What's in a name? The-boy-who-lived, prophesied defeater of the Dark Lord, son of the supremely intelligent Lily Evans and talented James Potter, Golden boy of Gryffindor, part-time punching bag and house elf of the Dursleys and the bane of Severus Snape's teaching career, Harry's used to labels. Who would want Harry when they can see instead whoever they like instead? Having never been entirely sure who he is makes him a little too open to suggestion though and unfortunately for him, Umbridge wants to banish his old list of names and create a new one of her own.
Beneath the names others have branded him with will anyone be able to find Harry? Takes Place: 6th summer - Snape flavour: None Tags: None Categories: Parental Snape > Guardian Snape, Teacher Snape > Professor Snape

Regardless of the conundrum, I loved the chapter, even though Harry was unconscious throughout (except for his semi-conscious musings at the beginning). Severus' seething anger and thoughts of retribution are a wonderful precussor to chapters that I am sure will contain all the fluff and angst your readership can absorb. Lesley~ Author's Response: Hehe, I find that enjoying the torture is actually a nice thing for a reader since it means they hold out hope that he'll get help and healing afterward... see, we're really optimistists with his best intentions at heart if you think about it... really, really hard ^^ - 'cept those who read them just to imagine him being tortured... cruel, cruel peoples... not like us... ^^ Heh, poor JK's Harry, he's been ethosized... totally a word... or a bizarre new form of working out... he's just so easy to pick on (and I am not whining... I'm noooot) (far too much sugar... sorry ^^) - and I think we prefer a weak Harry because he's so much more realistic (not that there's anything unrealistic about a 17 year old defeating a mass murderer with a wand... it's just as realistic as a population believing he was born to after all ^^) - and come on, who doesnt love Save-'em Sev ^-^ (ooh, he could totally be a superhero! ^^) Thank you ^^ I'm thrilled you're still interested enough to keep reading (both the fic and this reply ^-^) - an unconscious Harry is infinitely easier to write... though somehow more angsty... go figure... And that's the best way I've heard it put so far; I'm going to be packing as much Sev (seething, fluffy, angstful (angstful?), cuddly and all) into the rest of this fic as I can... realistically ^-^ Thanks so much *have points and muffins!* Drabble written for Graciella's Dr. Seuss Challenge. Harry gets caught writing some interesting poetry during Potion's class...

Well done you! Lesley~ Author's Response: Yay, I'm glad you liked it! I just thought Harry needed to have a little angsty episode after he was caught, lol. I didn't really want to sully Dr. Seuss' style with profanity, but it just sort of happened and then I couldn't take it out because I liked Harry's displaced anger towards Snape. Thanks for reading! -P.G. Severus and James give Harry a bath and get a little more than they bargained for...

Lesley~ Author's Response: Heh, I suppose Harry could have been doing a little something else, lol. I hadn't thought of that, but then again, I haven't spent a lot of time around babies either. I'm glad you enjoyed it a second time! -P.G. Harry Potter was reckless. He was reckless and irresponsible and infuriating and impossible and Severus was terrified because he’d just heard a scream.

Nicely written again. I have to wonder whether you are Australian (as am I) when you wrote of red-bellied black snakes. They are native to Eastern Australia and not Britain. I have even encountered one near my home. Britain has few native snakes (vipers [adders], smooth snakes and grass snakes) and none are anywhere near as dangerous as the red-bellied black. Also, you stated Harry's age as being twelve. He seemed younger and Snape spoke to him as if he was a younger child. Still I enjoyed the story. I can always imagine that a Snape forced into constant company with a young Harry would eventually come to care for him. When allowed to be a child and not a mistreated, down-trodden slave, I imagine Harry would be an endearing child. Lesley~ Author's Response: Thanks ^^ Yeah you're not wrong, I dont want to rush Antonomasia but I was in desperate need to write some fluff. I also had the feeling that readers of A wouldnt mind much either ^-^ And yes I am Aussie ^^ (horrible heatwave we're having in SA, I can only hope you live far enough away that it's at least a little cooler). I didnt even think of whether they'd be native or not... quite the oversight in restrospect ^^ - as soon as I thought of snakes though I thought of when we had a family of red-belly blacks in the backyard and it sort of eclipsed other thoughts... the ones that should have come up to remind me that HP is in fact British... but then I think in this they're supposed to be living in NZ like in Bil's fic so that's a bit closer at least (am I grasping at straws? ^^) And with the age... well okay, I have to admit, I do so love when Sev has that awkward parent side that makes him coddle ever so slightly even when he absolutely refuses to do so, I probably over-indulged ^-^ Glad you enjoyed it regardless (or maybe because of those things - it did make it cuter in the end ^^) hehe of course Snape wouldnt be able to stop himself from loving Harry if he was always around him, he's really a big pussy cat after all and Harry is very endearing isnt he ^^... when he wants to be (or as you said, very miserable... like when I get my Antonomasia hat on ^^) Thanks so much, I still cant believe you took so much time to leave such wonderful reviews! Stay cool (wont summer just be wonderful this year *grumbles* ^-^) Halloween has always been painful for Harry, but the most unlikely person shows Harry that what started out as a tragedy, can be a miracle of love and rebirth.

Anyway, the story was very cute. I loved over-protective Sev and I adored that Sirius was there (and Remus, though he was a tab indisposed) and that they will be able to tell him that he has been vindicated. And Pettigrew has been captured! Yay! I gather that this story is a spin off of "Sparks Will Fly'? I know we are only at the start of third year in that story, but you say here that Harry is fourteen, so he would be in fourth year. You also said that they had only known for a matter of months that Sev is actually Harry's father. Perhaps this story is an entirely different scenario. Anyway, it was very cute, regardless. I wonder, are Canadians quite as caught up in Halloween as the mericans are? I am not sure how big it is in England, though I would not have thought it would be anywhere near as big as it is in the US. Here, of course, it is practically a non-event. Retailers are trying to jump on the band wagon and turn it into a big money-making deal, but we would be lucky to see half a dozen kids out and about and most of them are just teenagers who don't bother dressing up and just want to cadge some lollies and use it as an excuse to 'egg' your car or windows if you don't have any. They also use shaving cream to spray on the cars and that eats into the paintwork if not removed straight away. I have an English friend and she said that it was never anything in her day. But she is in her mid sixties now. I know JK wrote about kids running around on Halloween in DH, but I wonder just how many do. Once again, thank you for the dedication. Lesley~ Author's Response: Hi Lesley,
I'm glad that you liked it. It's strange, but when it popped into my head to write "little" Lesley, the name also did, and then as I started to write her, I coulcn't help thinking about little Bonnie. I think that Bonnie is a little younger than Lesley though, but I just kept picturing her in my mind as I was describing her. Yeah, Canadians love Halloween. At least most of them. I know that in England, it's probably not as big, but JK did have Hogwarts have a feast and everything, so I figured it wouldn't be too farfetched to have Harry trick-or-treat, and it was fun to write. Oh, that spraying of the cars, and eggs, sometimes happens here the day before Halloween. They call it "Matte" Day or something like that.
The story is very loosely based on Sparks Will Fly, but although SWF, will feature Sirius, the scenario will be a bit different, as you will see later on. It's strange but Sirius' presence in this story was a spur of the moment decision. It just sort of popped into my head as I was writing about the Haunted House. I'm not really sure why! I just thought that it sort of fit in with the way that Severus was trying to get Harry to view Halloween in a different light, and this is why I also made Harry fourteen, instead of thirteen or fifteen, so that Sirius would have still been on the run, the third year would be over, but Voldemort's return wouldn't make Severus stop Harry from going out altogether for Halloween.
Anyway, thanks for the review, and I'm glad that you are okay with me dedicating the story and basing little Lesley after Bonnie!! I love that story so much! During an emergency, Severus is forced to make a choice with horrific consequences. Can he justify his actions? Entrant in the 2009 Prompt Fest. Prompts: Pandemonium and Traitor

Who were Sev's attackers? Was he arrested for killing the unicorn or was he just beaten to a pulp by outraged people? And the worst thing is not knowing what kind a life Harry has been condemned to. He will certainly be scared unless Fawkes can help with that. Very sad. Lesley~ Author's Response: I'm glad I conveyed what I had hoped for. I had toyed with making up a beast to attack Harry, but then I decided it was scarier if I left it up the reader's imagination. It's very surreal for Severus that way too because he didn't even see what did it. The Forbidden Forest is known for containing some of the most scariest beasts around and I get the idea that nobody really knows about everything that is out there. I'll let you imagine what you will about the beast. The same goes for Sev's attackers, actually. I do have a couple of people that I picture, but really, it could anyone at the school or in the Order. In this story, I kind of get the feeling that those people didn't want Harry to be Sev's son in the first place and so they've been waiting for Severus to mess up in some way. Of course, this is above and beyond anything they imagined, certainly, and it's not Severus' fault, but people tend to be quick to place the blame in these sorts of situations. I think he was arrested for both killing the unicorn and by cursing Harry with its blood. Harry had no choice in this situation, but now he might be cursed with a half-life, which the golden boy's admirers really cannot stand. It is my opinion that the people who locked Sev up thought Harry should have just been allowed to die since he was in such bad condition. I had not thought of Fawkes when writing this. That's a good idea and if I should ever write a sequel, I'm sure he'd have a part in it. Thanks for the review Lesley--you always give me something to think about, which I appreciate. -P.G. Harry liked green. Green and silver. Green and silver tinsel, all over Snape’s couch. And the Potions Master in not impressed. But then he wasn’t in the best mood to begin with.

It took me a moment to get my head around 'secret Santa'. Being an Aussie, I would have thought you would call the tradition, 'Kris Kringle'. Merry Christmas to you too. Lesley~ Author's Response: Thank you ^-^ hehe, hmm, you're the second one to ask about a back story... or maybe the third (I'd say I've lost count but it would make it sound like their were more than their were ^^) Perhaps I should explain their finding each other (... after I've thought of it... sorry, did I lose some mystery there? ^^ and I sincerely doubt it... but then with Harry he'd probably let anything slide so perhaps... ^^ Ahh, I do it Kris Kringle but I doubted they did in the UK... perhaps they do, though I've been told they dont... so confusing TT - I thought I should get it right for this though since I think I buggered a few things up in Impossible ^^ - plus I'm a sucker for alliteration so I like the idea of a Sev's Secret Santa scene ^^ Merry Christmas to you bigger ^-^, hope your holidays are going well ^^ |
