I want to preface this by saying that it’s been a very long time since I’ve read this story, in fact the last time I read it was probably when you posted the most recent chapter (and then the whole fic over again of course). You might ask yourself, then, why this crazy person would be leaving a review, two years after they’ve read it. That would be because I think about this story a lot. I left a review on one of the other chapters (possibly on ff.net if you post there) about how this is a very difficult story for me to read. And that hasn’t changed. But the thing is, that this story is so captivating that even scrolling to the bottom of the page to write this review, I’ve gotten hooked again and will most likely be rereading the story after I’m done writing this. I’ve been distracted and rambled off on a tangent, but the reason I was finally motivated to find this story and read this review is the knowledge that as a writer myself, I’d want to know if one of my faceless readers found themselves periodically thinking of my writing. I’m being 100% serious, I really will just be sitting around minding my own business when I’ll think of this fic. Of that story that I desperately hope ends happily (but could so easily end in tragedy) and of the author who has me so hooked in that they could post a sentence and I’d read it over and over looking for hidden meaning and foreshadowing. This is one of those stories that has stuck with me and that I’ll probably never forget. Hell I might even one day say enough is enough and write my own ending for it (though that’s not likely to happen anytime soon given my personal case of writer’s block). Anyways I hope you’re doing well, wherever you are, and maybe see you again someday?

Author's Response: Now you see me again, I have returned to my story to grace you with another installment!  Thank you for such a heartfelt response.  It actually inspired to me write again, a little bit.  I've experienced that same phenomenon with stories.

No! Why haven't you continued this? Where are you!
I cannot express my adoration for this clever work. It's nothing short of precious. I absolutely love the Severus in this story. His insecurities and self-doubt are so real, I can almost feel it with him. I find it so interesting that "the bond" is almost like character itself. The thought you put into the bond is inspiring. There are a precious few master&slave stories I've read, but I must say this is my top favorite.
You are incredible, and this work reflects that. I sincerely hope you come back to complete this someday.

poor Severus. The devil himself should never have to go through what he did.

Good mix of horror and healing between Harry and Severus thank you. I'm wondering if the feelings they are beginning to have for the other, the caring and kindness might break the bond? Just a thought.

Author's Response: I will leave you with that thought.  ;)

It's strange for Harry, getting genuine affection from one of those that he has always gotten hate from in the past (at least before this past summer). But it's a strangeness that he could grow used to if he allows himself to. It's just a little sad to see Harry's world tilt so dramatically when it came to Sirius. It's like if he were to find out that Arthur went out and made muggle bombs in his shed instead of just (mostly) harmless tinkering.

    Author's Response:

Wow, that's a fascinating idea for another story...you might say that it's...the bomb.

But anyway, yeah, Harry will be growing accostomed to affection from Severus, and Severus will grow accostomed to giving it too.  The little romp before bed came from a desire to lighten the mood after all that happened and because Harry hugged him, he was actually in a very affectionate mood.  The oxytocin flowed freely.

You know, I'll bet that Sirius isn't the only one whose Harry's opinion of has suffered. Can you imagine what Harry must feel about his father now? Not the sparkling hero everyone said he was is he? And to a lesser extent his mother and even DD. Lily had to have know or at least suspected something but didn't lift a finger to investigate or influence her husband. DD can't claim he had no power to influence James or Sirius and should have taken more interest in the welfare of his student and later on spy. My cynical side thinks that DD thought it was a great idea to force Severus into the DE ranks against his will and probably didn't put up that much protest or look too deeply into how Severus was treated.

Thinking more about this as I write, I'm sort of shocked that Severus is still even in Wiz UK after James's death, let alone loyal to DD. If it were me, I'd have left the moment James died. Basically a big F-U to Wiz UK. What exactly has DD done for him to earn that sort of respect or loyalty? He allowed the bullying that created this hatred and the increasingly violent "pranks" by the Marauders that resulted in a slave bond. A cynical person like myself would even say this slavery bond was possibly engineered by Potter and Black. They are cruel, entitled Purebloods who would have known about this magical phenomena. Just to see if they could you know?

I sort of hope Sirius is captured and given the Kiss...after several months of crippling guilt. He's a rapist and torturer. No better than a DE really. Actually worse than what DE's got up to in canon. I don't know if he really has a place in Harry's life. But there's my cynical side hijacking my comments :-)

I'm imaging Harry's reunion with his parents after he's finally granted the sweet release of death. I suspect Harry wouldn't be all that impressed with them. Perhaps even ashamed to be James Potter's son. I just can't imagine that he'd feel any sort of Love towards James after learning what he did and was unapologetic up to his dying breath in his actions towards Severus.

    Author's Response:

In my mind, Dumbledore asked James to be nice to Snape, and James didn't comply.  True, Dumbledore could probably have done more, but he made some attempt at least.  And you're right, he would have approved the notion of the spy, but I think one reason why he would have would be that as soon as it was brought up, Snape was hell-bent on doing it.  If he spied, there'd be some evenings when he'd be away from Sirius, so it was in his best interest to be the spy.  Seeing Snape's genuine desire to execute that plan, Dumbledore wouldn't have opposed it too much.  (Though, even if Snape begged not to, I can't see Dumbledore listening.)

That being said, who was the one who showed Snape any mercy?  Who was the one who was there when James was killed?  Who kept Snape out of Azkaban?  Offered him a job and safety after the fallout?  Dumbledore could have done more, but even so Dumbledore did more than anyone else.  Who else does Snape have to be loyal to?  The Dark Lord isn't gone, and he's got to hang around to see to it that he doesn't come back.

I don't think Potter and Black engineered the bond, but James was aware of what would happen before he saved Snape, and didn't stop.

I will keep your desire to see Sirius kissed in mind when writing future chapters!  I was already playing with that idea.

Yeah, Harry's opinions of James have been rather shattered.  Yes, Lily did suspect, after the marriage.  I think she bares significantly less blame that James though, and certainly less than Sirius.  What's the adage?  "Evil prospers when good men do nothing"?  But, to be entirely fair, you don't know yet what Lily was up to.  You've only seen the world as Snape sees it.

I hope that Severus is not the only one with nightmares this night. I hope that Sirius is having some as well.

Author's Response: Oh, that is a very interesting point.  I may just investigate that notion.  Thanks for the idea!
