Taking care of Harry is going to put Severus in a difficult position. I wonder if Harry will be able to keep quiet about where he is staying now?

It sounds like Lily has some power. I'm glad she isn't cowed by Snape. He needs someone strong to keep him in line. I enjoyed your comment about your background. Reading the info about the writers is always interesting. They range from young people to the retired and cover all sorts of backgrounds.

Snape's abuse came as a surprise. The scent of the cigarette giving him a flashback made sense though. It's amazing how the smell of something can trigger a memory. It's a good thing he ran into Lily. He needs the distraction right now.
Author's Response: Poor Snape... To be quite honest, my version of Snape has gotten darker than I originally intended. But as tormented as the canon version was, I wanted to give it greater depth. Not that I could be glad that someone was ever abused, even if it was just a fictional character, but I'm glad that it's coming across as a natural progression in the story. I was glad that Snape finally realized that he and Harry shared the loss of Lily. Severus seems like he really is rather badly injured. Hopefully the potions will take affect and he will be up to dealing with the Dursleys.
Author's Response: Believe it or not, Severus had always been so wrapped up in his own grief that he'd never really given baby Harry much thought. But now that he's starting to know (and care for) Harry, he's starting to realize that he's not the only one who is in pain over the death of Lily. Thank you so much for the review! :)
That was an emotional chapter. It couldn't have been easy for Snape to completely change his thoughts and beliefs about Harry, much less let him see his treasured possessions of Lily's. It must have given Harry a totally different view of Snape, too.

This is so dark. I feel like we never see enough of this side of Voldemort-- I really enjoy when people write like this, even if it makes me wince. He's a merciless, cruel, evil being, and sometimes I think we forget that Severus has to deal with him like this whenever he's summoned. Bravo-- very well written!
Also, I don't know how to feel about this new Lily yet, but I'm getting used to the idea the more and more you write her. Your story is simply marvelous-- I can't even find the right words. There's something about it that tugs away and makes it feel very natural.
Author's Response: Awww, well thank you! My husband saw a bit of what I was writing about Voldemort and was like, "Damn babe, and people say that you're one of the nicest people they've ever met. If they only knew..." I had to laugh at that. It was pretty twisted. And although I hate thinking about such dark, demented things, I think you're absolutely right that we never get to see enough of it firsthand.
And it's totally ok if you're unsure about Lily. Hopefully I can do a good enough job of writing her to win you over. ;) Lol. Thanks for the review!!
I loved your portrayal of snape in this chapter. Especially with Lily! The piece about him not knowing whether he was the hunter or the deer was brilliant. :)

Also I'm wondering if harry actually was sexually abused before because of how he hesitated when snape asked him and later in his dream, he asked his uncle to not let dudley touch him. It could just be a dream about that day's events, or it could be from a memory. Thanks for this interesting story!
Author's Response: Poor Harry... he's had a lot happen to him in his young life. Thank goodness he has someone that recognizes the warning signs and seems to care enough about him to actually do something. We'll see what happens!
