I really liked this chapter, it was great to see some emotion-provoking conversations! I don't even mind that you didn't get to the blood quill and DA. It was wonderful and heartbreaking to see how much Harry wants a family and continues to doubt how much Severus loves him...*sigh* But, it was great to see him finally, sorta, admit to himself that he wants Severus to be his family. And Harry's comment of "you never talk about your family" made my heart break for Severus and I screamed "don't you screw this up, Sev!" He didn't. I thought he handled it very well...and I can't wait for that conversation, when it comes. It was really good for Severus to be overcome by his emotions there and after Harry finished telling of his painful history. I really like that, and it was in character for this Sev, so great job! I was overcome with emotion from reading that as well as "I wasn't there for you. None of us were there for you." It was perfect! So, great chapter and I'll try to speed read the next one! Author's Response: Thank you! It was a pretty emotional chapter, wasn't it? I've decided to adjust my outline for the story and have Sev find out about the blood quill later, simply because he's just found out about the Dursleys and that was so emotional, that I think it would be overkill if he discovered Harry's scarred hand right afterwards, too. I'm looking forward to writing about Severus opening up to Harry about his own past...should be very angsty and it'll give Harry a chance to be the strong, comforting one. Glad you like Sev's reaction...he does love Harry and it's hard to both hear how much Harry suffered and to realise how much he and the other professors let Harry down when they should have been looking out for him.
Author's Response: *laughs* Okay...go to class already! Thanks!
Finally!! It's the weekend! YAAY! Ok, from the top... I'm glad the new living arrangements are working out just fine, but really didn't expect anything less than that. I'm also glad that Occlumency and Potions are still proving difficult for Harry to master...and that he's exceeding in his other subjects. It was nice of Ron and Hermione to accept Harry's situation and feelings towards Severus, like true friends!! And shame on Ron for continuously bringing up Severus' past treatment of Harry...although it is good to know that it truly is in the past now. Poor Seamus...loosing points for Gryffindor! Good Job Severus staying pleasent with the DA kids...it was a nice chance for them to see how much he has changed and accepted Harry. It is sad that the war has escalated to such an extent, but it's also a good thing that the kids in Hogwarts realize what's going on and are preparing accordingly, even if it is a battle. I really appreciate how in-character you keep Harry. I think his constant berating of himself for the death of Sirius is extremely accurate (at least with my version of Harry). And it's wonderful for Severus and Harry to have those moments after such a horrible dream...*sigh* Harry's half-conscious thoughts about Ron, Hermione, and himelf teaching were wonderful as was Severus' praising Harry on how much the DA learned last year...I blushed with the praise too! Poor Hannah, though. Is her mom's death canon? I can't seem to remember...and why does one-third of goldeness have to leave!? NOOOO!!! HERMIONE!!!! Please update soon! I can't wait to read more and hopefully I'll not miss this one, either! Author's Response: Thank you! I'm glad you like Occlumency and Potions still being Harry's weak spots...I figure first of all, everyone has strengths and weaknesses, that's only realistic. Also, I'm trying to build up to a moment where Severus and Harry will have to confront Severus' past treatment of Harry, and so I needed to show that in some ways, Harry's still affected. It's not that he's consciously resentful or scared, but it's also not a coincidence that Occlumency and Potions are the two things Sev tried to teach him back when the two were enemies. Harry was told over and over again that he was no good at those subjects and he's got a real mental hang-up about them now. Yes, I think Harry will struggle with feelings of guilt over Sirius' death for a long time...it's slowly getting better, compare this nightmare with the first one I wrote when Sirius was telling Harry that it was all his fault. Now Harry just sees it happen, but Sirius isn't blaming him. It's a small step. But the death of a loved one is something that affects a person for the rest of their life. I am so happy for Harry's sake though, that Severus is there for him. That's what will help Harry heal more than anything. I enjoyed writing the little snippet with Harry, Ron, and Hermione being professors. I can't write real humor to save my life, but maybe I can put in a little humorous touch now and then. Maybe the professors dream could be foreshadowing, too... Yeah, Mrs. Abbott's death is canon, it's mentioned at some point in HBP, and all questions about Hermione will be answered in the next chapter or two. Thanks again! *You'll never believe me when I say I'm not going to post anytime soon, after "Slave Child", will you? But I started writing and got carried away!
It was good to see Harry taking care of Severus instead of the other way around. It's just nice to get those feelings from Harry every once and a while. And I loved the conversation about Severus' clothes. You are too funny! Although I really am curious...when do we find out what Harry gets everyone for Christmas?! And what about Severus' dream? Do we get his point of view in the second half of the chapter? I'm really curious to see what it was about! And YAY for Harry finally having a parent figure! (Even though he's still quite hesitant about what their relationship means, that certain uncertainty, it really keeps him in character!) It's good that Severus seems to realize it too, that man is turning into a softie and I love it!! Great job on this and thanks for updating sooner! It truly was just what I needed this morning! Author's Response: Thank you! I'm glad to see you again! How's your fic coming along? It was fun to write Harry being a bit of a caretaker here, and if you liked it, you'll be happy to know that I've got a couple of other scenes planned where Harry will be the one taking care of and comforting Severus...one later in "Potions Professor" and one for the Deathly Hallows AU. Christmas is coming soon. Everytime I say something will be in the next chapter, I end up not writing it in that chapter after all, so I'll just say it's coming soon. The more interesting question might be what does Severus get Harry for Christmas, though. About Sev's nightmare, well, it's really not meant to be a big mystery, though Severus won't share it with Harry for a while. But remember the day before, he had told the Trio about DEs killing Hermione's neighbors, including a young couple with a baby boy, and the kids were talking about how horrible and cruel the DEs were...it just might have brought back some memories Severus would rather forget. Yeah, I'm so happy Harry and Severus have reached this point in their relationship. I love softie Sev. Glad you liked it! Severitus challenge response. On Harry's 15th birthday, a surprising truth is revealed. Now he and Snape must deal with its consequences.

Really good chapter, I really did like how Snape's train of thought led him to a "everything has its purpose." Hopefully he's able to work out a way to be Harry's dad while maintaining his cover as spy for Voldermort and Dumbledore. Or if he can't, that he explains it to Harry better so that he understands that it's not him (Harry) but rather Snape's own limits that are preventing them from being a family. Maybe something will happen over the Winter Hols? Perhaps a little family reunion between Father and Son? Can't wait for the next chapter!! Update soon!
I guess I never thought Remus' character would work like that, but it does! You did an awesome job! I hope Harry gets back to the Tower eventhough he's not wearing his glamor charm...did he think to grab his cloak before rushing out of Snape's room? If not, it would certainly be interesting if he was caught by Filch wandering the halls after curfew. *snickers lightly to self* I can't wait to see what Severus' next move is. Does he say "screw Voldie, I want to have a family" and show Harry how he really feels or does he say that Harry can wait. IF he does decide that it's better to be safe than sorry and not be 100% fatherly towards Harry, it would be interesting if Voldermort somehow found out anyway...and decided to remove Severus from his services (however he decides to do that). Other stories I've seen take a diferent route than that too, though. They (somehow) get Voldie to believe in Severus' claims that if he befriends Harry that it will help in some grand scheme of things that will result in the capture of the Boy when he leasts expects it, some long time down the road; obviously allowing Snape to be plesent in Potions towards Harry and all Gryffindors. Well, whatever happens, I can't wait!! Update soon please! Sequel to Brothers and Fathers. Tobias, Severus, and Harry are at Hogwarts and school is in session. But nothing can ever be easy for the Snape family.

(Reading other reviews for this chapter) I'm really glad that you kept in the baby from "baby brother" too. It does make sense that Severus would be so angry and disraught that he wouldn't care much what was coming out of his mouth. But those last lines between Harry and Severus...writing fanfiction should be a crime! It's THAT good! I'm really excited for the next chapter, though. I can't decide what this 'thing' is that's attacking students and house-elves, although I have a few (lame) possibilities that arn't even close to the truth, I bet! I also can't wait for more classroom scenes, so please write some more of those! I like the dynamic character of 'Captian' and love his classes! It would also be great to see how Severus acts in a potions class first hand. Lastly, I'm curious to see what you've got in mind for Draco, but I expect him to be working in the shadows for a bit longer, as it were. Well, UPDATE!! (Please try to soon!)Trust me when I say that we could all use another chapter!! Author's Response: Wow! This is such a great review I don't know how to respond. Thank you! I promise to update as soon as possible, but it will probably be two weeks before the next chapter. About the 'thing' attacking the students and house-elves: I tell you only that its nothing written in the books and entirely from my own imagination. I'm estatic that you like the classroom scenes, I've thought about adding more, but wasn't sure if people really enjoyed them. I like writing them simpily because I love anything that's history related, but I know many find that dull so...*shrugs* Thanks again for the wonderful review and I promise to update as soon as I'm able. SEQUEL TO EQUILIBIRUM : A mentoring relationship is developing between young wizard Harry Potter and his dour Potions Professor, Severus Snape; but away from Hogwarts, Harry’s life is not all it seems. Author's Response: Thanks! I will continue to post here. . .I love this site. After Harry is caught for exploding a cauldron in 2nd year Potions, Snape insists he keep a firm hand on the boy he must secretly protect. However, he discoveres that there is more to the twelve year old than unruliness and disrespect. Similarly, Harry learns from and gains a new perspective of his professor.

Harry seems to be having a really natural progression of relationship with Snape and that makes me happy as well. Sometimes, the relationship just dosen't make sense but your's really does! Harry and Snape are so in character it's amazing! I really can't wait until the next chapter! (Reading other reviews) I also noticed that Snape dosen't use contractions and it really fits him well. You do create great scenes and dialogue to have Harry and Snape run amuck in and it's just perfect!! I really can't praise you enough and am really sorry I don't have anything more relevent to the story...but you're doing a great job and I can't wait until the next update! The final detention!! *ooh!* Although I feel a discussion about the Dursleys coming on..."Wear old clothing." Hmmm...how good IS Harry's home life in this fic? Because a little un-schedualed visit from Snape would certainly whip those relatives into shape for Harry this next summer!! Author's Response: Thank you for such a wonderful review! Knowing that you just found my story yesterday and read it all the way through is so, so awesome... I'm glad you're enjoying it! I know what you mean about the relationship between Snape and Harry not making sense... Since my fic is not an adoption fic right now, I had to give a valid reason for Snape wanting to get Harry under control. After all, he's the one who is expected to chase Harry all over creation and keep him safe. Seems to me he should be able to keep a firm hand on him... I didn't even think about a Snape-meets-Dursleys scene, but if you're interested, I could totally squeeze it in there...Reading all of these reviews actually gives me great ideas for this story at times. As for the state of Harry's homelife, I've given the readers a glimpse of it in the first chapter, but it is very similar to what JKR created; although, I always believed that perhaps Vernon was a little bit more physical in his treatment of Harry than she let on (i.e.: "Harry knew from experience not to come within arms reach of his uncle") or whatever the exact saying is. Thanks again for your words of encouragement. It really means a lot. Have a great week!
Author's Response: I'm so glad you thought the argument was realistic, and no, of course it doesn't sound stupid! Realism is what I'm always going for in this story :) The lack of questions from Snape was intentional. I suppose I've created a quiet, yet observant Snape. The questions will fly soon, however. Thank you so much for the great review and kind words of encouragement! |
