What if Harry came across Slytherin’s monster before the diary incident… and asked it to help him deal with his least favorite teacher?

I love this! I always hated the violent passing of the basilisk. They are such noble creatures.
Rather than allowing Harry to stay at Diagon Alley after he blew up Aunt Marge, the Ministry sends Harry back to the Dursleys. Harry returns to school after a terrible summer, to find that he's not the only one with this kind of secret. A student has been killed by his family. New screening measures are put into place by the Ministry: Every student must be given a medical exam and interview to look for child abuse. With Dumbledore facing an inquiry, Snape is entrusted with the task of making sure EVERYONE receives one.

Wow! This chapter was really impressive! I could really see the conversation between Mrs. Cook, and Severus. I recall over-hearing little chats like that from my own kitchen when I was a child. :)
Very much a superb story so far. Keep going. The updates are coming along at a nice pace.

I feel like I want to cry. Not because I am sad but because I am so emotionally wrung out by your tale. You have done such a beautiful job. You portrayed a little boy who wanted to be normal and who was searching for that one adult he could trust above all others; achingly slow but it could not have gone faster.
I am in love with Severus, Harry, Snuffles, and even Remus. I'm still a bit iffy on Sirius but the way you matured him was very well done.
This is a definite favourite.
Thank you!
This is a response to a challenge. Snape is asked by Dumbledore to help him move the mirror of Erised to a new location, but when Snape looks in the mirror he sees himself, Lily and you guessed it....Harry Potter.

Oooh do I wish there was more to this. It was a clever, short story and you did a wonderful job with it.
When he can no longer stand the half-truths and whole lies, Harry seeks out the truth in an epic journey that will change his outlook on life forever. “Tell me… tell me please.”

This is wonderful! I do wish Harry ended up with Severus but I see the way your Severus was in this story and so where Harry ended up worked well.
You really are a terrific writer and I am so pleased that you are sharing your talent, with us, your hungry readers.
Author's Response: Thanks again for your feedback etherian. I definitely understand your longing for Harry to live with Snape, haha. It seems all my other stories go that way, so I felt I needed to do something different in this case. It's nice to hear you understand the choice - although yes, I quite agree that one cannot help but long for Snape to just keep Harry! Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts, and kindness. It's a pleasure to know that my stories bring joy to others - and to know I've also given you some happiness by posting my work is the cherry on top of the fun that is writing! All the best, Whitetail.

Usually I review at the end but I just wanted to mention that I am rather on pins and needles here.
Author's Response: Hi etherian! Thanks so much for leaving a review! I do still read new ones despite not actively adding stories to the site these days. It always makes my day to hear from new readers! - Cheers, Whitetail.
"Perhaps a man with a prerogative to redeem himself in the memory of the mother would, in turn, give comfort to a child so justifiably desperate for it,” Dumbledore grinned at the other man’s unbidden expression of shock. “But when said like that, it hardly encompasses the depth of emotion I would expect when I see the person in question has cradled Harry Potter to sleep after a nightmare.” “I-I...” Severus scowled. “I was not cradling him.”

This chapter is chilling, haunting. I lived in a small, rural, mid-west town where demon possession was more believed than mental illness. A girl the same age as myself was fighting deep depression, suicidal thoughts, and an eating disorder. Her parents believed their daughter was being attacked by a demon. The church, when asked, referred the parents to a reputable child psychologist for depression. The parents, of course, did not believe the church. They found an exorcist who claimed to once be a priest. A later investigation showed that the man never had been a priest. The girl was exorcised - with insults and being beaten by fists and feet. Although the girl was rescued she died of extreme bruising to her abdomen and internal bleeding. The girl was the first child this exorcist killed; he had brutalised nearly 7 other children while the parents watched.
This chapter is brutal but hardly impossible. You did a very good job. I wept for little Harry who is so charming and sweet... and innocent.

I've read this before so this is my second time reading. You did such a beautiful job. The characters were always spot-on, and the children were wonderful. Even Hermione, so insufferable, at first, I grew to like her. Your portrayed Hermione not so much as a Muggleborn that wanted to fit in with witches and wizards but as a lonely child who simply wanted friends.
Brava!
