Harry receives a very special gift on his 16th birthday that leads him to the help he needs...Snape is finding respite from his growing pressures and discovers one in need of help. Despite himself, he finds he CAN grow close to another living being. Only..."everything would've been so much simpler if it'd actually been a cat"...

I really do not understand Harry being so conciliatory towards Remus. I think I feel more like Severus is in the right in his thoughts for both Loki and Remus.

I tend to write a review but I had to say something here. You've written the most detailed, aggravating (in a good way) adoption process I have ever come across in all the Severitus stories I read. A truly beautiful job. Thank you!
When Harry runs away from the Dursleys at the start of 3rd year, he is captured by Death Eaters and nearly killed, resulting in the loss of his magic. Only one man can help him now, Severus Snape, who has just discovered a shocking revelation . . . Harry is his son! Follow Harry and Severus as they attempt to build a relationship, resolve past conflicts, and heal Harry from the trauma he has endured.

It's a good ending but I don't like that Dumbledore believes he orchestrated all of this.

Wow! This is a superb and impressive story. Dumbledore irritated me at first, but in this last chapter, his smug, know-everything smile just totally unnerved me. I'm off to read the sequel.
Author's Response: Thanks and I hope you like the sequel.
Sequel to Hide Yourself Away! Please read or skim that first before you read this one, or else you’ll be quite lost. Harry and Severus return to Hogwarts to finish out the third year, and encounter more problems, in the form of an escaped convict and a meddlesome Headmaster, but are aided by new and old friends to discover a truth that was hidden away.

Very impressive story. I love seeing Harry having a normal life surrounded by adults that love him and can rein him in. You write very well. I enjoyed this for the last three days.
Author's Response: Thanks, I too like writing Harry with a real family. If you liked this one, you could also read the little one-shot that goes along with it, Depression Cure, which I wrote in response to a challenge by Elise Malfoy. Or you could read my mega novel Heir To Prince Manor, which features a reformed Petunia, Dudley, and Draco Malfoy among other things. Or if you'd like to read something totally different, there's my other series, Never Again, featuring a six-year-old Harry and Potions Master Healer Severus and Tobias Snape in a very different alternate universe.

I think I may have started to read this awhile back, but didn't get round to finishing it. This is a very unique take on the AU HP story. You did a wonderful job with your characters. There's still a good dose of snark in Snape that even though he is quite OOC, he still feels like Snape. Harry is just wonderful and I absolutely enjoyed Tobias. He seemed so much like my own father (who also dealt with alcoholism) that it was both eerie and comforting.
Author's Response: I did post the first part of this on FF.net, or rather DaughterofAres did before I had an account, but something happened and she stopped posting and when i tried to email her several times, I got no answer. I hope nothing went wrong, although it could just be something like her computer crashing and she needed to get a new one, she did mention to me way back in August that she was having trouble with it. I'm glad you like my universe, it was a shot in the dark, and I wanted to take all the HP characters down a different path, well for some of them. Tobias's character is based a lot on my brother-in-law who struggled with alcoholism for over twenty years before finally going sober for good and he is now a charter mentor for AA. I asked him a lot of questions about what an alcoholic remembered and how they reacted under the influence. he provided me with a great deal of insight for crafting a believable version of Tobias. Sev's character should always have some sarcasm in it, though I think that if given a chance, and a good dose of love and people who care about him, he could be a most loyal and loving father, husband, and friend. He never got the chance in the books, which was why i think he turned so very bitter and angry. But in my universe, he is given the chance and hence is a better Severus Snape. There's more with Tobias in the sequel Growing Pains.

I do hope there is a sequel to this story. It was truly well done and fantastic. I really want to know what happens when Hermione finds out who has a crush on her. lol
Author's Response: Thanks. There is sure to be some fun when that happens, especially the look on on's face, LOL!
A short bittersweet story about an unexpected gift that has somehow overgrown into a multichaptered fic. AU.

Very good story. I really liked how smooth the transition was from Harry not knowing to finding out.
Author's Response: Thank you very much, Mila
When a portal of sorts opens beneath Harry's feet, he finds himself in a place of undetermined location, with a person he loathes. Where are they? What happened to get them there? And why wont Harry's wand work? Magic, and sometimes lack thereof can form unbreakable bonds... When Magic Fails, how will a wizard survive? Shadowland... where Wizards have to count on each other.
