That was absolutely brilliant. I had my reservations, reading it at first- Harry seemed far too mature, but you handled that well in making knowledge his escapism. And unlike a lot of authors, you handled the after effects of abuse realistically and delicately I also love your Snape. His development from canon to your Snape is superb and realistic.

I cannot give enough praise for this story. This is the story I have longed for when reading a harry-is-abused story. Every author, every damn one of them, skips over the most important part: building trust. Especially in the stories where Snape has also been an abuser. The miss the entire point of the relationship.

Trust is not instant or easy and abused kids just don't shake off the abuse, it's affects, the anger, rage and bitterness, the suspicion and wariness that abuse creates.

I love this story. It was so true to real life. Abused kids just think differently, they look at the world differently than kids that have been treated well. Their brains formed with this template and it won't ever change. It can be mitigated, managed and softened, but never eradicated.

I have not found an author that recognizes that and doesn't try to portray these attributes as "wrong" and needing to be "fixed". IRL, they won't change. Those stories have zero acceptance of Harry as he is, just expectations that he start to act "normal".

Again, this was the best abused!harry and Severitus story I have read. Bravo!!

This is a wonderful story. You paint a very clear picture and I could almost smell the lingering smoke from the burnt #4 Privet Drive.

I just wanted to say that this story has been an absolute joy to read. I hope you continue with the sequel; I would love to see what you do with Harry and Snape at Hogwarts.

OMG! What an absolutely, amazingly precious GEM of a story! I can hardly begin to express the level of my admiration. When a fan fic story writer starts his tale by stating that this is their first effort at writing HPff, I'm of course interested, but I also steel myself for the inevitable, illogical scenarios, inane and nauseating 'homages' to Rowling's 'vision' (gag!), and, above all else, the now common place demonstrations of the piss-poor writing skills being 'taught' in our 'Palaces of "Learning"'. But I feel wrong-footed, instead: Like an expected 'step' was not there and I feel embarrassed and hope nobody else saw my misstep.
You are a marvelously, welcome exception: Your writing skills are flawless; your execution and premise are BRILLIANT and YOU 'GET IT'! I understand that you decided to show the abuse that Harry suffered as CANON-PLUS, but, considering that Rowling wouldn't know ABUSE if it hit HER in the face, I believe that she would have downplayed it and dismissed it, just as callously and cavalierly as she did in canon, BUT YOU DIDN'T!!
Thank you, THANK YOU for doing what was RIGHT instead of what would have been EASIER!
I'm looking forward to reading your other offerings and anything ELSE you write, in the future!
    Brava, child, BRAVA!

    Great story!
I love that you took the time to slowly escalate the relationship between Snape and Harry.

I also love that you didn't make Snape protest to taking Harry in. So many fics (while well-done) have a cliched fight between Dumbledore and Snape where Dumbledore finally convinces Snape to take him in. I like the grudging agreement here.

One weakness was the Dumbledore story-line. It is so hard to realistically make Dumbledore ignorant of that level of abuse/Harry living on the streets for a year+ without Dumbledore-bashing (which I am not fond of) and in this case I felt that it was a touch to unrealistic he did not know about Harry being on the streets.

On the whole though, this was a brilliant story. I particularly enjoyed your descriptions of magic and the correlations between magic and muggle science.

I'll be looking forward to the one-shots!!
