Reviews For Life as Dictated by a Talking Hat
Glad Ron is still his friend. And Severus really does nee to remember that he is an adult in a position of authority and not a bullying contemporary of an 11 year old. Author's Response: Yeah, he'll get there. He just gets into "angry 17-year-old" mode when it comes to Harry, at least for the moment.
Author's Response: Hey I never responded to this!! I'm such an idiot. Thanks!! And yeah...I also just like that word. :-)
Author's Response: Why didn't I respond to this right away? W/e I'm an idiot. This review made me really happy. 'Subtle' is hard to achieve, most times. :-)
I felt that Harry is a little too introspective for his character. After reading the books and having basically a blank look at his character, this very detailed introspective Potter seems out of character. I much prefer reading from Snape's point of view. i am enjoying your story and am looking forward to the meeting between Snape and Harry! :) Thanks for sharing this story with us! Author's Response: Thanks a lot! rnrnHarry is OOC on purpose - I've changed his past life pretty radically and so couldn't leave his character the same, even if I wanted to. My Harry is also a very private character, slow to trust and with a lot to hide, and so in order to give any insight onto who he is I've made him introspective.
I like that you haven't turned Ron against Harry and that not all of the Snakes are against Harry having a Gryffie friend. I'm adding this to my Faves so I can keep up with your story. Thanks for sharing it with us. Author's Response: Thanks! I'm enjoying it so far, too!
I'm looking forward to the next chapter. I really like that this is an original take on the whole mentor thing. Harry is not just sitting around taking the Snape's abuse, he's fighting back. Nice work. Author's Response: Yeah, Harry's a fighter. LOL. It's gonna cause him some problems, though...
Anyways, I'm so glad Harry’s still friends with Ron! I love the Weasleys, and often when Harry is re-sorted in fanfics he unfortunately loses his friendship with Ron. I hope all of Harry's friends can continue to get along (though I‘m sure issues will arise), so far they’re trying and that's a good sign :) I wonder about Hermione and how she’ll fit in though…? Author's Response: Yeah I sorta like making Sev miserable, sorry...Don't worry, things get better. rnrnI also like Ron and his family. I don't buy that Ron would be so disloyal to a friend just because he made friends with Snape/Malfoy or got sorted into Slytherin. I have reasons for needing Fred and George on Harry's side, too. Don't worry, Hermione'll get in there - in Canon, the four aren't really friends until Halloween, after all.
Author's Response: Thanks for your comments! You're the first person to give me concretes to fix. I'll get to those in the next couple of days. (The once I decide to change - I'm undecided about some because I don't think the specific dates matter too much to the story.) Beevus and Butthead I'll definitely change, though. Could you suggest an alternative? The computer thing is another point. I think Harry'd know about tv shows, just from hanging around others his age, but just because I was familiar with early windows doesn't mean Harry'd be familiar enough to joke about BSODs. Finally, any suggestions for how to make Harry sound younger? I figure he's grown up fast, given his environment, (and he acts a little older than 11 in canon, too, in my opinion) but I do want to make him at least a little childish. I'm just not good at writing kids, I guess.
- Beavis & Butthead, besides being a strongly american phenomenon, wasn't being aired until 1993. - BSOD didn't come into existence until Windows 95NT, thus 1995. - We know that Harry's first year in Hogwards was 1991. - How in seven hells is Harry knowing all that, neither watching TV, nor having a PC of his own? I doubt primary schools had those either. - Harry just sounds too teen for being 11 years old, sorry( Author's Response: Thanks for this. I followed many of your suggestions. :-) |
