect the two.  She's not rejecting him, but trying to get used to kissing someone who doesn't look like Harry anymore. There is a shy awkwardness going on here.  It's like they've just started dating.  I don't think that Ginny is really angry per se at Harry, but she is a little disappointed in him, but she really loves and cares about Harry, and if she did squeal on him, it was because she was truly concerned about him.

Anyway, we have to remember that both Severus and McGonagall are very reserved and old school, as are many of the Wizarding parents.  Molly is angry that Ron had totally disregarded the school rules and brought unwanted attention to her family.  Also, she is appalled that Ron, who is also a Prefect, has shown poor judgement and failed in his duties as a role model to the younger students.

First of all, it is irrelevant what you and I would do in the same situation (when my daughter got drunk for the first time, I just let her terrible puking session, and subsequant hangover the next day be her punishment), I have to think how someone like Snape, McGonagall, or Molly would react. Let's face it, Snape has always been a stickler for following the rules, and he is especially sensitive when it comes to Harry getting drunk.  and let's not forget that they were smoking weed as well!

Great chapter. I loved Sev showing Harry that memory. It really brought home to him how serious alcoholism can be, and it's always more impacting when you see something that like from another person.

I hope Harry gets to speak with Hermione and Ginny soon, but that he doesn't get in trouble for it.

    Author's Response:

Thank you. I think that the memory was necessary, even though it was very painful for Severus. But Harry needed to see that to really understand what dangers drinking can lead to.

Well, at least he's going to talk to Ginny, and we'll see how well that goes. Yeah, Severus wouldn't be too pleased if he knew.

Wonderful chapter! It was very brave of Severus to re-visit his past memories, as painful as they are for him, but I think it was a good decision. Showing Harry that memory, letting him actually see the pain and misery that alcoholism can cause a family...I'm sure that was far more effective than just lecturing.

I was so touched by the talk that Severus and Harry had. They have come a long way in their relationship. And I'm glad to see that Harry is really understanding that he needs to be responsible about alcohol, and to see that they both truly care for one another.

I'm glad that Severus is learning a little about the Dursleys, too. Harry may not have to see them again, but the neglect and abuse he suffered during his early childhood has effects on him, just as Severus' past affects him still. To really know and understand his son, Severus needs to know about the Dursleys, and vice versa, too.

The scene with the Slytherins was interesting. I hope Adams will be expelled before he can cause serious trouble...he seems like such a jerk. And Draco used his Slytherin traits to come to Harry's aid, even if it was more for Severus than for Harry himself.

Now I just can't wait to see what's going to happen with Harry and Ginny!

    Fantastic chapter, Pandora!

    Author's Response:

Thank you.  It was very difficult for Severus to explore a part of his past that he had long buried. I think that it's a testament of their burdgeoning relationship  that he is willing to swallow his pride and be willing to face his horrible past to help Harry. That was a very selfless act on his part.  I think that Severus is growing as a person as well. I believe that they've been good for each other, and they've helped each other become better people.

I think that Harry got a really good eye-opener here. I think that he's finally learnt his lesson, and he knows now that Severus is not trying to lord it over him, but is genuinely concerned over Harry's welfare.  I think that Harry is finally learning to appreciate that. Also, Harry had a very warped sense of the effects of alcohol. He tended to minimize the ramifications of the over-indulgence of alcohol.

I think that Severus had an idea of the Dursley's neglect, but just never realised the extent of it. It think that it was really important that Severus knows, because, as you said, it helps bring them even closer because it helps them better understand each other.

Yeah, Adams is a dangerous enemy.  He wasn't so bad before the war, but now he's bitter and feels as though Severus betrayed him and his family. His father was a Deatheater, and is in prison. Of course he blames Harry, and to a certain extent Severus.

Draco is going through a lot of changes right now. He respects Severus, and yes felt some jealousy because of Harry's new relationship with Severus. On one hand, he cares about Severus' opinion of him, but he still harbors animosity that Harry has more or less taken HIS place in Severus' affections. Severus has been working hard though, to show Draco that he's still there for him, and Draco is trying to gain Severus' trust again, and to do so, he must make peace with Harry. I don't believe that they'll ever be best friends, but if they can co-exist without strangling each other, it's a step in the right direction.

I think that Ginny and Harry have a lot of things to work out, and hopefully they can clear the air.   Ginny was a little disappointed in Harry's immaturity in getting sloshed and experimenting with drugs.  Although she understands the pressures that he's been under for the past few weeks, she felt that he excerised bad judgement, and expected more from him. She still cares for him deeply though, and they need to talk with each other and gets some things straightened out before they can grow in their relationship.

Thanks Kristeh. I'm really anxious for a good dose of SC!!! Hopefully soon?

I think this is your best chapter yet. The growing father/son relationship was beautifully depicted in Severus and Harry's talk. And, as always, the characterizations are very well done. I was very happy to see the update notice in my email 's inbox this morning and am looking forward to the continuation of this story. Keep up the great work! Bravissimi!

    Author's Response:

Oh thank you so much. I think that Severus and Harry are finally beginning to understand and care for each other deeply. It was very difficult for both of them to discuss their painful pasts, but I think that it helped their relationship to grow even more.

I really appreciate your encouragement, and it means alot to ME that you took the time to review.

I hope he figures out what happened and the girls accept his apologies xx

Author's Response: Well, the problem is that there might need to be apologies and understanding on both sides.  He is going to be a little hurt as what might be perceived as betrayal if he finds out that Ginny had something to do with McGonagall and Snape finding out about the party, but I think that he might understand their reasoning and get past his feelinss of hurt and betrayal.
