2021 Profile Update:

I have been away from P&S for so long (at least 8 years) that a lot of my favorite authors seem to have left, and a lot my favorite stories that were works in progress have been abandoned. But, I recently felt the desire to read some HP fanfic, and I remembered that this was once one of my favorite sites so I'm back! Here's a bit about me:

I'm a former Marine in her early thirties living somewhere in the USA. I read mostly fantasy books, with some science fiction thrown in, and I'll even read the occasional historical fiction, mystery, or horror/thriller, but my favorite genre is fantasy. For the most part, if a book involves dragons, I'm willing to give it a chance, especially if the dragons aren't just dumb beasts. The same applies to books about wolves. The first three HP books are my favorites.

My hobbies include reading (obviously!), horseback riding (when I get the chance), archery (also a rare occurence), flying (when I have the money to pay for my lessons), co-writing a fanfic of my own (when my co-author and I aren't plagued by writers' block), cross-stitching, playing games (computer, console, board games, card games, D&D, or whatever...), and sometimes watching movies. I'd like to be a pilot someday, but I'm not sure if that will ever happen. In the meantime, I have a job that I enjoy almost as much, and I'm looking to buy my first house this year.

Also, while I'm not actively beta-reading anything at the moment, if anyone is in need of a beta reader, I'm definitely interested in at least looking at your story...

Sickly and neglected by his caregivers, little Harry would not have survived were it not for the mysterious dark angel who watched over him, caring for him when he was sick. Harry never knew his name, until he attended Hogwarts and discovered a certain teacher bore a remarkable resemblance to his savior.

Title: Chapter 16: Something Wicked This Way Comes 02 Sep 2008

Oh, wow!! This whole story is amazing, I love how you make sure all the important things happen, but you alter them enough to fit your own story...I don't know if I'd be able to do that! Great job!! In this chapter, I particularly liked Wraith. Snow leopards are my favorite type of big cat, and I think it's cool that you used one for Sev. Are Ron and Hermione ever going to find out before ol' Voldy's defeated? I wouldn't be surprised if Hermione manages to eventually put it together, though I imagine she'd be in denial for a while, and I don't know if she'd tell Ron...I think he'd probably have to see it to believe it...Anyway, please update soon! I can't wait for the next chapter!

    Author's Response:

Thanks, I tried really hard to intertwine the important events in SS with my storyline and it wasn't easy.  I love snow leopards too, and I wanted Sev to have a different Animagus form than the usual bat, panther, and so on.  Ron and Hermione probably won' t find out about Snape's true nature until the end when Quirrell is defeated.  Hermione is beginning to put two and two together and Ron won't believe her if she did tell him, he's such a stubborn thing.

    I've just updated too!

Title: Chapter 18: A Hidden Danger 03 Sep 2008

Wow, 2 updates in one day?? That's awesome! [now for the ranting]
What?!? Evil, evil cliffhanger!! *cough* Sorry, I'm done, now...don't want to make you think I don't like it. ;) Other than the cliffhanger, the chapter was excellent, and I suppose even the cliffhanger isn't really that bad; I've read worse...*whines* But I really don't like cliffies...I mean, I don't mind when there's another chapter, 'cause then it's not really a cliffhanger anymore, I just go on to the next chapter, find out what happens, and chuckle at the poor people who'd read the chapter and then had to wait for the next one. *sighs* Well, this time I'm one of those poor people...I'll have to occupy my time while I wait trying to figure out who, besides Quirrell is trying to kill Harry.

My first thought was Malfoy, but really, that's ridiculous, because he may be a rich, spoiled bully, but I seriously doubt that he could kill anyone, even Harry, at least as an 11-year-old. Chances are, it's either an older student, say 6th or 7th year, probably one whose parents were followers of Voldy...or it could be another teacher, but I really don't know who. Unless you're going to bring Pettigrew in already...That would make sense, I guess, especially if you're not going to continue this after Harry's first year (though I really hope you do!). Anyway, those are my ideas...Thanks for the update, and please, update again soon!!

Author's Response: Yes, do think about it.  Quirrell is the obvious one, but I've thrown another person in there as well, and you're right, it isn't Malfoy.  And it's not Peter either, he's still hiding out in rat form, but that was a good guess.  I will reveal it in a few chapters and I hope it's a surprise!  I shall be updating again soon . . .hopefully by tonight.

After a series of tests to discover why Harry's magic has become erratic, a secret is revealed, one hidden for over fifteen years. But not all secrets disappear without consequence, leaving Severus to learn that potions cannot heal everything.

Title: Chapter 12: Fight or Flight 26 Aug 2009
Reviewer: SnowStalker (Signed)
Wonderful story! I was going to leave a review at the end of the last chapter when I read it a couple days ago (or maybe it was yesterday morning...it was shortly after chapter 11 was added), and I'd written a nice, long review, and then my computer locked down and I had to re-boot and...*sighs* by the time I got it back up, I was too frustrated to try to rewrite all that. Sorry, I know authors like getting reviews...but I'm going to try that long review again! ;)

I really like the way you've written Sev and Harry. The change from mutual hatred to caring and trust happens quickly, but it's well done and believable. The cancer diagnosis took me completely by surprise. Harry's analogy of cancer being like his body's version of ol' Moldy Voldy and his minions was very creative, and fitting! Oh, Dumbledore's attitude towards Harry, and the leukemia, is rather disturbing...I know he doesn't know a lot about cancer, but still...I hope he pulls his head out of his posterier soon...Severus taking it upon himself to look at Harry's medical file to figure out what's wrong was...sweet, in a Snape-ish sort of way. And the way he keeps trying to justify what he's doing, how his perception of Harry is changing (but he's trying to deny that it is), is priceless. I especially like this line from this chapter: "Should he just wave the white flag of surrender concerning Harry now and get it over with?" When I read that, I found myself nodding emphatically and saying, "Yes, you might as well go ahead and give it up as a lost cause. We all know you're going soft...at least where Harry's concerned..." *snickers* I don't imagine he's appreciate that comment, but it's true! Random question that isn't even really relevant (I'm just curious): How did Severus get a prescription for Vicodin?! *grins* When I read what the pills were (loved the scene with him searching all over the place for them! Go cats!!), and could help but laugh, which is probably not the reaction you were looking for, but I've watched the TV show "House" too much to not find any reference to Vicodin in stories amusing. (If you don't know what "House" is, let me know, and I'll be glad to tell you all about it!)
I was really thrown by Sev's mother, though...well, no, not his mother, but his family in general. It didn't confuse me that his mother has a different name (I like the name "Aurora," by the way), though I found it a tad odd that he called her by her name, instead of "Mother", but considering she's basically a hippie, it doesn't surprise me that it makes her feel old to be called "Mother". Making Tobias Snape and Eileen Prince Sev's aunt and uncle was a nice twist; I rather liked it! All in all, I rather like Aurora Prince. I hope we'll get to see more of her. But, I have a few questions...if you're planning on answering any of them later, then I'll be glad to wait for them to come into the story...Who is Sev's father, and will we get to meet him? Did Tobias have a brother who married Aurora? Or is there another reason why Aurora called Severus "Prince" (I like his middle names, by the way!), but he goes by "Snape"? I am right in assuming that Aurora and Eileen are sisters, aren't I? And speaking of sisters, will we get to meet (or at least find out more about) this mysterious sister that Snape has?
It doesn't surprise me at all that Hermione has a Slytherin side, or that she and Ron would be so persistent in finding out what's wrong with Harry. They really do need to calm down, though...Threatening Severus Snape is more likely to get them banned from the dungeons than it is to get them in to see Harry. I like that Harry is seeking Severus for safety (he ran to the dungeons, and his room, but I think it's Snape that he's associating with safety, and he knows that, even if Sev isn't there at that exact moment, he'll always return there). With all that he's going through, and the fact that Snape is helping him so much, and is the only one who hasn't panicked (outwardly) even once, it makes sense that Harry's starting to feel the most safe around him.
I really liked the shopping scene...I can see Harry not being comfortable with Snape paying for everything for him, and arguing a bit, but knowing that it was Snape's mother's idea (command, really) makes it a bit harder to argue...
So, I was reading this chapter, and got to the part where Harry told Severus that Ron and Hermione know about his cancer, and Sev was shocked and furious, and I thought, "Wait...doesn't he already know that they know?" So, I went back and checked, and found that scene, and read through it, found no mention of leukemia or cancer, and thought, "Huh...guess I remembered wrong...I could have sworn they told Snape they knew about Harry having cancer...." Then I scrolled back up to the top of the chapter, and noticed the note you left about the chaper being revised, and thought, "Oh, good! I my memory's still intact! ...mostly..." I'm glad the continuity error has been fixed, but I'm also glad you left a note about the revision, otherwise I'd be left wondering if I'm loosing what's left of my mind! ;) I think you did a great job with all the emotions and everything. It's nice that Harry got to fly, especially after his near breakdown, but I would have liked to have a snippet from Harry's point of view...maybe you can have him remember back to it, at some point? If it'll fit into the story...Oh, one last thing: I love Flurry! You've got her feline antics down pat! I can only assume that you've owned at least one cat at some point...Though I do have a question...I seem to remember it mentioning somewhere in one of the chapters (I don't remember which one, or I'd go look it up), that Sev has had Flurry for several years, but she's referred to as a kitten...is that another continuity error, or is there a reason that hasn't been explained, yet?

*whew* I think I'll try to review after every chapter from now on, so the reviews aren't quite so overwhelming (for you or me)! Thanks for the great story! I'm off to read the next chapter, now! (Oh, and I apologize if my review rambles a bit...that tends to happen when I write, which is why I don't write stories very often).

    Author's Response:

Okay where to begin. LoL. Don't worry, I love long reviews with plenty of speculation.

I'm happy to hear you like the way I've written Harry and Sev's relationship and that I took you by surprise. ;) Harry's analogy of cancer came from a light bulb turning on moment when I was revising that chapter. I must say I'm quite proud of it myself. I also love that you're picking out line and telling me which ones you love. It helps me know what you like.

As for Sev's Vicodin prescription with his training I'm sure he has a few contacts in the medical field Muggle and wizarding that he was able to get the prescription from. Since I'm also a "House" watcher, I totally get when you'd be amused with Vicodin. Did you know there's a short story out there that's a crossover with Sev ending up as House's patient? It was very amusing.

The mystery around Sev's family will have to wait a bit, but I promise you'll get your answers eventually. Good speculation, but we'll see how much of it is accurate later. Rest assured, we'll get to meet Snape's mysterious sister eventually also.

Ron and Hermione really do need to calm down, but they're acting pretty much like typical teenagers. I'm glad you picked up on why Harry is feeling so safe around Severus, though I'm not sure Harry realizes it quite yet.

The shopping scene was fun to right after I sorta figured out the British clothing sizes. Yes, it being Aurora's command did make it harder to argue and saved each of them some breath.

You're not crazy! Yay! I totally thought I had written the end of chapter ten to be ambiguous. I have no idea what I was thinking. As for Harry's POV during flying, as a writer I hate writing like a paragraph or two in one person's POV before switching, but I might have Harry reference that flight later on. We'll see where Harry takes me.

Flurry is one awesome cat, isn't she? Yes, I do own a cat, a very psychotic one named Roxie that turns pens, bottle caps, balled up paper, etc into toys on a regular basis only for them to be batted under a piece of furniture until Mom decides to rearrange and then it's like finding a treasure trove.

Another great chapter! The nightmare scene was sad, I'm glad Sev was able to help Harry. *does a happy little jig* You must have read my mind! You answered my question about Flurry before I even asked it! I liked the story about Flurry. *grins* And Severus can call Harry a brat all he wants, but I heard the affection in his voice...he may try to hide it, but he's not fooling me! And Severus telling Harry to call him by his given name is a nice touch, too. I was wondering when that was going to happen....I'll admit, I'm a little anxious about Harry's procedure, myself. Of course, I know about cancer, and chemo, and whatnot, but I've never really thought about how the drugs are administered (I guess I always assumed it was done by IV), so I don't know very much about the Hickman. I hope this isn't too personal a question, but do you have some kind of experience with it, or have you just done research on it?

On the note of being your Continuity Fairy, I'd like to apply for the position, if it's still available when you read this. I'll send you an email with more info. Well, here's one more review for P&S! Great chapter! Can't wait for the next update!!

    Author's Response:

Thanks again! I totally must've used Legilimens on you. ;) I'm happy to hear you heard Snape's affection in his voice like you were meant to.

Doctors can use IV lines to administer chemo, but it's bad on the veins and they eventually collapse is what I understand. Plus, it's a great way not to need a gazillion needle stabs. I'm fortunate enough to not have experience with cancer, but I tend to be a research junky when I need to be.

Yay! Excellent chapter, of course! I just wanted to be the first to post a review! Especially since FF beat us...*sighs* It's horrible...

Can't wait for the next chapter!

Author's Response: :) You were the first review.

Title: Chapter 15: Waking Nightmares 04 Sep 2009
Reviewer: SnowStalker (Signed)
*cries* Poor Harry! He needs a hug! (And so does Sev! I can't imagine it's very easy for him, either!) I can totally see Harry, in a last-ditch attempt to avoid facing cancer, wanting to believe that it's all a trick of Voldy's. At least he knows to expect from Voldemort.

The whole comfort scene was amazing! I'm really glad he's starting to recognize that he feels safe around Sev. I think it'll take a while, though, before he fully believes that Snape won't leave him. He's spent his entire life without an adult that he could rely on for everything, and now that he has one, it's going to take some time for it to completely sink in that Severus is there to stay.

Yet another wonderful chapter! I'm sorry I wasn't around the other night. I'll be sending you an email to explain.

    Author's Response:

Thanks! It'll take a while before he fully believes Sev won't leave him. He'll need to be reminded quite a few times.

Title: Chapter 16: We vs. You 10 Sep 2009
Reviewer: SnowStalker (Signed)
Yay! Another wonderful chapter! I'm glad Harry took the news that he'd already had one injection so well. I mean, yeah, he was upset at first, but really, who wouldn't be? But I'm glad he listened to Sev's explaination, and that it satisfied him.

So, we'll get to see more of Flurry next chapter? I can't wait! Here's a smile for you! :D

    Author's Response:

Thanks! Harry's driven by pain at the moment, so I think Sev's explanation hit the chord that he avoid a potentially painful procedure. Plus, he's in a delicate state emotionally at the moment and isn't up for a fight or argument.

Yes, we'll definitely see more of Flurry next chapter. *smiles* I got it. =)

Title: Chapter 17: A Flurry of Precautions 13 Sep 2009

    Another awesome chapter, of course!

Yay, football! Go Cowboys! :D That would be blue and white...oh, dear...you know what I just realized? My team has the same colors as my high school...That's a little scary...and it's even more scary that I only just noticed it...

*puppy-dog eyes* Am I #200?? Although I suppose it's really not fair of me...oh, well! Can't wait for the next chapter!

    Author's Response:

Thanks. That's scary that you just noticed that.

You're number 191. Close, but not quite.

Cauldron’s bubbled. Potions simmered. And Snape was yelling at Neville again. Just another ordinary day in Potions class, or so they all thought. When a potion reveals something out of the ordinary, Harry’s life is changed forever, and not in a positive way. Was it so unreasonable to ask that he be allowed to make it through sixth year like a normal teenager?

Title: Chapter 15: Durmstrang Institute for the Magically Gifted 10 Jan 2014
Reviewer: SnowStalker (Signed)
Overall I have enjoyed this story. It's definitely different, and like Harry's and Draco's transfer to Durmstrang, different if good.

However, I'm extremely disappointed. I started reading this story back when it was new-ish and being regularly updated. I burned myself out on fanfiction and on top of that life got hectic for a couple years. I recently came back, and started going through my old "Tracked" fics, and saw that this one had apparently been completed since I last read it. So I started over, only to find out that it actually has not. If you've abandoned this tale, you should make a note, so that people won't expect the story to be finished when they go to read it. Or at least change its status to incomplete.

(By the way, the confusion is why I gave it a 7 instead of an 8 or 9).
