Poor Harry... detention during the hols. Not so good having your father be a teacher at your school, huh?

I have to admit that Severus being fond of his home at Spinner's End threw me; I am so attuned to the fact that Severus loathed his father and his Muggle upbringing so much, he joined the Dark Lord's murderous club.

Also, the picturesque, fairy-tale type village took me aback because the town in which Spinner's End is situated in canon was a northern mill town like Manchester... a town that was once extremely ugly and populous. It is one of the larger cities in northern England. Spinner's End is the name of a street within the town and the houses belonged to mill workers before the mill shut down. It was probably a steel mill; the disused chimney could be seen from Spinner's End.

But this is your story and I will just have to get my head around your changes.

Harry's excitement was infectious though and it is lovely to see him looking forward to this, his first Christmas with a parent... that he can remember anyway.

Is this Susan going to be a love interest for Sev?

    Lesley~

    Author's Response:

Yeah, well Snape will be Snape.

I believe I did say at the beginning of the chapter, and if I didn't, I will rectify that, that I knew that Spinner's End was in an industrial part of town, but I've changed things a bit for the purposes of the story. I wanted Harry to have a home with Severus, but Spinner's End in  Canon, sounded so dreary, and I wanted it to be in a quiet country village instead of the dirty sooty city.

It wouldn't have been much fun for Harry to go to the real Spinner's End, as described in the books for Christmas, in the middle of a busy city. I also know you don't like "Manors" so I twisted things around a bit.  Hope you don't mind too much me playing around with Canon.

No, Susan will not be a love interest for Severus. Perhaps much later, but I really want to focus on Harry and Severus' relationship for now, and there are other events that will be occuring shortly, that I don't want to distract from, with a romance at this point.

Lol, detention even on a vacation of sorts...that just reeks of Snape. I can't wait to find out what the house looks like once it's all cleaned up though. Nice chapter.

    Author's Response:

Yeah, Snape was always one to go overboard, wasn't he? LOL

I think that the biggest thing, is to make this house feel like home to Harry. That is Severus' intention.

Thanks, and good to see you back !!

Great chapter, Pandora. I loved the irony in Sev volunteering to do the dishes only to have Harry scrub cauldrons and such.

Reading this left me wishing Christmas was closer. I love the holiday season from the smell of cinnamon to the fun sparkly stuff in stores. Every week we get more and more winter weather stuff where I work (despite it being in the 80s still), and I just can't wait for the cooler weather, Christmas trees, Black Friday, (Yes, even though I'll have to work it. I love all the great deals) and Christmas itself. :) Oh, and I can't forget Christmas music!

I also love how excited Harry is to fix up Spinner's End. I hope he can get Sev excited, too. I can't wait to see Harry's personal taste in color choices and decor.

    Author's Response:

Thanks Ella, I'm really looking forward to YOUR next chapter.Yeah, that is so a Snapish thing to do, isn't it? Well, he did tell Harry that he would have to serve his detention, so that it would be fair to the others who remained at Hogwarts. The detentions are not much longer anyway.

I know what you mean. I was writing this, and getting all excited! As I was writing about the Christmas trees and the lights, I wanted to go out and get a Christmas tree!  Well, unfortunately it's not 80 degrees here, but it has been warmer than usual for this time of year, but it's really cold at night.

Somehow, I think that Severus is going to get all caught up in it, despite himself.

Wonderful chapter, Pandora! I loved how Severus healed Harry's broken nose at the beginning...poor Harry, he really does have a hard time with wizarding travel, doesn't he?

It was really interesting to meet Susan, who knew both Lily and Severus as children and went to school with them. I bet she could tell Harry some fascinating tales!

I loved all the descriptions, of the village and most of all, of the house. It sounds like a perfect cozy cottage...or it will be one day, lol! I'm like Harry, I can see the potential perfectly in my mind's eye.

I wonder if Harry will ever call Severus 'Dad' or talk with him about how having a father has helped him to care about living again, after the pain of losing Sirius. It just reminds me that, as far as they've come already, there's still a lot to talk about and deal with.

I just love it all, and maybe I'm greedy, but I just can't wait for the next chapter!

    Author's Response:

Oh thanks. Yeah, poor Harry he's not lucky when it comes to travelling the Wizarding way.

Oh, I just thought that it would be interesting to have some stories of Severus and Lily from a third party's perspective.

Yes, when Harry and Severus are finished decorating, Harry will really have a place to call home, and he'll feel that it truly belongs to him because he had a hand in decorating it. Let's face it, Severus is not going to be much help! He'll probably let Harry make most of the decisions.

Well, Harry and Severus are getting closer, but Harry is a little older in this fic than most, so it might be a while yet before he's ready to let go of thinking of James as "Dad", but perhaps as time goes on, he'll feel less guilty about using that term to address Severus, but it's not going to be as easy for him as if he were younger. He sorted of experimented with using the term "Father" to see how Severus reacted, so maybe he'll move to the next level soon.

There are so many issues to deal with, and even though they get on each other's nerves at times, I think that Harry is starting to feel more comfortable with Severus, but again, it's a slow process. Perhaps, the magic of Christmas will work wonders on both of our boys!!

Oh, and your chapter was superb Kristeh, and I want more too!! :)
