Wonderfully written chapter (as always). I absolutely love the tension that's growing between these two characters. It's realistic and works perfectly in your verse.

But, moreso, it makes me quite eager to see this tension dispelled.

Either Harry's gonna end up worked ragged or he's gonna give up on his revenge. I don't really see the latter happening, however...

Dude, I could so use some of that salve, sometimes.

    Awesome chap.

Well, I think I am done with this story. While you seem to think that hitting a child is wrong, aparently is is fine to work them to the bone. Lets see, Harry was cleaning Snape's office for 3 hours(at 5:15 in the morning no less when he didn't get out of detention until 10:00. that is less than seven hours of sleep and for a CHILD), then three hours doing more hard manual labor, then another three hours doing lines. That is a total of 9 hours of work in one day, 6 of it being hard physical work. Except for hitting him (which Snape has already promised as a punishment for disobeying one of his rules), Snape is EXACTLY like the Dursleys. Tell me how in the WORLD Snape's punishments can't be considered abusive. The fact that he gave him a salve to relieve the injuries he CAUSED certainly doesn't redeem his atrocious behavior. I really hope you don't have kids if you think that treating them this abusively is perfectly correct behavior.

Author's Response: I apologize for not having done the calculations, as that does seem harsh, but I would also point out that this is SNAPE we're dealing with. Since when is the Snape of canon a totally nice and reasonable guy? Part of the story is him learning, too. If you read on, you would know that Snape changes his mind on a lot of things as he gets to know Harry better. And there's no need to be nasty. This is a fic. My mistakes in writing hardly make me a bad parent.

This genre-- Harry is a Slyterin AU-- doesn't have immediate appeal for me, but I'm really enjoying this story. This Snape seems particularly intelligent and observant, which I love. He's also calculating and manipulative, but not to a extreme degree-- he still acts from emotion and makes mistakes. It's a very human characterization-- both competent but with normal failings. Harry also seems intelligent, but imperfect, with the short-term planning of an 11 year old.

Thank goodness for that salve at the end (not to mention Snape moving when asked). With all the punishment, I was wondering when he was going to get around to offering some incentive to trust him. The line writing is somewhat positive, but I know as a child, I wouldn't have beleived it for a minute (and my childhood wasn't anywhere near as difficult). I'm looking forward to the next chapter.

Author's Response: Thanks!! No, Harry certainly won't believe it (or anything Snape says) for awhile, but he'll get there. Snape's doing his best, but doesn't know how to get past Harry's misbehavior, I think. Who knows, maybe he'll loosen up a little? I honestly don't know - he hasn't told me, yet, either!

This was a great chapter. I loved the bit with the farm animals. I'm glad you are taking your time with this. Too many stories have Harry get over the abuse quickly. It's something he'll have with him for a long time. He wasn't loved as a little boy, so he isn't likely going to trust many adults. You have that in this story, which is good. I like how your slowly building up the trust.
Are Theo and Blaise going to be helping Harry save the Stone?

Author's Response: Thanks so much! Yeah, I wasn't originally gonna take it this slowly, but I now I've gone through 8 chapters and not even gotten to Halloween yet! No way Harry's going to warm up in less than a month! It's looking like it's gonna be a really long fic, though, since I want to get through all of first year by the end and there's no way I'm gonna abandon it before it's done. I already have plans for a couple random scenes in other years, too, so with any luck there'll be a sequel eventually! About the Stone - that will depend entirely on what happens before, and I don't plan nearly that far ahead. They're as important to Harry (if not more) than Ron and Hermione, though, so they'll likely be involved somehow! (I can't imagine Theo knowingly staying behind, little idiot that he is, can you?)
