Hmmm, Snape-as-stallion. Awesome, seriously. I can see all kinds of angsty goodness on the way as Harry confides in his new friend and Severus sees the real Harry. And oh, the potential for h/c! I'll put in an early vote for hurt!Severus in stallion form, rescued/nursed by Harry. :)
Author's Response: Oh yes there is a lot of potential for an angsty scene between them. Lots and lots. You can see another few chapters now that I've posted.

Just wanted to let you know how much I'm enjoying your story. I love stories that show how much care Snape puts into looking after his snakes and how Harry benefits just from the way ordinary Slytherins are treated.
You're doing a great job with Harry's pov where he's still wary of Snape but starting to see that Snape will in fact be looking out for him and I'm really enjoying that. I can easily see this sliding gradually into his really trusting the man. Also, I'm looking forward to Snape's keen eye noticing that Harry's not the arrogant spoiled brat he's always assumed.
I have to say that so far all your characters feel so close to canon - and yet a step sideways, if that makes any sense. They're really reacting and behaving and speaking very much as in canon, and yet you're giving us that little bit extra underneath that's letting this go in the direction that canon never did. Wonderful job. I'm really looking forward to more of this. Hope your muse is going to be a bit easier on you in future, coz this is just hitting all my mentor!Snape buttons. :)
Author's Response: Thanks for your review! Yes, I definitely see Snape as a dedicated Head of House. I was happy to read that you found my characters close to canon - it's always my aim to achieve that and I always wonder if I succeeded. About my muse - yes, I hope so, too!

Hmmm, after the last chapter when the Slytherins seemed to be much fairer and even-handed than a Gryffindor might expect, this seems like quite a change. I'll assume that Snape didn't like his Slytherins not supporting their housemate, not least because of the house division being aired in the potions class. I'm also guessing that Draco's punishment was more physical than Harry realises?
Not sure how Snape's going to manage to persuade Harry to be more 'cunning'. As far as Harry's concerned he's minding his own business and standing up for his friends while the Slytherins aren't showing him any house loyalty. Looking forward to the meeting with Snape, but also the next lesson if Harry does work next to Neville. Good stuff again. :)
Author's Response: Your guess about Draco's punishment is correct. As for the meeting with Snape, I'm looking forward to it too, so I'll try not to take too long before I update! Thanks for your detailed review!

Excellent chapter. This is exactly how I imagine Snape is with his Slytherins. Poor Harry, though, because Snape's still got completely the wrong impression of how Harry is treated by his relatives. I'm really looking forward to the light eventually dawning that Harry is nothing like Snape believes. Not quite sure how that's going to happen, with Harry not trusting Snape to believe him or support him at all. Stalemate! :(
Harry-angst galore. Anticipating at least some Severus-angst when he finds out that Harry's still doing his best despite being isolated from his friends and with no support from family or House. Can't wait to see what happens with Harry's remedial potions lessons, especially since he won't have Malfoy distracting or sabotaging him. :)

Great to see the next chapter on this. Nice touch that Harry is starting to realise it isn't all Snape's fault, and that he could have been paying more attention as well. Sounds like he might discover Potions is fun when you put some work into it, though that probably won't go down well with Ron. And throwing the Maurauders' Map into the mix ... *shakes head* evil, pure evil. :)
Glad to see you're pushing on with this - it's far too good to let lie. Looking forward to Harry's next tutoring session with Snape, though it's obviously going to take a long time for him to open up and at the moment Snape doesn't seem to be looking that closely. I wonder if it's going to require some kind of clue for him to get involved.

Poor Harry, nothing's going his way at the moment, is it? Except of course that he's managed to avoid both Sirus Black and the Dementors, though he doesn't know that, of course.
I think it's going to have to be up to Severus to get a clue as poor old Harry seems to be swimming against the tide with the Slytherins. Perhaps Severus will decide it's time for a home visit ... ;)
Great stuff, still really enjoying the story.
Author's Response: I'm glad you're still enjoying it. You're right, Harry's having a hard time at the moment, we'll see if it will get better... Thanks for reviewing!

Wow. Just ... wow. That is so powerful and so intense. It's just wrong enough to be exactly right. I love that Harry understands, where Dumbledore doesn't try to understand, he just *does*. And that Severus can cope that Harry isn't exactly right, because he does understand and he tries to be as right as he can be.
I so want to see how Severus does with the muggle healers and yet... it's hard to beat something as perfect as this. Thank you.

Every chapter I love this story just a little bit more. I have no idea how you manage to sustain the level of intensity and yet the pacing is perfect. I suspect it's all down to that wonderfully calm and dry narrative voice.
I know exactly why Dumbledore has to lie to Severus and yet I still hate him for it. I know Harry's almost got it and I suspect once he talks to Hermione they'll both understand. But Erasmus is going to figure out something soon, and given his propensity for jumping to conclusions, I can't wait to see how that goes.
When Severus Snape is left in charge of Hogwarts over the Christmas break, he is less than pleased to discover Harry will be one of his charges. Events force him to face that Mr. Potter may not be quite what he has assumed all these years.

Wow, excellent story. I love the way you've had Severus's opinions of Harry change gradually and not just because he feels sorry for him, but also because he's starting to see evidence he wasn't aware of before. And Harry having an innate talent for potions, that is in fact getting in his way, is a wonderful idea. After all, he had to have inherited something from his mum other than his eyes! ;)
Wonderful angsty stuff and great reactions from Severus. I liked that you had him take a calming draught as well as offering one to Harry and he's acknowledging his own mistakes as well. Really looking forward to more of this story. Thank you!
