I'm terrible about leaving feedback, but as I'm rereading this for the...fourth? time, I just had to stop and say that I absolutely love the discussion Severus and Harry have at the end about bravery vs recklessness, and how sometimes it's neither. I mean, I love pretty much everything about this story, especially the relationship/interpersonal stuff, but I really enjoy these moments of insight into human (and not just Harry's) behavior. Harry's earlier conversation with Remus about virtues and faults is another favorite of mine.

I was actually disappointed about how Snape reacted in this chapter until I thought back and realized just how perfectly in character that would be. He would be more likely to do the above than to cry out and Apparate Harry away even after seeing how horribly he is treated. I applaud you for getting Snape in perfect character.

I must say that this is a lovely first chapter. I tried reading Blood and Choice alone but I found myself clicking the back button somewhere in the middle so that I could read this one first. Now, I'm off to finish the rest of this one and Blood and Choice.

Once more - the sheer amount of information and plot you are able to convey in individual chapters is absolutely astonishing! The characters backstories are given but do not seem blatantly forced regardless of the fact that they are directly told.

I'm quite impressed so far and really enjoying Harry at his Slytherin finest.

And THANK YOU for at least hints of Remus/Severus. It's one of my absolute favourite pairings that doesn't seem to get nearly enough love!!

    Author's Response:

Thank you! I put a lot of thought into distributing revelations and working them into natural interactions. I think that letting conversations end with matters still unresolved and details still untold helps keep them from appearing contrived.

The Remus/Severus backstory continues to be a factor....

Honestly, there's just so much going on here - wonderful characterization, backstory after backstory after backstory, plot and a lot of hints for what's to come! The slow developing relationship between Harry and Severus is honestly something that works well at your pace. The two of them are so pig headed and the way you're working in their growing relationship is extremely well done.

At the same time, the amount of charicterization that you're accomplishing with Lupin - seeing him in a new light via his opinions, dialogue, reaction to Harry's relationship with Severus - makes him an extremely well written character that adds to the plot as a whole. Lupin's 'insight' into how Harry should handle Snape shows another facet of how things can be constrewed if only given certain facts. Harry's frustration with the same problem - with Lupin and other adults as a whole - makes this little bit of irony very well placed and written.

Fantastic story. One of my favorite novel length fanfics of all time. I love how you had Harry embrace his Slytherin side without having him actually switch houses. Also the relationship between Severus and Harry was well done, and had just the right levels of affection. I did like that he started calling Severus 'Dad' instead of 'Father' towards the end. Wonderful job!
