Summary: When Harry was hit by the killing curse, a horcrux was created. In this story, Harry is affected by the piece of Voldemort's soul inside his head in a more noticable way than in the books. Muggles, not knowing any better, decide he must be mentally ill. What effects might the treatment on a psychiatric ward have for the boy-who-lived and the wizarding world?

Story Notes:

I have started posting this story on ffn.net a few weeks ago, but since it's a Harry/Snape mentor/guardian fic I decided to post it here as well. Personally, I have found many great fics only because they had been posted on p&s, since ffn.net can be a bit overwhelming.

Since real Harry-Severus interaction doesn't begin until chapter 12, I couldn't post it on this side sooner, and I can assure everyone that from chapter 12 onwards Harry and Severus will play the major roles!

I had a bit of a problem picking out the right warnings, since issues like self harm or suicide themes aren't depicted in the "normal" sense, and Harry does take medicines that can be considered "drugs", but he gets them legally by a doctor. So if you have suggestions how to change the warning, please pm me or leave a review!

Thanks to all who have read and/or reviewed this story!

I'm not a native speaker of Englisch, so it's likely that you'll find some mistakes in my story. I'm glad if someone points out my mistakes, though, and I'm generally not offended by critical or negative reviews. On the contrary, I appreciate suggestions how to improve my writing!

I think it is safe to say that from chapter 16 onwards, the story will feature Severus and Harry much more prominently!

34. Electroconvulsive therapy by SnowWhiteOwl [Reviews - 4] starstarstarstarstar (5568 words) Printer

I'm not certain how realistic my portrayal of electro-convulsive therapy is, I have never witnessed or experienced such a treatment and only read about it. But I can assure anyone who isn't familiar with psychiatry in general that it isn't a form of torture but something that can, in some very specific cases, be helpful if no other means of treatment work. However, in the middle of the last century ECT was abused in order to keep people quiet and applied excessively, often without anaesthesia - that's the reason why it has such a bad image.
