Reviews For Life as Dictated by a Talking Hat
Author's Response: Thanks! LOL working on it! Next chapter things should pick up a bit.
Author's Response: Thanks. Yeah, Harry was totally asking for it. Not his brightest moment, I must say. Glad you liked it. :-)
Author's Response: Thank you! Yup, baby steps. Hopefully next chapter things will pick up a bit on that front. I'm glad you like Kallie. She's looking to be a (relatively) major character in this, just 'cause I like her, too. She reminds me a bit of Mrs. Weasley, if you turned her into a house-elf. Ewwww Chinese exam. I'll let you know how I do :-)
Author's Response: Thanks!
Severus' s punihsment was fair after all he warned Harry to quit swearing at him. I for one would have been dead if I had ever used such words in front of my teacher--my parents were very big on respecting teachers. That potion reminded me a little of the Snape 'mouthwash' in my Angel fic, it sounded so disgusting, and the way harry got water all over, was funny! And so was the part with The Holy Grail line--"I don't want to go on the cart!" That part is one of my favorites! That and the coconuts and the pigeons. LOL! The last part was great too, with both of them trying to hide their humor at Snape's remark! Author's Response: Thanks!! BTW, I should probably give you some credit for the yucky potion concept - I'd read your fic when I wrote this, so it probably influenced me. I'll add it to the chapter notes. :-) Yeah I like the little last bit, too. It was fun to write. :-)
Author's Response: Yup confusion all around! (Except maybe Kallie, she seems to know exactly what she's doing) :-)
Author's Response: Thank you!! That makes me feel better. :-)
Author's Response: Thanks!! It'll be a little while - I've got a week of studying, then a week of exams to get through before I get anymore real free-time. 'Till then I'll be squishing writing into my breaks. :-(
I can see trouble up ahead with Kallie and the blouse, though. Well done! Dancingkatz Author's Response: Thanks! Yeah things will get interesting with Kallie. I personally am quite pleased with my first entirely non-canon character. :-)
The Sev/Harry part is great, but the plot in this section doesn't quite finsh it's arc (like the Kallie section), perhaps that's why it feels somewhat unsatisfactory? Maybe because this level of consistant discipline and rebellion is just awkward for everyone? Harry is distrustful and pushing at boundries; Snape has to follow through everytime with all of his rules and punishments. The tempering part of this kind of interaction (I believe) is some level of emotional connection, which Snape is avoiding. Dumbledore (or Poppy) show some kindness and compassion. Realistically, this is more difficult for Snape, who may feel very strongly about maintaining his authority. Still, he seemed jealous of Harry's connection to Poppy, and he saw the difference between his behavior and Poppy's. The next step is to be nice, offer some positive-- praise, information, a reward, etc. And yet, their relationship started out so negative, maybe Sev is right, though to wait. Harry is so suspicious, they have to build back to feeling neutral. Author's Response: Hi! Thanks for the review! Yes, Harry has Hedwig - I mentioned her in the first or second chapter (after the prologue.) You're right that I should mention her again, though. I agree with you that the plot arc seems a little unfinished. Oh, well. Once I have another chapter out that won't matter so much. Yeah, Snape needs to figure himself out. He seems to have NO clue what to do with a kid outside of a strict teacher-student relationship. I don't think Harry would react well to Snape being affectionate in any way at this point anyway, though, so, as you say, maybe it's for the best. They'll get it figured out. |
