About me:

Hi there.

I am a 55 year old mother of five grown kids and a grandmother of a beautiful 6 month old granddaughter.

I discovered fan fiction about 18 months ago, but had been writing my own stories before then. I just didn't know that there was such a huge market out there of people who like to read amateur works like mine.

Mind you, some are not so very amateur in content. There are some brilliant writers out there.

I have been obsessed with Harry Potter since buying my then 8 year old son the first three books in the series. I wasn't going to read them but a friend who loves fantasy ( and is even older than me, if you can believe that) encouraged me to do so and an addiction was born.

By the way, I come from Victoria, Australia.

I hope I can give a little bit of pleasure to a lot of people.

Thanks for reading this bio.

Title: Chapter 8: Bad Decisions 10 Jan 2009

Oh, Snape is an absolute s***. I really dislike him in this.

And Draco is as big a pain as he has always been.

Harry has become quite angry, but in some ways, I think he is justified. Hermione does go on, doesn't she. Harry has killed a man. Let him decide what he wants to do and leave him alone.

    Lesley.

    Author's Response:

Snape is not nice in this, that is for sure!  He will get better, I promise!

Draco is a snot, and a suck-up!  He'll get his in the end, lOl!

Hermione tends to be a little over-bearing, but I guess she means well!

Title: Chapter 1: Dumbledore's Betrayal 27 Oct 2008

Hey Dawn. Fantastic start to what I am sure will be a great story. Very nicely written too. I am not sure I agree with another reviewer who said that she thought 'I need to process this' is an Americanism. I am Australian and our speech patterns tend to lean more towards the British than the American (and your Canadian anyway) and that phrase has been around for a long, long time...everywhere, I imagine.

I wonder why Harry went back into the pensieve after the battle was over and won. Did he just want to see his mum again perhaps? And I am also concerned that HArry didn't seem to be upset in the least that JAmes Potter has just been cast in the role of a support character in his life, rather than a lead one. I would think that would be a major cause of distress. And HArry hasn't questioned why Snape was still as nasty as he ever was for the rest of fifth year and all of the sixth, even after finding out that Harry was his son

The horcrux is very interesting...to think that Harry handled the thing for a whole year without knowing its biggest secret. I'm sorry that you've had to turn DD into the bad guy, but obviously you did have to. I hate DD being a bad guy.

Looking forward to the next chapter.

    Lesley

    Author's Response:

Thank  you Lesley.  I was kind of wondering about that statement beting labled as an Americanism too.  I will explain later why Harry went into the Pensieve to begin witth, and why he is not as angry as he might be, about James not being his father.  As far as Harry having the book for a year and not realising that it was a Horcrux, well...alot of these questions will be answered later. But, remember how angry Snape was when he realised that Harry had used his spell on Malfoy.  He was starting to suspect that Harry had the book at that point.  It made him very nervous.

Dont worry about Dumbledore being the bad guy.  Harry is just angry right now; he will eventually realise that Dumbledore only did what he thought was right to protect him.  After all, Dumbledore didn't know the extent of the abuse that Harry suffered at the hands of the Dursley's, nor did he truly believe that Severus was capable of bringing up a child alone, without Lily.

Hey Dawn Just read chapters 2&3. I don't like the idea that Harry did resort to such dark magic, and that now he may have to fight the desire to do dark deeds for the rest of his life, and all for the sake of bringing an entirely ungrateful and still exceedingly hateful man back from the dead.

There is no softening of Snape whatsoever.

I am surprised that Snape's body was still in the shrieking shack...I would have thought t=one of the first things Harry would do, before taking a leisurely stroll back down memory lane, would have been to bring Snapes body back to the castle to be lain with all of the others who had fought for the side of the light.

I was glad to see that you bought Ginny into Harry's thoughts. I thought you might be leaving her out.

And how come Scrimgoeur is still alive...did you say somewhere that he would be? I couldn't see any notes to that effect. Kingsley was made interim MoM in canon. He would have been more sympathetic to Harry's claim that Severus is innocent.

Looking forward to what will happen next, though I think things are not going to go well for either Harry or Sev.

    Lesley

    Author's Response:

OOps!  You got me!  I completely forgot that Scrimgeour died!  Ok, well consider this a warning that Scrimgeour is back!  Yikes!  I guess I'd had better go back and reread DH!  Thanks for catching that! Actually, I suppose it is just as well that I made that error, because it just would have been too easy if Kingsley were the Minister, wouldn't it?  Is anything EVER easy in fanficland? ;)

Well, Harry went almost directly into the Pensieve after defeating Voldemort, because he was in shock, and felt a mixture of grief, happiness and lonliness.  He just wanted to see his parents and feel close to them.  Unfortunately, he got more than he bargained for!  Perhaps if Harry had not seen the memories, he would have thought to retrieve Snape's body immediately.  We do not always think clearly when we are in a state of shock.

Yes, Snape is a really ungrateful bastard in this story.  But, don't worry...he'll lighten up...eventually!  It will be a rocky road though, and Sev is a hard nut to crack.

Harry did take an awful risk in dabbling in Dark Magic, but we all know how impestuous Harry can be.  Gotta love him!  His only thought was to reward Snape for risking his life for him, and having loved his mother so deeply.  Unfortunately...Snape did not apprectiate the gift that he was given.

Yes Lesley, Ginny will play a major part in this story.  You and Tabitha have inspired me with your hot and heavy scenes between her and Harry. Although, I must warn you that Ginny will not be pleased at the transformation that Harry undergoes, and things will not be all rosy for the two.  But, they will eventually work out their differences! I'm a romantic at heart, after all! ;)

Phew, ok, I'm long-winded, aren't I?  Thanks for your review!  I'm looking forward to YOUR next updates on SS & the Muggle, and Shocking Discovery! ;)  Can't wait!

Hey Dawn. Finally gotten around to reading some of your story.

Great chapter. I was surprised to see that you had Kingsley as interim MoM, and of course I didn't see your A/N i=until I had finished reading the chap. Good job...I really like Kingsley.

Loved HArry's introspection ab out everything, especially Ginny. Wonder if she is going to give him a hard time. It was funny poor HArry had to leave the dorm because our young lovers were busy behind the curtains!

The interrogation scene was great and Minerva's appeal to Sev was expected, but boy, has she ever given him a huge workload or what?

Why did he feel that Minierva had given him no choice but to succumb to her entreaties? Was it the appeal to be there for 'his' Slytherins?

Really enjoyed this. Will get onto the next two chaps ASAP. Can't wait to see H/G and more of Sev/Harry.

    Lesley

    Author's Response:

Thanks!  I take all my reviews very seriously, and I wanted the story to be as close to Canon as possible, so when you pointed out my little blunder, I just had to go change it.  To tell you the truth, I like the change.  I've always liked Kingsley too, so I'm thankful that you pointed out that Scrimgeour was dead.  It has been quite a while since I've read the books that I'd completely forgotten.

I think that Sev's motivation in accepting Minerva's offer to be Headmaster, has alot to do with his pleasure that Minerva has offered him something that he always felt lacking before, respect!  After all..in offering him so much responsibility, Minerva has given him the message that she believes in his loyalty, and she is placing her trust in him.  Also, I think that in the past, Sev has always felt that his authority was undermined by Dumbledore and this has always been a sore spot for him.  Yes, he can also help his Slytherins as well, by being in a position of power.  Of course for Harry, Snape's postion of authority could spell trouble!  He won't have Dumbledore there to smooth things over for him anymore.  Perhaps that was another appealing aspect to accepting this position as well!  Harry better be a good little boy!  (As if!)

Aww, isn't Ginny lovely? I am glad that poor Harry has someone he can rely on unequivocally. She was shocked and concerned, yes, but not angry.

It seems that DD is the bad guy in your story and I can't see Harry ever forgiving him. You've made him the master manipulator, only interested in Harry as a means to an end. Or so Harry thinks anyway.

Great chapter. Loved the interaction with Harry and Ginny. I loved that Mrs Weasley cares for Harry as much as ever, even though one of her sons died in the battle of Hogwarts.

    Lesley

    Author's Response:

I was thinking about you when I wrote that chapter Lesley!  I know that you were worried that Ginny wouldn't be a part of Harry's life, and I wanted to dedicate almost a whole chapter to show how strong their feelings are for each other.

Actually Lesley, with the way that Snape is acting towards Harry, Harry's forgivness towards Dumbledore may not be so far-fetched!  Harry might be starting to feel just a little more compassion towards Dumbledore at this point. After what happens in the NEXT chapter, Harry may be running up to DD's office pretty quickly to tell him that he understands why he kept them apart from each other and lied about their relationship.

Oh Harry is like a son to Mrs. Weasley, and the poor dear is just heart-broken.  I hope to have more of the Weasley's in future chapters.  I just haven't gotten that far in my thinking yet!

Thank you so much for taking the time to review MY story, when you are so busy writing your two!  Speaking of which, I'm just hungry for a chappie of Shocking Discovery!  Any plans yet?  Oh, of course Muggle on ffnet, would be nice too!  You already know how much I love YOUR stories!  ;)

Title: Chapter 10: Sensory Overload 22 Jan 2009

I know Harry needs help, but I am so glad he has taken the step to get away from Hogwarts. Why would a grown wizard put up with the garbage he is being forced to if he doesn't have too.

Of course, what will happen to him now is a problem, and one Snape is going to have to address. Or maybe, now Harry isn't constantly under his nose, he will be able to forget their filial connection and get on with his life...the life HArry returned to him.

Don't be too long with the next chapter, Dawn. The suspense won't do my heart any good.

    Lesley~

    Author's Response:

Well, as much as Snape's been an arse to Harry, Harry needs his guidance and expertise to get rid of the Dark Magic.  Harry should not be on his own right now, he's dangerous to himself and others with his lack of impulse control.  Snape needs to get a hold of himself, and help Harry get through this.  Don't worry though, Harry and Minerva's words about Lily being ashamed of him, are finally starting to sink in, so hopefully Sev will finally be there for Harry.

Don't forget though that Snape is basically a very domineering, controlling personality-type, and Harry is very strong-willed as well.  Even if they make progress on their relationship, it will always be a volatile one.  But hey, maybe they can at least learn to co-exist!

As much as Harry wishes right now to forget all about Snape, Severus is the only one who can really help rid him of the Dark Magic, so they have no choice but to reach an understanding.

Don't worry though, there is a light at the end of the rainbow; but the path to the pot of gold will be a rocky one!

Even though Harry is technically of legal age in the Wizarding World, he still is only seventeen, and still needs guidance from those older than him.  Hopefully Sev will be able to eventually give it without lording it over Harry.  But then again, we're talking about Snape here!  :)

Hmm, I once read another story where Harry got very drunk and Sev was worried about alcohol poisoning...can't remember the name of it though. LOL.

Sev seems to be softening a little. Everyone telling him that Lily would be ashamed of him seems to be having an effect.

    Loved Ginny's feistiness...go Ginny, go!

    Great chapter.

    Lesley

    Author's Response:

I was thinking of that as I was writing it!  I can't remember which fic though, because I've read so many where Harry gets pissed, including yours!  Ooh, I just found which one it is, "In Blood Only", what a great story!  Oh, and btw, I thought of the idea of the conversation with Minerva about Severus telling her that Harry had better not call him Dad, after reading your chapter in Shocking Discovery, where Harry struggles about what to call Severus.  I hope you don't mind me using your idea, even if it's not in the same context!

Yeah, I love a feisty Ginny.  I love the WHOLE concept of Ginny and Harry, and plan to make Ginny a major character in this fic!

Severus is finally beginning to see some sense, and yes the guilt is killing him.  What WOULD Lily think about the way that he's been treating his own son! Tsk, tsk, naughty Sevvy!

Oh and when are you going to update "Muggle"; I'm so anxious! Well, I'd be pleased if you updated either one of your great fics!

Title: Chapter 12: Safe Haven 21 Feb 2009
Reviewer: wrappedinharry (Signed)
Excellent chapter! I know I am overdue reading this...I did so after getting the alert for the next chapter which I will be going onto straight away.

Poor Harry. He really is in the grip of something that will destroy him if he did not have caring friends and a--perhaps not so caring, but trying valiantly to overcome his past attitude--father.

The battle to overcome past attitudes on Sev's part was really well written and came across in all of its frustration. Sev to me, was showing all of the irritation of being hard done by--why did Potter's welfare ultimately fall to his lot to keep on track? But at the same time, Harry's welfare has been Severus' lot for a long time now, and he is now having to deal with something potentially more dangerous than anything in the past, because the darkness was outside of Harry before.

All of the admonitions about Lily have really hit home and Sev is reluctantly beginning to feel much more of a responsibility towards the boy and whetehr he likes it or not, his softer emotions are being bought into play. He is still fighting hard to prevent them showing too overtly however.

Harry is just so very volatile...but it seems that he is coming to the realisation that he is a bomb waiting to explode. His feelings of security now that he has Snape on board were well described.

Ginny was brilliant, but she really needs to learn to bite her tongue. She is like a mother bear with her cub. Pity Sev can't see this and relent a little. After all, they are all trying to help Harry, are they not?

    Lesley~

    Author's Response:

Thank you Lesley.  I'm so sorry, that I didn't answer your review before. I only just noticed it.  With all my internet and computer problems, I come on here when I can at work; which is not very often.

I really wanted to show Snape's gradual transformation, and realisation that although in the past it was necessary to deny his relationship to Harry, that it is no longer necessary and actually detrimental to himself and Harry alike.  By opening himself up to the possibilities, he could enrich both their lives.  Harry may be seventeen, but he really still needs someone in his life.  His friends are great, but having a father cannot be equalled.  Harry really needs that in his life.

Severus does feel very guilty about what Lily would have thought about his past treatment of Harry.  Thank goodness that Sev is making an effort now.  However, let's face it, Severus is never going to be a fuzzy warm type of guy, and he's not going to start handing out lollies to his students, but if at the very least their relationship could improve then that is a step in the right direction.

Harry is very volatile, and even Harry feels very out of control, and it's not a nice feeling to feel that you have no control over your temper or your emotions, and to have memory lapses is dangerous.  He realises that even though Snape is not "nice", he is stable and reliable and a someone to have on your side.

I love Ginny's little temper!  But yeah, she DID go a teensy weensy bit overboard, didn't she!  She's just a little spit-fire.  Harry likes a strong woman!  LOL!

Thanks for reviewing Lesley, and I really wish I could leave YOU a proper review but darned ffnet is not working properly!  But it was amazing, and I can't wait for the next chapter!

Title: Chapter 14: Past Regrets 10 Mar 2009
Reviewer: wrappedinharry (Signed)
Yep, Sev is definitely suffering from the malady all parents suffer from...unrelenting worry. It doesn't matter how old your kids are.

Harry is definitely being a hard case, but I suppose tht has something to do with the dark magic inhabiting him.

Slughorn huh? I wonder how he can be more expert in dark arts than Severus or Albus.

    Lesley~

    Author's Response:

Yes, Severus won't admit it out loud, but reality has hit him smack dab in the face.  He has a son, and with fatherhood comes worry and a feeling of responsibility; no matter how hard Sev tries to forget that fact.

Harry perhaps could be a little more responsive to Sev's efforts, but that wouldn't be any fun, would it! Severus deserves a little bit of a hard time for the way that he treated Harry.  Maybe, just maybe, they'll both learn to come to terms with their new relationship, and both make comprimises.

Well, I know that both Severus and Dumbledore are both knowledgeable in Defence, and Severus in the Dark Arts, but Slughorn has had past experience with Horcruxes, and Tom Riddle himself went to Slughorn for advice on how to create one, and Dumbledore did consult with him also, when he wanted to learn more.  Also, Slughorn was Severus' teacher as well, wasn't he?  And Head of House, so perhaps he could offer a new perspective on the matter.  I think that Severus, while a very intelligent knowledgeable man, is too close to the situation to be objective right now, and Albus is merely a portrait, so I think a fresh point of view would be beneficial to Severus and Harry. Besides, maybe Slughorn can act as a referee between stubborn Harry and hard-headed Severus!!

I'm going to read your new story, now that I have the internet, (or sort of) at home.  I'm anxious also for updates on your other two.  I hope also Lesley that things have calmed down a bit for you with regards to the wildfires, and I'm praying for you and your countrymen (and women)!

Title: Chapter 15: Secrets Revealed 21 Mar 2009
Reviewer: wrappedinharry (Signed)
Wow...things are really moving along now. I hope Adams, with or without draco's assistance does not get his meat hooks into Harry again.

Harry is certainly not out to make Severus' job easy, is he. Arguing at every turn. He is smarting from the fact that Severus' reaction to Harry's knowledge of their relationship was far from positive, and now that Sev is making an effort, HArry still cannot forget the slight. Though he is enjoying the pampering to a degree, he does not like being ordered around.

I hope the prolonged affects from Harry's injury is not indicative of something sinister waiting to happen, like a clot becoming dislodged and a bleed occuring in his brain. I wouldn't imagine being smacked across the back of his head would be be beneficial when Severus has had to fight tooth and nail to keep him resting to avoid further injury!

Oh, and Nagini wasn't a basilisk...she was just a massive snake. If she was a basilisk, DEs would have been being petrified all over the place.

Is the story coming to an end if all of those wuestions are going to be answered in the next chapter?

    Lesley

    Author's Response:

Oh wow you do have a point.  That was pretty stupid of Snape to hit Harry in the head. Harry is not the only one who does stupid things!

Yes, Adams is one to watch, that is for sure.  Draco is almost mild compared to Adams.

Harry does hold a certain amount of resentement for Snape still. He can't forget the rejection he felt when he first brought Snape back, but part of his attitude is his mind being controlled by the Dark Magic, and the other part is feeling resentful that Snape thinks that he can just come in after six and a half years, and play father.  Oh no, Harry's definitely not going to let Snape order him around without a fight  Also, Harry is a young man now, not a child, so he's still caught between being on the brink of manhood, and still feeling childish resentment towards Snape for all his misdeeds.  The bottom line is that Harry, is not sure what he feels.  The Dark Magic that is controlling him, is not helping to keep his mind stable either.

Oh, yes you are right. What WAS I thinking!  Of course, the Basilisk was killed in the second book!  You know anytime I have a question about Canon, I'll go to the expert -- YOU.  Actually, I DO have one concerning Kristeh's question about the Elder Wand.  Was it not destroyed or hidden away at the end of DH?  I remember Harry not wanting to keep it. He used it to repair his own wand, and then said he didn't want it.  Am I correct in this?  I will go change that line about Nagini.  Thanks Lesley!

No, story is not ending soon.  I was just joking around.  Maybe it was a poor attempt! :o

I'm looking forward to updates of YOUR stories Lesley.  And how are things in Australia now?  I'm not hearing about anything new on the news, so I hope that that means that things are still calmed down.  I hope so.

Take care Lesley, and thanks for taking the time to review, when you have three of your own brilliant stories that you're writing.

    Dawn
