- Wow. Thanks for such fast updates! This was a good chapter. I particularly liked the part where Snape was possessive of Harry and GLAD that Harry had to live with him because of the slavery spell. That reaction actually seems rather Snapeish; or at least it is how I would imagine Snape loving someone but not yet getting the part that real love is more unselfish than that. He wants Harry to be with him but is not thinking about what Harry would like. I'm expecting, though, that you're going to move his emotional progression on as the story continues. I'm also wondering if Severus is going to hear from Harry that he wishes Severus would have let him die -- what a kicker that will be to Severus!
Author's Response: Thank you! That's how I'm seeing Severus right now, too. 'My' Severus is a good man at heart, but he's certainly not perfect. He is tending to be too possessive and selfish right now, though a lot of that is because he's so inexperienced about personal relationships. He's had very few people that he was close to, and he's insecure because he loves Harry, but he's unsure about how Harry feels about him. He knows that he was awful to Harry, and that Harry doesn't really trust him, and he imagines that Harry would leave him now if he could (and Severus is probably right about that), so that's a big cause of Severus being jealous and possessive...the fear of losing Harry. Not that it's right for him to be that way, and he does need to grow and learn to be more generous with his love. And yes, it will be very hard for Severus when he realises that Harry just wants to die. But we'll see what happens! Thanks again!

- Poor Harry! and poor Severus! I hope Harry will share some of his feelings of inferiority with Severus. Perhaps then Severus can help Harry heal and he will surely understand better why Harry disobeyed.

Author's Response: Thank you so much! And you're exactly right; Severus does know that Harry deals with feelings of inferiority but he doesn't understand yet how playing Quidditch ties in with that. They're going to discuss that in the next chapter and they will come to understand one another better. Thanks again!

- Nice chapter!!!! Even though it was dealing with Harry's fears about the slavery spell, Snape's conversation with him made it a warm, fluffy, delightful read.
Author's Response: Thank you! Yes, Harry still struggles with the spell, more so at times than at others, but Severus is there to help and comfort him.
Harry Potter is badly abused by the Dursleys, but he finds a new way to defend himself. Could this be "the Power the Dark Lord knows not"? Who is going to help Harry? Harry-Snape bonding/mentorship. AU Pre-HBP

Thank you! It was a difficult chapter to write, for me. I started it in April and I finished it a few days ago. In the meanwhile I had no time to write, but I did think a lot about what I wanted to write, so in the end putting everything together was pretty stressful :)
As for poor Snape... well, if Dumbledore asked him, he'd find a way to refuse or feel compelled to do it. But since Dumbledore is busy looking for a new family for Harry... he is the only one who can make sure that he is well protected. Dumbledore outsmarted him and even if Severus knows... he just has to admit that Albus is right. I am proud of that part :)
Unexpected results, after a potions assignment, leave Severus and Harry struggling with reality. A forced stay at Grimmauld Place, that includes Draco, doesn't help matters.

Author's Response: Yes, I think Severus hopes they are father in son, if for no other reason than to help Harry (the one who can defeat You Know Who) out of an impossibly bad situation. - This is an interesting plot. I haven't read a story before where the unincarcerated death eaters got to Harry before Voldemort returned.
The writing is great.

- Another really good chapter.
I do wonder, however, why Snape was going to check on his Slytherins. If the story starts after Harry blows up Aunt Marge, has enough time passed for the beginning of the Hogwarts year? Where's Ron and Hermione?
