I did enjoy the bonding... Sev has come a long way. It's nice to see him loosening up, even if he has to let go by degrees. He has lived as a bitter, angry lonely man for a long time.

Sorry it has taken me so long to read the last two chapters, I have had the alerts filesd though, I just hasd to get enough time.

    Lesley~

    Author's Response:

Thanks. I was really worried that the chapter would be too boring, because nothing exciting happened.  I know Snape's progression to humanity is slow, but it wouldn't be realistic otherwise. As you said, he lived as a bitter, angry lonely man for a long time. I have to remind myself while writing also, that Harry is older in this story than in most, so their relationship and acceptance of each other as father and son, will take a bit longer than in other fics, where Harry is younger. A younger Harry will be much more hungry for a father and a home than an adult Harry would. Although the desire is still there, obviously, there is not the need to escape the Dursleys in this story, so Harry has not been in as much of a hurry as if he had of been younger.

Don't worry about it Lesley. I understand about RL, trust me on that!!

    Good ol' Severus xxx

Susan and Sev interaction was great xx

Author's Response: Oh, thank you. I just wanted Severus to come face to face with his past, and Harry to learn through a third part what his father's life was really like.

"No, it's not Harry, and I just want you to know that--Oh Merlin this is difficult," he said as though he was pulling his teeth, "I am proud to have a Gryffindor son. And if you ever repeat that to anyone, I will deny every word of it."

This is my favorite line in this entire chapter!!!!! It's soooooo Severus!!! Wonderul, wonderful story. I missed being updated on the last two chapters so played catch up tonight. Good to see that Harry and Severus are "coming along" with each other so well......Can't wait for the next chapter. Oh, BTW, Ro is such a PRAT!!!! Poor Monie! Yea Ginny!

    Author's Response:

That was fun to write. I just kept picturing Sev in my mind, fierce look on his face, and gritted teeth...saying those words!

Harry and Severus are starting to understand each other. It's difficult, but they're getting there. Thanks for reading, and I'm glad that you're catching up!

Yeah, Ron is being a rat, and hopefully he'll smarten up before he loses the best thing in his life.  At least Harry is smart enoug not to lose Ginny!

    Hey, Pandora,

It's just me again, but I wanted to say that I don't think Susan is a Mary Sue at all. I think we authors can get paranoid about creating a Mary Sue sometimes, but really there's nothing wrong with having a likeable OC, even one is smart, pretty, and talented.

I think the biggest thing about a Mary Sue, and it's the characteristic that is so annoying to me, is that the true Mary Sue takes the spotlight from the canon characters. It's not the same either as if you write a story with the OC as the main person, but that all the canon characters seem to become hopelessly inept or stupid and the Mary Sue character is always saving the day.

That's what makes a Mary Sue, to me anyway, and Susan doesn't fit at all because she isn't taking the spotlight from Harry and Sev...it's not like she's slaying basilisks and facing Voldemort and winning Quidditch matches while the others stand around and clap their hands in awe, lol.

Author's Response: Aw, you are so sweet. I never really knew before what a Mary Sue was! Thanks for clarifying that for me, and I appreciate your encouragement.

I loved the chapter, Pandora! I really like Susan and think that it's good for Harry and Severus to have a neighbor who is so friendly and welcoming, and perhaps can understand a little of the history. Even though she brings back some painful memories for Severus, maybe he needs to work through those memories rather than burying them in order to be at peace. After all, it's not as if he's been very happy all these years that he has stubbornly tried to forget.

I'm so glad that Severus and Harry are fixing up Spinner's End and making it beautiful. I do love beautiful houses and it's fun to see one that has been neglected and dilapidated being brought to life again. And I love that Harry has a real home now, with his father, and I think Severus will finally be able to consider Spinner's End a true home too. Maybe it will help to erase some of his bad memories.

I loved the conversation about whether Harry should call Severus "Dad" or "Father" or whatever. It shows how close they have become, but that they still have a ways to go at the same time. I do hope that one day they'll both be comfortable with it.

And the ending was just perfect! I loved that Severus finally was able to tell Harry that he was proud of him. I know that means a lot to Harry, and it's good for Severus to open up and not be so closed and guarded all the time.

Lovely chapter again! I just can't wait for the next one!

    Author's Response:

Oh thanks Kristeh.  I hope that Susan didn't come off as a Mary Sue, but I was hoping that it would be a catalyst for certain events to be brought up, like the fact that Peter Pettigrew stayed with Severus, and the fat that she grew up with Severus, and Lilly, and knew James at school. There are some very painful memories that Severus must learn to deal with, and then put out of his mind.  You are right that he's not been happy for many years, and now that he's got Harry, it's time to let go of his pain and regret and move on. H

I'm happy too and excited to wiite about Spinner's End, and the transformations that will take place. It's not about the furniture or the colours that they choose, it's about making a home for Harry and Severus and really becoming father and son.

I think that theis conversation was really important. Harry is very conflicted still about what he should call Severus. He doesn't want to let go of his connection to James though, and rightfully so; afterall, the man died so that he could live. He sacrificed his life because to James, Harry was his son, in all but blood, and was willing to lay down his life for him.  One day, maybe Harry will be comfortable enough to call Severus either "Father" or "Dad".

Thanks, and I thought that it is something that Severus would do; give Harry a compliment but not want to make a big deal out of it.

Thanks Kristeh. It'll be soon  How about you. I NEED SC!!!

I love that last line, lol. That's probably about as sentimental as Sev can get. I'm glad Severus admitted what his problem was to Harry though; I was a bit worried Harry would think something worse was going on than Sev not liking the colors. At least he was clear that his problems did not stem from Harry so that he could stop worrying about it.

Are you planning on doing some Snape and Susan romance, or are you just going to keep them friends in this fic? I don't really mind either way, I'm just curious about where it's going.

Sorry I haven't reviewed for so long; I've been terribly busy with my new job. I'm trying to make my rounds to fanfiction sites, but I'm only reading about half as much as usual these days (and I have written barely anything, which does not bode well for my prompt fest entry). Anyways, always assume that I'm still reading, even if it takes me a while to get back to the fic.

I can't wait to read about Harry and Snape's holiday season. Please update soon!

    -P.G.

    Author's Response:

Severus has trouble admitting his feelings, but his son is the most important thing in his life. So I thought that he should admit it, even if he says it through gritted teeth!! LOL! Snape felt a little guilty himself that perhaps, after telling Harry that this was his home and that he was free to decorate the house as he wished, that his bad mood was giving Harry the impression that Harry's choice of colours, and the fact that he is a Gryffindor, was the cause of his bad mood. He cares too much about Harry now, to allow misconceptions to continue.

After much deliberating, I've decided not to include a romance between Susan and Severus right now. I want to really focus on Ginny and Harry's relationship as well as Harry and Severus' growing father and son relationship. I don't want to distract from that with a romance between Severus and Susan; especially considering that she is an original character. Maybe in the future, but not for now.

I know where you are coming from PG, because I have written only about 200 words of my prompt fest!! My job has been horrible, and I'm on the verge of looking for another one, so I've not been in a creative mood at all.

Thanks for taking the time to review, and I'm so glad that you explained your absence, because I was worried that you lost interest in my stories, and you are one of my favourite writers on here, and I value your opinion.

I'm really anxious to write the holdiay season too! I can't wait to get there. Oh, and I have a lot of surprises in store. Some good, some bad....

     Hee hee, evil cackle!
