You're doing a good job with this. Even though the drama of the eruption is over there is still plenty going on, and not just between Harry and Snape. I did think Albus' 'joke' was in poor taste considering the circumstances - perhaps he's losing it.
Author's Response: Thanks! The survivors need to survive and sadly the grief is far from over. This is a slight reprieve from it. He wasn't joking though thats the thing, at the moment he really did feel inadquate at having failed his students. And was resigning right there It was just the cries of outrage at the Ministry that had him quickly retracting his statement. After all he's the reason the Dark Lord was afraid of attacking Hogwarts while he was alive. He's grieving too, and he's prepared to take the burden that so many parents can't carry. Its all very sad but he's got the toughest job of all I think.
