Reviews For Hang a Shining Star
Author's Response: You're welcome! I think the gnome on top of the Weasley's Christmas tree in Canon was what really started me thinking about wizarding traditions vs. typical Muggle celebrations. And even then, I grit my teeth at the commercialization of Christmas every single year in the real world! So it turned into a three-way battle: wizarding vs. secular vs. religious. I knew Lily had to be the key, since she'd grown up in the Muggle world but married a wizard -- but what kind of Christmas did she believe in? With Petunia's focus on pompous show and self gratification, I figured Lily would (as usual) represent opposite values, but how to prove it? Well, Snape and Lily had been best friends... What if Harry could talk to Snape? And then I hit on the idea of the mirror... Now I had the beginnings of a story! Thanks for the review! 😁
Author's Response: I love the anticipation leading up to Christmas (tho' I'm not fond of the commercialization), and I wanted to put some of the happy preparations into my story, adding a magical twist here and there. So nice to receive a response on an older story! Thank you for reading and reviewing! 😊
Author's Response: Thank you so much! This was my first attempt at writing Ron, Hermione, and Ginny, and I kept hoping that I could keep them in character while establishing the cottage setting and the storyline. It's always gratifying to get feedback letting me know that readers enjoyed it! Especially since most people just go on to the next chapter without reviewing the first! :-)
Author's Response: I keep remembering Sirius singing "God Rest Ye Merry Hippogriffs" in OotP, and that really bothered me for some reason, even more than the Weasleys gnoming their Christmas tree. For the past few years, I kept wondering how to approach Christmas in the Wizarding world, and this was my attempt to unravel the puzzle that JKR left us with. Each person's belief (in whatever) is up to that individual, but most people are raised with some sort of influence; since Harry had only the Dursleys to observe, I thought it would be especially important to him to try to learn what his own parents would have wanted him to know/believe. I don't know if you read on to Chap 2, but Harry finds his own answer there! (I know that all my other stories have been one-shots thus far, but feel free to click on NEXT to go on to Chap 2! Hee!) Thanks for reading and reviewing!
Author's Response: Hee! Yes! Both you and Harry will have your questions answered in Chapter 2!
Author's Response: You might find it hard to believe, but there were several places in this story that had me crying as I was WRITING it by hand! Later, I found myself tearing up again as I typed it on the library computer! I'd wondered if I was really losing it! Thanks for letting me know that YOU also found the story so emotionally moving! *hands over a purse pack of tissues* ;-) |
