Reviews For Life as Dictated by a Talking Hat
We finally have a novel with Albus Dumbledore proving his worth of his titles and authority. Great going
Couldn't help but feel a little bit of sympathy for poor Severus, though. I mean, sheesh, *I* was wincing, and Dumbledore wasn't even talking to me! Great chapter. ^^
I love your Harry. He's strong and has pride. He's very clever and determined, but he's so hurt and needy (though he would probably be furious with me for saying so; he's so determined to hide it). I like that he's open-minded about the houses, and that you're having the other first-years be reasonable about it too (so far...I hope that continues). It's so easy to have Ron become a total prat in a Slytherin Harry tale, so I love that he was more mature and willing here. I'm also really liking Theo and Blaise, and it'll be interesting to see how Draco turns out. The final scene with Severus and Albus was really wonderful. No one can pull a guilt trip like Dumbledore, lol. But Severus needed to hear it...he does have an obligation to Harry, and he is the adult. He needs to act like one and not take his old grudge out on a child. Looking forward to more!
Author's Response: :0) Glad you like. I dunno, about Ron. He reacted the way he did the when he was 11 because it was Malfoy who attacked first, and the prejudice grew as he got older. I dunno if his prejudices as an 11-year-old would have held up had a friend shown him a different opinion. And the Slytherins in canon DON'T talk all that much about family and blood - Malfoy does, but that's about it. That's mostly fanon, not canon. Perhaps I could have shown it a little more, but anyway, this is my first story - I think I get a stronger grasp on things as I go on. (LOL and here I go pulling a JKR and trying to overexplain everything after the fact. Woops)
You've got a really good setup here. It's a bit more original with Harry staying friends with Ron instead of buddying up with Draco right away. I like that. Also, I like how you show Snape's vulnerabilities. I can believe that he while he keeps himself shielded, Dumbledore is the only one who can get to him. It's sad. Poor Snape. But I have to say that Harry most definitely does not sound like an 11-year-old child. He sounds at least 15, if not older. I understand that he's probably had a hard life and grown up quickly, yet his thought process still sounds too old to be believable. But you've got a lot more chapters for me to read, so I'll stick with it! I'm curious to see what's next! Author's Response: Hello!! Thanks for the review!! I'm glad you like the fic so far. I wanted to say that I agree with you completely about Harry seeming a too old, even for the difficulties he's faced, but this was the character Harry wanted to be at the moment (he seems more realistic later, I think.) Hope you continue to enjoy the fic! Thanks again for reviewing! Rhiannan
Author's Response: :-)Thanks! Again, glad you like it!
