VERY convincing characterization and plot development. I'm really intrigued by the idea. I can *definitely* see Snape feeling an obligation to help a student in Harry's situation. I think the title says it all, really. Snape might not be the most pleasant of men, but I really do see him having a very deep sense of duty. I just can't see him allowing anyone to harm *any* student in his care without taking appropriate action. A very well thought out take on abused!Harry.

Author's Response: Thanks.  That small idea was what started the whole story.  I have a degree in education, so the reporting law mentioned is actually based in reality.  It's pretty universal in western law, from what I can see.  And, knowing Severus's background, I can't see him willingly stand back and allow something like that to continue.  I'm trying for a slow evolution of their relationship.  I've seen far too many stories with an abused!Harry suddenly latch onto Severus within a few chapters.  I mean, the line between love and hate may be thin, as the saying goes, but it takes wuite a bit longer for people's feelings to change from one to the other than fifteen minutes! ;) 60,000 words in and Severus is still vehmently declaring that he doesn't like Harry at all!

A moment witnessed between two of Hogwarts' most hated Professors. Snape didn't always obey Umbridge, she was too low on the primordial food chain for that. (One-Shot)

Very nice portrayal of Snape. I found his attitude very convincing.

I find it extremely out of character that he'd suddenly become soft and cuddly after finding out, but at the same time, I've always felt that, nasty as he is, he does feel a real responsibility towards his students. You can taunt and torment them all you want, but Merlin help you if you lay so much as a finger on students in his care!

You did an excellent job striking a balance between snarkiness and sympathy. Nicely done!

Author's Response: Thanks! I know what you mean, I've read so many stories where he just seems to ... melt ... and I did my best not to let is happen here. It's wonderful to hear that I achieved it ^_^ Thanks again for all of your comments!

Harry Potter, 10 years old, finds out that he isn't a Potter, and that he has a brother still living! And his brother happens to be Severus Snape. After the reading of Eileen Prince's will, Severus takes Harry in. And after spending the summer living with his newly-found brother, being educated in the wizarding ways, and meeting new people, Harry slowly starts fitting in and having a normal life.

How long will it stay normal, though? After all, despite him being known to Hogwarts and the rest of the world as Silas Prince, he still is Harry Potter, and it is only so long that he is able to stay out of trouble.

An interesting twist on the relationship between Harry and Snape. I really appreciate the way you've managed to show Snape softening towards Harry (or Silas, rather) while still staying true to his character, and allowing the change to proceed gradually.

A slight twist to the usual deaging stories. What if the accident created a gas? What if it affected the entire class? How does Snape deal with fifteen toddlers?

I'm very much enjoying this story! I love how you've managed to put in plenty of fluffy moments and yet still keep Snape completely in-character. The character interactions are wonderful. I do feel for poor Harry, and I like your portrayal of Draco as well - spoiled and selfish, but with insecurities and issues of his own. Excellent characterization!

As Harry comes of age, he must discover the secret of how Voldemort cheated death and find a way to defeat this evil once and for all. Along the way, he will have to contend with Death Eaters, shadowy Ministry officials and suspicions that threaten to tear his own allies apart. And he will need to delve farther than ever before into the mysteries of the mind where victory can only be won by freeing the chained souls.

PLEASE tell me you didn't really leave us there! The whole build-up, as well as the last scene, was absolutely heart-wrenching. You've managed to develop a very unique idea, and executed it beautifully. It's been a long time since I've found myself so emotionally invested in a character's fate.

It's such a horrifying paradox - Harry can't help but lose! Poor guy. Snape's reactions are spot-on - resigned, determined, but just a flash of regret at the end. I loved his question to Harry, "“Potter, do you honestly believe that there is anything you need to say to me that I don’t already know?”
So very Snape-like, and yet bitterly sweet.

I'm very impressed with this story in general, and this chapter in particular.

    Brilliant chapter! Absolutely brilliant!

Beautifully dramatic, and extremely realisic in its dealings with the lingering effects of Voldemort's defeat - everything isn't suddenly all sunshine and roses just because he's dead. The characters have very real psychological issues to deal with. I love the distinction between faceless enemies and the parents of schoolmates. It's really something to consider, and something that is frequently neglected in fanon. I mean, it's one thing to rejoice in killing an evil death eater, and another to come to breakfast the next morning and look at a crying eleven-year-old and know that you've just killed her father. I really appreciate that you didn't just gloss over this point.

I almost cheered aloud when Snape announced his presence! Be still, my heart! My hero!

I really liked Harry's rationalization that it was Snape who gave his mother the opportunity to *choose* to sacrifice her life for her son - it's a unique idea, and a very valid point.

Finally, the ending was just perfect. Hopeful, bringing closure, and yet totally devoid of fluff! Brilliantly done. This story ends on just the right note, and yet...there's going to be something missing with no more updates to look forward to.

    Author's Response:

<< I really liked Harry's rationalization that it was Snape who gave his mother the opportunity to *choose* to sacrifice her life for her son - it's a unique idea, and a very valid point. >>

I have JKR to thank for this.  In one of her interviews, years ago, she made a point of distinguishing Lily's sacrifice from James's.  After all James loved his son as much as Lily did and gave his life for both Harry and Lily.  But he couldn't have saved Harry because as JKR put it, "he was always going to die."  JKR said that Lily was able to save Harry specifically because she was given the choice to step aside and didn't.

When Harry finds an injured Snape on his doorstep and must hide him from the Dursleys, he has no idea that this very, very bad day will be the start of something good.

Harry and Snape are thrown together by annoying relatives, a series of strange dreams, and Voldemort's latest hunt for Harry, but their greatest challenge may well be surviving each other. This will be a long summer unless the two can find a way to work together. A slow-burn enemy-to-mentor story.

Alternate 6th summer (and part of the school year): post-OotP; ignores HBP and DH.

Great chapter! I love Harry's slow realizations about Snape - the fact that he owes him a lot, and that even when he's furious with him he's not about to deny him meals. I think it's very consistent with Harry's character that even though he does realize that Snape's done a lot for him, he still can't bring himself to thank the man. He does have his pride, after all.

Author's Response: Thank you for the review! Yes, Harry does have his pride, doesn't he? I'm glad you think it's consistent with his character!

Another amusing chapter! I do love Snape's oh-so-succinct answers, especially in contrast to Harry's tendency to ramble. "How well do you know the Malfoys?" "Well." Fantastic! I can just *feel* Harry's frustration trying to get any information at all out of the man. The out-of-the blue "legilimency" was priceless!

I love how Snape seems to be a bit amused at Harry's attempts at being Slytherin, and Harry wondering if Snape was Draco's Sirius was a cute touch.

Author's Response: Thank you for the review, bluebird88!  I'm glad you liked it - those bits you commented on were so fun to write! :)

10 year old Harry is kidnapped along with his aunt and cousin after Vernon finds money that belonged to powerful people. Snape eventually steps in to save the day. Severus later adopts Harry though a ritual to make Harry his biological son. Harry just wants to be normal but that isn't possible with escaped convict Sirius Black on the loose! Harry's first year at Hogwarts but with a slight twist to it.

Definately a unique take! I don't think I've ever read something with a storyline like this before. It's hard to find Harry/Snape stories with new ideas. Very creative!

Author's Response: Thank you very much for the review! I really tried to make this story somewhat different than others.

The defeat of Voldemort leaves Harry Potter and Severus Snape adrift in a new world where they are no longer needed. Will they help each other adapt to this new freedom or will old grudges prove stronger? Read to find out!

A very well-written story so far! I love the interaction between Snape and Harry, and I also really appreciate the nice long chapters!

I was totally cracking up at the idea of Snape having a sweet tooth. A nice humorous touch!

Author's Response: I helped Snape along a bit with my own cookie obsession. ;) I've always been a sucker for cookies...okay, re-phrasing that. Anyway, thank you very much for the wonderful review! More long chapters are on their way. :) Enjoy!
