Reviews For Life as Dictated by a Talking Hat
I'm looking forward to the next chapter. I really like that this is an original take on the whole mentor thing. Harry is not just sitting around taking the Snape's abuse, he's fighting back. Nice work. Author's Response: Yeah, Harry's a fighter. LOL. It's gonna cause him some problems, though...
Anyways, I'm so glad Harry’s still friends with Ron! I love the Weasleys, and often when Harry is re-sorted in fanfics he unfortunately loses his friendship with Ron. I hope all of Harry's friends can continue to get along (though I‘m sure issues will arise), so far they’re trying and that's a good sign :) I wonder about Hermione and how she’ll fit in though…? Author's Response: Yeah I sorta like making Sev miserable, sorry...Don't worry, things get better. rnrnI also like Ron and his family. I don't buy that Ron would be so disloyal to a friend just because he made friends with Snape/Malfoy or got sorted into Slytherin. I have reasons for needing Fred and George on Harry's side, too. Don't worry, Hermione'll get in there - in Canon, the four aren't really friends until Halloween, after all.
Author's Response: Thanks for your comments! You're the first person to give me concretes to fix. I'll get to those in the next couple of days. (The once I decide to change - I'm undecided about some because I don't think the specific dates matter too much to the story.) Beevus and Butthead I'll definitely change, though. Could you suggest an alternative? The computer thing is another point. I think Harry'd know about tv shows, just from hanging around others his age, but just because I was familiar with early windows doesn't mean Harry'd be familiar enough to joke about BSODs. Finally, any suggestions for how to make Harry sound younger? I figure he's grown up fast, given his environment, (and he acts a little older than 11 in canon, too, in my opinion) but I do want to make him at least a little childish. I'm just not good at writing kids, I guess.
- Beavis & Butthead, besides being a strongly american phenomenon, wasn't being aired until 1993. - BSOD didn't come into existence until Windows 95NT, thus 1995. - We know that Harry's first year in Hogwards was 1991. - How in seven hells is Harry knowing all that, neither watching TV, nor having a PC of his own? I doubt primary schools had those either. - Harry just sounds too teen for being 11 years old, sorry( Author's Response: Thanks for this. I followed many of your suggestions. :-)
Author's Response: Thanks!
Author's Response: Thanks so much! I'm so flattered! Don't worry, Dumbledore's actions will be explained in a couple of chapters.
The only thing I noticed is that you need to go back up to the conversation between Snape and Dumbledore and paragraph the conversation, you should have a new paragraph for each speaker. Author's Response: Thanks! I'll try to do the pararaphing better in the future, and maybe fix Snape and Dumbledore when I fix other errors.
Author's Response: Oh yes. I don't think Harry'll be an easy nut to crack. Should be fun. Thanks for the review! :-) |
